Please remind me of the times Singletary lost yardage as a rusher.

I'd rather analyze how he did in short yardage situations but the Bills didn't give him the ball in those situations, trusting Josh or Gore to handle them. Besides, not losing yardage is not exactly what you are looking for. In my limited understanding of the game, the goal is to gain yards, not avoid losing them. Devin is awesome at that in many situations but. 4th and 1 guy he is not. Call me crazy but we already have a small, quick guy, why do we need two? Is it so awful to have a guy who can bull over a few defenders? I have more than one kind of knife in the drawer, you want nothing but steak knives?

Here is my thinking, will young people really put up with that? Will he really bring in the national guard and maintain it with military policing? Will the country as a whole really stand for millions of lives being ruined financially? And a depression that will take years to claw out of? Because, in that scenario, with that timeline, that is what happens. I don’t see people under 50 who have around a 99.8% survivability rate doing that. I’m also not sure Cuomo will order troops to maintain that stay at home order at all costs. To include ticketing (people who already have nothing at that point) or arresting (and putting people in overcrowded jails).

Call me an optimist but I think that young people are not going to band together to fight for the right to kill their grandparents. We don't have a choice on the economics. Whether its because we do nothing and people die left and right or we shut down for 9 months, there is going to be an economic disaster. As my not very bright uncle used to say, that horse has left the station and the train is out of the barn.

Here is some fun math. If you have the "normal" flu, you will infect 1.3 to 1.4 people. Ten layers of that means you infect 14 people. If you have this virus, you will infect 3-4 people. Ten layers later, you will have infected 59,000 people.

The 1918 Pandemic had three waves over 18 months.......likely to be the  case today as well.  Might get a 2021 season.   There is a book on the WWI Spanish flu which I read a few years ago.  More US solders were killed by the flu than by the German Army.  Maybe modern medicine and methods can cut the deaths, but until herd immunity kicks in, everybody is at risk.  HERD immunity means more than say 85% of people have had it, and can't transmit it.  What is going on is much worse than the public in general perceives.

It is unclear as to whether or not people who recover from this virus will be immune to reinfection and if so, how long that immunity will last. The seasonal corona viruses which make up 10-30% of common colds reinfect people over and over again despite their exposure to them since childhood.

The defense needed to be made whole after losing 2 big contributors. The offense needed a #1 receiver and a complimentary back to Motor. If they get depth at receiver, particularly a red zone big target, in the draft and a swing Offensive tackle, this club is the class of the division . A running back is a definite.

I would add TE. Knox dropped a lot of passes last year and was very shaky at pass pro. Kroft's resume is a black hole for two years running. There is no better way to help a young QB out than a TE who gets open, reliably makes tough catches and hits on his blocks against blitz happy defenses. I think/hope they find a solid TE somewhere in the draft. It is a key position in the modern game, all the best teams have a standout at TE.

We also lost much more on the defensive side 3 major contributors, Phillips, Lawson, and Alexander.  Who'd we lose on offense? Frank Gore who I'm sure we could have back if we wanted.  The biggest hole we had on offense was at WR which we did address. You have nine offensive lineman from last year all under contract.  The only place where I could see a  FA helping would be a running back, but even there, maybe the plan is for Yeldon to be the #2, plus signed Jones though mainly for ST  and who knows about (can't think of his name) the rugby player.

Can't recall was S Perry a FA or is he signed?

Sounds good but I don't agree that a FA TE wouldn't help. And having guys under contract does not mean we don't need to improve the OL.

  6. 9 minutes ago, Hampton Josh fan said:

D-line had to be addressed because of the two defections. Remember that defense overcame offensive shortcomings with JA development. The O-line was fortified with resigning Spain, Lawaddle, Long etc. Keeping continuity is critical with offensive line play. The TE position was addressed with resigning Kroft. This guy has to better if healthy. The running back will be a draft need or maybe a big FA signing to come.

Makes sense but resigning guys doesn't make you better, it keeps you from getting worse. It was the offense, not the defense that needed the most help and so far, Diggs is really the only change on offense. It will have to be a very good draft and our first pick isn't until late in the first round. There are some good backs that will be there and there are some very interesting WR's that will be around so hopefully, the offense will get what it needs.

  7. I am a little concerned that we have spent so much attention on the defense and, beyond Diggs, left the offense without badly needed reinforcements. The defense was solid last year, the offense, not so much. Where is the investment in the offense beyond Diggs? Yeah, we re-signed a guard and brought on a top notch deep threat and separation specialist at WR but the offense is still behind the defense talent-wise. I guess that will have to happen in the draft.

This is what's wrong with the NFL.  Paying the highest salary because they're "next" but they're not the best at their position.

I'm not sure it is "wrong" but if it is, all owners have to do is to not make the offer. No one is being forced to sign these contracts.

The QB and his agents are simply getting what the market will bear.

And really, does the "Jerry Jones is an idiot" theory really need further proof? It is an established theorem at this point.

I hope epenesa isn’t there so we don’t take him.  Reminds me of shaq.  Solid, yet unspectacular.  I’d prefer drafting someone other than him.

I think he’s lucky the draft is weak in top end edge pass rushers minus young. Not much else beside Chaisson and he’s not really even regarded that high.

Not sure I agree but then again, if he is there at 22 then the league consensus is that he is nothing to get excited about.

Pretty much a certainty.  So, the fact that they invested time to talk to them suggests the notion of a trade up is at least on the table.  I don't personally think that's going to happen, but the Bills seem to have not ruled it out.  I suppose it could be a smoke screen, but I don't think the Bills have done a lot of that since Buddy Nix was telling anybody who listened that Cordy Glenn was a guard.

Due diligence is all it is. They would look pretty stupid if they didn't look at these guys closely if somehow one of them dropped within striking distance, say 16 or 17-ish and they had to improvise at the last minute because they hadn't done their homework.

I like Tee Higgins. Some might say he’s not even the best WR on Clemsons roster. He did get dinged up from time to time...

My assumption is he will measure 6’4” 210, run a high 4.4, maybe 4.5. I doubt his 3 cone will be sub 7. Vert probably around 35-36.... Career at Clemson was roughly 130 receptions 2400 yds. Not bad for just over 2 years.

I like Mims and Jefferson better. Mims ran 4.38, fastest 3 cone in the combine with a ridiculous 6.66. 38” vert. Career stats nearly 200 receptions and 3000 yds 28 TDs.

Its gonna be a tough decision. Depending on how Higgins does, I think Juedy, Lamb, Ruggs, Mims, Jefferson, Shenault and Higgins have a great shot at going round 1. That’s 7 WRs. I think over under sits at 6.

Mims is one of the guys that most grabs my attention on film. I like that he is a multiple sport guy, track and basketball.

Nearly a dozen LSU kids took part in the combine, as did most of his Clemson teammates who were invited.    So how come Tee is so special?

Another way to look at it is that the combine is analogous to a bowl game.    Players should show up and want to compete against the very best.    Not skip the "game" because they think it'll cost them money.    That's why you have pro days, so you can add data points (in addition to the combine) for teams to evaluate.    If a kid's that worried that it'll cost him $$$ because he only had 4-5 weeks to prepare, he's likely going to be the kind of mercenary, "transactional" NFL player that McDermott rails against.

Seems to me you have the equivalent "I like this guy so I don't see any warts" bias you accuse me of having against him.    I think character and competitiveness matter in player selection.    This is just another check mark as to why I don't want him as a Bill at #22...

Totally fair. I'll go make some popcorn while you draft your screeds against all the other guys who skipped the totally not mandatory drills at the combine. Because, you know, its not like you are biased against Higgins at all. Totally not. I am sure you have the inside dope on the advice he is getting from the experts he has hired to represent him who clearly haven't mastered the art of marketing a college athlete to a professional league like you have. Isn't it amazing how people who make a spectacularly successful living at doing this don't know how to do it half as well as you do?

Oh, and btw, Higgins is way down on my list of WR's but because I am not impressed with his play on the field. He reminds me of Andre Holmes, not enough meat on his bones. I could give a fig what he says in a presser. I've done about 15 draft sims so far this off season and didn't take him once. Not with guys like Claypool, Gandy-golden, Pittman and Collin Johnson likely to be there in the third or even later.

How about, "he doesn't care about his new job enough to show up for the big interview day?"

Maybe if his mommy offered him another toy he'd show?

But he did show up, like , he was literally there. But again, no problem as long as folks are consistent and conclude that anyone who skipped the totally not mandatory drills is undraftable.

I think an accurate hypothetical would be: Guy shows up for big interview, the terms of which were agreed upon ahead of time and includes that he can demo his skill set then and there or later or both, his choice. He then chooses and the interviewer has an online seizure over it.

Answer me this.   If you were interviewing a kid about to graduate from the Harvard or Wharton MBA program for a management trainee job and he said, "sorry I'm late, I had to grab some lunch because I missed breakfast" or "I had to call another recruiter back about a text they just sent me," would you still consider hiring them?

Football temperament and squad personality are intangible, yet important things.  You hear McBeane talk about them all the time.

“We’ve got a tremendous culture and a tremendous locker room. It’s really about a transformational type of culture and locker room as opposed to transactional."

"McDermott has been preaching a team-first culture since he arrived in 2017. After three seasons, he now has a handful of players who have both embraced that message and produced in a big way on the field in helping the Bills earn two playoff berths in three years."

The combine is an interview process, both in terms of gauging the players' personalities AND their ability to perform in a competitive setting.   Kids who don't rise to the challenge -- when so many others do -- are a big red flag for me.   And I suspect a lot of other NFL personnel would think like this as well...

Answer me this, how on earth do you consider your hypothetical to be analogous to Tee Higgins doing what dozens of prospects are doing? Was Higgins late to his meetings? Did he short change teams he met with because of a late breakfast? It is not at all unusual for players to decide that they have a better chance to post solid drill numbers at their pro day but to go the combine any way for the sake of the meetings. You might not like that and if you want to scratch ALL of the prospects who did so off your list, fine, you do you. But to single Higgins out with this kind of nonsense just tells me you really don't like this particular prospect and are going to reach for any negative nugget of info you can find and then blow it all out of proportion.

If you don't think he can separate, make contested catches, etc, then that is all the reason you need to want to pass on him. No need for all this kvetching.

  15. There were 10 WR's at the combine that didn't run and plenty of players at numerous positions across the board who skipped some or even all of the drills. Why are we singling out Tee Higgins for doing the same? They all have agents and a bevy of advisors working with them to develop the best plan for them to get drafted as high as possible. Obviously, many of them are following that advice. So by all means, let's come down on a college kid following the expert, highly paid advice he is getting.

If you don't like Higgins' play on the field, fine, drop him from your board but reaching a conclusion on a meaningless answer? Weird.

Advisor: Tee, after analyzing all the data we think its best that you wait until your pro day like dozens of other prospects are doing.

Tee: Ummm, okay, what do I say when they ask why?

Advisor: Just tell 'em you're tired.

    Tee: Okay.

    Twitterheads: Higgins is soft!!!!

  16. He is not even that good anymore. This is 2020, not 2013. The guy hasn't played a full season in forever.
