NPR's quiz.  Last weekend.  Solution to come next Sunday I think.  The tree has got to be beach (beech).  The beginning is more difficult.

Q: This is a phonetic challenge in four parts. First, say a letter of the alphabet out loud -- like B, C, or L. Then name something you might carry around in your pocket. Say it twice. Finally, name a variety of tree. Say these four things in order, and phonetically they'll name a nice place in the United States to vacation. What is it?

Easy.  Popped right into my head.

    Waikiki Beach

    "Y" "Key Key" "Beach"

    ??

Johnny, tell me what I just won.🤣

@BringBackFergyi have one for you similar to the cow

three guests check into a hotel room. the guy at the counter says the room is $30 so they each pull out a ten and head up. Couple minutes later the guy realizes the room is at discount for only $25 so he gives one of the room cleaners 5 $1 bills and tells him to go up and reimburse them. On the way up the room cleaner decides to keep $2 and when he gets up to the room gives each guest a dollar back. So he steals $2 but each of the guests is happy for the discount.

now they each get a $1 discount on their $10 for $9. There are 3 guests for $27 and the room cleaner pocketed $2. where did the last dollar go

Don't know the official reason... But it's a one-way mathematical equation.  33.33 gets buried... Kinda like the extra $10 above.

    33.33 is split between them.

You are getting hung up on the fact that its the same cow being purchased......

If you bought a cow for 60 and sold it for 70, then bought a different cow for 80 and sold it for 90, the profit would be 20 bucks....therefore why would it be different if it was the same cow?? You are getting the full purchase price plus an additional ten dollars back on the second sale....10+10=20.

Yeah....BUT it's one business entity, right?

Where's the extra $10 coming from, the same company books I assume?

$60 made $10, re-bought for $80... What coffers is that extra $10 coming from?

Not enough information.  He spent a total of $140 on purchasing the cow and collected a total of $160 so they are trying to trick you into saying $20 but how long did he own the cow?   It doesn’t say.  He had to feed it, take it to the vet, buy a shovel to clean the poop, etc.  He also may have sold a bunch of milk or maybe people paid him to take pictures with the cow.  That’s before we get into permits, fees, taxes, pro-rated barn space, and opportunity cost because the same money could have been used to by chickens.  Also he may have had to buy insurance on the cow in case someone mutilated it in an effort to convince morons that aliens actually exist.  This whole thing is a big trick.  Don’t fall for it.

He actually spent $150 of his own money.

    See above.

    Abbey Road

    The White Album

2 of my fav's and arguably best records they did. But how do you really judge greatness. It's ALL Genius. It boils down to what flavor you liked best.

Fav Beatles song is a really hard choice. I Love Paperback Writer. one of their more light hearted songs but I just have always liked it.

It was a #1 too... Single though... Always had a soft spot for:

Do is it $10 or $20?

Not sure.  They say it's $20... He kicks in $140 on $160 sales... BUT the dude has to kick in $10 more of his own to make $80 sale... He really spent $150 & made $160.

Damn it Jim! I am just lock & dam operator... Mike's the damn accountant & he says $10 too! 😉

Next thing you'll want me to do is watch river gauges for campers in TexASS.😜

    Twenty bucks.

    Yeah, as 2 separate sales.

BUT I can see how he made only $10.  He had to throw in $10 more of his own money to make meet the $80 sale... Wiping out his $10 profit previously.  In the end he's really only $10 richer....

    No??

It kind of depends on where my kids end up living, tbh.  I’d like to be within striking range of both of them if possible.  My wife and I have talked about selling our home and buying a lake house somewhere in the northeast.  Perhaps a return to the finger lakes region.  I like the idea of moving south to get away from the cold and snow.  We’ll see.  I still have have ~20 years to work before I can retire with a full state pension/benefits.  😂

    👍

My son might be moving to Bethel (Sunday River), Maine from Valparaiso, Indiana... This might be a game changer for us, especially with daughter in NE/Mid-Atlantic...

Anyone wearing Golashes going through the airport should be arrested immediately. Especially if they're also wearing the yellow, Gorton fisherman raincoat.

And while I'm at it.....anyone wearing a Sabres jersey in the airport claiming they're traveling to a game, is lying, and should be arrested immediately.

    You forgot the cavity check.

Arrested immediately & given a full cavity check.  That'll teach 'em to be Sabres fans in public!

Funny you ask/mention this.  A former boss and friend bought some property down in very South Jersey by the shore.  I think he’s transitioning toward retiring/living down there,

But then he asked me to down there as well.  Which I’m just like retired life must be nice.  Lol.  It’s like over 2 hours from where I live.

    Cape May is very nice...

    What a vicious circle!😉

Which rightly so, gives me a bigger say in the matter...
