They are all exceptional cover LBers, that isn’t by mistake!

as any LB we sign should be, other than strictly ST guys…..which I prefer not to roster.  If jones is a minimum, no money gtd, I’m all for bringing in vets

I guess going into camp with 7 off ball LBers isn’t a big deal- it’ll make the competition all the more intense.  It’s just starange that we seem to have more off ball Lbs on our team than Edges.

I suppose they’re happy with the quintet  of Shorter, Shavers, Isabella, Hamler and Cephus to battle for WR5-6.  Hopefully they bring in someone better

I can't see that happening.    I can see a team putting a good CB on him and calling it a win.   That shuts down most TE's if teams are so unthreatened by your WR that they can afford to do that.   First time I really saw it was Wade putting Antoine Winfield on Tony Gonzales and shutting him down.   The tactic basically ruined Jimmy Grahams career when he went to Seattle and all they had were guys like Baldwin and Kearse outside.    Kelce was a real exception as a guy who isn't very impactful inline but still tears up whoever he gets in coverage.   Not sure Kincaid is going to become as much of a physical presence as Kelce.   He's pretty finesse.

Good point.  If that’s the case, it could create a mismatch with one of our other receivers or RB.

that said- I saw teams bracket Kincaid from time to time last season and I’m sure it’s going to happen this year as well.  I don’t know how easy it’ll be for opposing DCs to routinely have the proper defensive alignments with us play 12 personnel and pounding the run game.  Kincaid will be moved all around the formation (imo).

I just watched it. Look Shakir is a good dude and I appreciate how hard he is working to be better..... but all through his workout I was just thinking "man how short are that dude's arms?" He must have someone tie his laces for him.

He is a good dude.  He does have short arms.  He is productive.  Not only leading the league in catch % by a WIDE margin, his average yards per reception was also higher than most on the list. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/2023-nfl-contested-catch-rate-leaders-wr

will he replicate those numbers?  No chance, but he’s shown he can catch the ball at a very high level- even with those alligator arms.

The ONLY way to know if this kid is a hit is when he hits the field. It’s been the same way with EVERY prospect in EVERY sport through the history of time, other than Mario Lemieux.

Winter sports drafting systems changed because of Lemieux.

There has yet to be a prospect in the history of football/baseball that will change the system because of a SUPER prospect like Lemieux.

I’d say LeBron James was a 🔒too. Same with Victor Wembanyama- while he’s only one year in- there was never a doubt

Who said anything about McConkey?  Where he plays has nothing to do with Coleman.  Keon is better suited as a big slot WR than he is an X.  He’s going to have to play primarily outside in Buffalo due to the lack of other options, but it’s not like Franklin would only have been an option in the 3rd if Roman Wilson had been drafted instead of Coleman.

The thread was about who you would have taken at each spot.  I would have gone with Johnny Newton in the first.  He’s an impact DT who would start day 1.  Then I’d have gone with Wilson in the second as a pure slot WR with Franklin in the third as a true X.  Franklin is a bit of a boom or bust guy who is honestly more likely to bust than boom.  Hell, Newton is boom or bust as well.  I just think that it’s time for Beane to take a few swings at stars.

Everyone here loves to criticize McDermott for not winning the big one, but this team is sorely lacking in true difference makers.  It’s the GM’s job to find superstars, and it’s the coach’s job to coach up and scheme around the JAGs so that the superstars can do their thing.  Beane swung for the fences with his first ever draft pick and hit it out of the park, and he’s proceeded to play small ball ever since then.

My bad-  I thought you had quoted a different post.

We have 2 slot WRs in Samuel and Shakir plus Kincaid.  Why would we draft yet another pure slot over a potential X considering the state of our current roster?  That is what I was referring to.  Drafting a 3rd/4th slot option over an outside guy would be a blunder.

I agree about Newton.  I was hoping for another trade back.  If we stayed put, I wanted to draft Newton or Dejean and then trade up from 60 for an X.  I wouldn’t draft a 3rd slot.

Slot may very well be Coleman’s best option out of the gate, but he has the physicality to play Gabes role and continue to improve (He’s only 20).  Brady/McD want a physical type that can lay the wood in the run game as well as be a deep threat.  Neither Wilson nor Franklin can ever be that.  Coleman is that. That’s just the reality of the situation.

Not sure what this means.  It should probably read “imagine if we took an X after taking a slot WR”.  Coleman is more of a slot than an X.  I just took a different slot WR and added an X later in the draft.

Put your money where your mouth is.  I’ll bet you up to $500 that mckonkey plays a higher percent of snaps from the slot than Coleman does.

    I agree.

Though I don't know much about some of the later picks, they could very well have picked their #1 WR, a co #1 RB, starting center, and (soon to be) starting safety.

That would make it a fantastic draft if that pans out.

Throw in a likely soon starting DT, a quality pass rusher and linebacker with all kinds of upside +++ and it may end being the kind of draft that prevents the Bills from taking a step back this year, which many expect because of their significant player losses.

For sure.  And we look to have a legit backup for Taron (and possible punt returner) as well.  Something we’ve never had and have been very lucky that he’s been so healthy.  Loved the Carter pick.  He’s more of a 3 this point than a 1, but looks like he could possibly play a bit of both.  Solid guy next to Ed on passing downs while also being his backup.

The davis pick really has me excited.  If cook goes down, I don’t think we’ll take much of a step back.  I think he has starter potential as early as this season.

Adding starting S and C in rd 2 and 5.  I thought van pran was our best pick.  Bishop fits our scheme perfectly in Poyers role.

Soloman has great potential as a designated pass rusher.  Not a full time starter (yet anyway) but can make an impact imo.  A little undersized, but his length and massive hand size help make up for his lack of size. He gets to the QB.

Blah, blah, blah same old same old!

Keep on challenging the fire everybody/doom and gloom crowd, I love it! I posted earlier these people are angry at life to a level that exceeds the game, they will never be happy. Right on New Era!!!

Different perspectives on life I suppose.  To keep things short and not write a novel on this subject:  I love the Bills.  They are my favorite past time other than my family.  When I spend my limited time on earth thinking about and discussing my favorite past time, why would I want to shower my thoughts and mood with doom and gloom?  We still haven’t won the SB.  We might not next season either.  That’s life.  I don’t see how crying and whining that the GM didn’t have the same vision as me can bring anything positive into my world.  I used to.  I used to post negatively on the reg.  I still do once in awhile, but I get it out of my system and simply move on.  My opinion was known and nothing else had to be said.

Only one team wins the SB.  And only one team has in the last 2 seasons.  In the past 5 years, only 3 fan bases were crowned champions.  A LOT goes into winning one and we just haven’t had the dice come up in our favor due to injury’s, coaching and execution.

One of our 2 elite players dropped the biggest play/pass of the season.  While I watched MVS, juju, mckinnon, Pacheco and hardman execute on the biggest plays of KCs seasons.  Elite talent is massive-  I wish we had more of it.  But we don’t and it’s not easily acquired, especially with our cap sitch (which was partly caused by our search for the elite von miller and Diggs).  That search for elite talent put our salary cap in bad spot (least cap room in the nfl to start the offseason).  So what do you do in order to get the cap straightened out?  Keep your draft pick and accumulate more of them in order to have players under control for 4+ year at a minimum cap hit.  You don’t trade up for one potential star (who could also bust).  We’ve never been one superstar WR away from a championship.  We just didn’t game-plan properly and/or execute when we needed too.  We were right there.  Favorites vs the chiefs. We dropped the ball.  Beane didn’t.

All that said, I wanted to trade up for Nabers or Odunze.  My irrational side wanted the shiny new toy.  I accepted the reality of not trading up and moved on.  Turns out we drafted a fun new toy (not as shiny and not the WR I wanted) as well as several other promising draftees.

Accept reality.  Embrace it.  What I enjoy most about this past time is having hope.  I didn’t have a lot for quite a long time.  Now that I have plenty of it, I’m not going to get upset if the FO has a different vision as I do.  I’m going to hope that they can put us into position to win a title, like they have for the last handful of years and hope that the players and coaches execute when it matters most.  And I’m going to enjoy it.  Why? Because why not, I’m very happy in life and have zero need to bring the negativity into my world.  Yet I have no choice but to feel the negativity when I come to my favorite online last time, TBD.  I guess I’m just fighting the impossible fight of trying to open peoples eyes to how lucky we are to have this experience ahead of us the next few years. Enjoy it as much as you can because it’s something you love so much.  No need for the doom.  We aren’t doomed

i agree that 10ish years ago, I may have been top 10, but now I just get a little out of hand when I drink.  Luckily for the board, I don’t really drink unless I’m watching a bills game and don’t post very often during the games.
