  1. go LB. This class does not run deep in RB at all. after AP there is a drop off in RB. i know some people think Lynch is some amazing player, but im not convinced. And also, due to character issues and from what i can tell an apperant lack of intelligence, i have no doubt Marv and Dick have already passed on this guy. So what do you do now... well you draft the next best player at a need position, and that is a LB. the LB class is by no means great, but there isnt a large drop off in talent between Willis and Poz or Harris... and i know they play different positions, but LBs a able to be moved so i count them as all the same.

So if AP is there at 12, we take him, no question. however, Lynch is not worth the 12th pick nor is any other RB, therefore, we would definetly need to take Willis if he is there, or Poz. simple as that

If the drop off in talent from Willis- Harris isnt too large, why not get Harris or Siler in the 2nd? While I like Willis, I'd rather have Lynch and Harris/siler rather then Willis and pittman/hunt

  2. Honestly, I don't think any CB in this draft is top 20 material. I don't think Hall has "great" potential, but will most likely get paid like it when he is allowed to hit the open market. I'd like a RB or DT myself as I don't believe any LB's are top 20 material either, with the exception of Willis, who is borderline top 20 but will go higher because of his pro day 40.

I agree. The Corners and LB's in this draft arent top quality for upper 1st round picks. Willis is the exception, but I'm not totally sold on him yet. I think he COULD be a stud, but still have some doubts.

  3. I like that draft but I really think Willis is the pick at 12 if he is available. I think the Bills would have to trade up for a shot at Peterson. So here is my draft

    Round 1 - (12) Patrick Willis MLB

If we pass on this guy I think it would be a major mistake.

    Round 2 - (43) Kenny Irons RB

    A good complement to Thomas

    Round 3 - (74) Daymeion Hughes CB

His draft stock has slipped because of his poor 40 time, but would make a great player for our Tampa 2 scheme.

    - (92) Aundrae Allison WR

Great speed and is willing to make tough catch over the middle

    Round 4 - (111) Doug Free OT

Left tackle with long arms to protect Losman

I like yours too. I loved Irons 2 years ago, but this year, he didnt like the same runner. I didnt see the "make ya miss" moves I did in the past. He has really narrow shoulders too, not much room to get bigger.

  4. A solid and realistic draft but to me the gap between Willis and Siler/Harris is far greater than the gap between Lynch and Pittman/Irons and why feel be better going LB first and RB second.

You're entitled to your opinion. if we were to have that same draft and swap out willis and pittman/b. jackson I'd be happy, but my preference is the RB in round 1. I dont believe in M.Bush, T.Hunt, L. Booker or any of the other propects. Pittman and Jackson look like players.

  5. Re Taylor, I watched him, and he proved the old rule -- hand it off to a guy enough and no matter what his talents, he'll get you 1000+ yards. Bear in mind that he was playing behind one of the more talented offensive lines in the league. If Shaun Alexander from a year or two ago played behind that line, he would have had 1600 yards. The bottom line: Taylor is a pedestrian player blessed with a good situation for a running back in Minnesota (good line, bad passing game). He also didn't get hurt last year.

LOL... your post may have had some credibility if you would have used a different running back as your example. Shaun Alexander played behind one of the best left sides of an OL this league has ever seen. I think Alexander is a good RB, but far from great. Taylor may not be as good as Alexander, but he's not that far behind.

  6. I've seen many draft strategies for the Bills. Theres one strategy that really makes me think we have a chance to compete for a championship in the next couple years.

(player A/player B)= player A being the 1st choice, though may not be there for us to draft. player B should be there for sure.

ROUND 1: Adrian Peterson/Marshawn Lynch RB

IMO Running back is our biggest need. The difference between AP/ML compared to the other running backs is much greater then the difference between Patrick Willis and siler/harris. Hence, my decision to take the RB.

ROUND 2:: Brandon Siler/David Harris LB

I saw siler and harris a lot in action the last 2 years. Both look like potential leaders for our defense.

ROUND 3: Tanard Jackson/Eric Wright CB

Jackson is tough and good vs the run, just as we like them. Living in vegas I saw wright play a few times...he pretty $%$& good.

ROUND 3: Justin Durant/Tim Shaw LB

With all the hype surrounding Durant, i doubt he will be here, but I'd be very happy with Shaw. Seems like a great fit.

ROUND 4: Courtney Taylor/Paul Williams WR

Taylor is big and likes to block. Good routes and over the middle. Paul Williams has the skills for a 1st/2nd rounder. attitude needs help, but he's got serious skills.

ROUND 6: Ben Patrick/Clark Harris TE

Patrick has been getting hype, but praying he falls to us, if not, Harris is a dependable receiver(wont step out of bounds b4 he gets 2 feet down in the game determining our season) and decent blocker, good size.

    ROUND 7:Cory Anderson FB

Probably the best blocking FB in the draft, may not be there in the 7th

    ROUND 7:Doug Datish/Dan Mozes C/G

Both can play multiple positions. I could have fantasized about some great talent falling to the 7th and taking him. But even if that talent did fall, we wouldnt take him.

While I think Patrick Willis may be the best player to help our team THIS year, I believe the RB in the 1st round gives us a better chance in the long run. Siler/Harris may not have the impact Willis does this year, but 2 years from now will be impact MLB's. The RB's we would be selecting in the 2nd round are all big risks. I wouldnt feel confidant knowing they would be the starting RB for the next several years. Peterson and Lynch(talk about his attitude all you want, the kid is a stud) can take our Offense to the next level.

Though I did read a post the other day regarding taking Alan Branch #1 and Kalil #2 that made me think. I am a big believer that the OL and DL win championships. Adding them to our lines could make both top notch. If we could take them and somehow land pittman and durant/siler/harris in the 3rd round, that would be ideal.

Regardless of how all this turns out, at least we are all entertained by the possibilities. Its gonna be fun, especially if peterson falls to #6, I could see us making a deal with the redskins(they only have 1 day 1 pick) to get him.

But this is what I expect to hear on draft day

With the 12th pick in this years NFL draft, the Buffalo Bills select Paul Posluszny, Linebacker, Penn State University.

Then I smash my buddy sitting next to me with a beer bottle because hes laughing at me, and ask Marv WHY?!?!? I think poz will be good, but not a good selection in this year draft at number 12.

  7. I would have to get a rag and wipe up after myself if we could land Willis, Rice and Pittman. ;) Though I wouldnt be sad if we got Peterson or Lynch. We are Bills fans, we could never be that lucky. We're gonna draft Leon Hall, Paul Pozluzny or Ted Ginn Jr (think about how scary Ted Ginn would be in our lineup....). BTW, WTH happened to our Sabres last night :D

  8. I think Marv wants to plan for a championship team versus a solid team even if it means we have some gaps next year. That means trading picks for moving up and getting top rookies for 5 years versus depth with ok guys. Especially since we wont pay for impact free agents. We have extra 3s the next 2 years that can be used to move up inthe drafts. Lets say we do this to get 6 picks on the top 50 over 2 years and got impact players at rb,wr,te,lb,cb and dline. Plus resign LE and Jp. Would that be better than havig 2-4 extra picks? Lets shoot for a 12 win caliber team vs the saver/quicker 10 win team. Of course many think we are on the way down, not up.

I agree...while we do have several holes, quality players are the key. I'd rather 1 superstar rather then 2 decent players. We WILL fill the holes, maybe not this year, its not like we are going to win the SB this year. So get your stars when you have a chance and the rest of the pieces will fall into place. Get Adrian Peterson Marv. This is a chance to get a difference maker. Thats what we need right now. We have several role players. We need STARS

  9. Best part was, the whole time the were showing bad plays by the Bills. They must've shown 20 interceptions by JP. You would've been left with the impression that the Bills went winless last year.

LOL yeah i was thinking the same thing...trey and floyd were just smashing us as if we were definitely going 0-16 next year. laughing at the bills. Michael Smith knows whats up. He was supportive.

  10. What is the conspiracy against the bills? Start us off vs the most improved team in the NFL, that includes Travis Henry, who is going to run wild all day on us. Our porous run defense vs the rushing juggernaut....Our young dynamic duo of JP & Lee taking on the best CB duo in the league in Bailey and Bly. It could be ugly. I really hope it doesnt bring us down if we get stomped on. Its funny how a non playoff team can get 2 playoff caliber teams as their only 2 non-linked divisional games (denver & the jags). GRRRRRRRRR

  11. I would put Jackson right behind Pittman as the last of the four running backs that can help our offense get to the next level. Peterson, Lynch, Pittman and Jackson. We won't be happy if we dont get turner or one of those four. And Jackson and Pittman are still up in the air. please give me AP, ML or the Burner(no 1st round picks)!!!! I beg you marv.

  12. Wade Phillips era- i liked coach Phillips. if i remember correctly he was the last coach to have us in the playoffs and under him our defense was second best in the league two years in a row (unless im mistaken). these were the Rob Johnson/Doug Flutie times. haha what an era that was! the DC and he did a great job too.. This regime was the last remnants of the Marv Levy bills dynasty era. Grade A-

Gregg Williams- team didn't really do much but we had tommy donawhore running the show and he was too caught up in free agency. Gregg had Jerry Gray as a DC... I remember he got signed soon after Donawhore and they chose him because they thought he was very well organized and brought good structure.. guess they should have gone for a guy that knew how to coach. Grade C+

Mike Mularkey- hmm lets see,., was a sub par OC for the bills then got the promotion to head coach, GREAT IDEA!! wasn't a players coach at all but he did have a good defense one season thanks to Coach Gray and his staff and was fortunate to have Bobby April run his special teams. Take those two out of the equation and you basically get a pile of sh--. I feel he really set back JP Losman with that whole switching out of the QB job over the course of the season. PICK A QB AND STICK WITH IT FOR CHRIST SAKE! I dont think the players really liked him much, they sounded relieved to get coach Jauron. Grade C-

Dick Jauron- Bills better then expected last year. Really helped with the development of JP. I feel like he is really benefiting from Marv Levy running the show now but considering how many young guys marv left him with last year i would say that he did an excellent job helping those players develop into solid starters quick!!! Marv obviously wanted a coach that knew how to coach and develop and maxamize young talent. So far so good. Grade B+

Im not the most knowledgeable fan but what do you guys think?

    lol @ wade phillips' grade.

Its crazy how 2 people could have such different opinions on the same subject.

Phillips= D-: id love to give him an F but he made it to the playoffs. But we did have a very talented Defense. I've never seen a coach ( or anyone for that matter) look sooo stupid on the sidelines. every time they would pan the camera to him, while he was making a decision, he was sure to have a dumbfounded look on his face. Im so happy he's in dallas.

Williams= C: Classic case of a great coordinator that doesnt yet know how to be a head coach. He put together a great defense(having pat williams helped too). But he stunk.

Mularkey= C+: Classic case of a coordinator that doesnt know much.

Jauron= B: Did a good job at keeping them competitive after a rough 3-4 game stretch. This year will tell a lot.

  13. Okay, after much deliberation, I will publish my first Mock Draft for 2007.

1 - Patrick Willis, LB, Mississippi - Loss of Fletcher/Spikes. Best player at a need position.

2 - Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina - Big WR, Big Hands, ran a slow 40 time, but he plays fast. Could be a good red-zone target. Should be a first round pick but I think he will slip due to a poor 40 time.

3 - Brian Leonard, HB/FB, Rutgers - Have you seen this guy play? Wow. Wants to be a HB at the NFL level, and may be able to pull it off. A bit of a tweener, but he has great hands out of the backfield, and can hurdle tacklers. Ultimate team guy. in Ray Rice's shadows alot last season.

3 - Johnathan Wade, CB, Tennessee - Might be a bit low for him, but perhaps not. Very fast, but doesnt play the run well. Need a CB and he is likely the best one left at this point.

4 - Manuel Ramirez, OG, Texas Tech - I think his stock might be rising a bit, but if there is one spot on our line that we need to address, its RG. Could open a good competition between Pennington/Ramirez/Walker for the two RT/RG slots.

6 - Conrad Bolston, DT, Maryland - BIG Run stuffing DT. He tires easily, and and isnt a great pass rusher, but he can be a big body on obvious running downs. Has potential to Fill a big need late in the draft.

7 - Jared Zabransy, QB, Boise State - I think we will draft a QB at some point on day 2, and I like zebransky. Smart guy, likeable. #3 guy with long term backup potential.

7 - Brandon Harrison, S, Stanford - Good Special teams guy and would also provide much needed depth at the safety position

I worry that I might be optimistic on some guys falling (Ramirez/Leonard/Wade), but I am trying to keep it realistic. Let me know what you think.

    So...our Rb's this year are....leonard and a-train.... /CRY

  14. And one more point -- where was Terrell Davis drafted?

It is generally not smart to draft a first round RB unless

    (a) Your "only" need is RB

    (b) It is a franchise back

Otherwise, you find key starters at premium positions.

    Well.....DUH!!!

San Diego had tons of holes when they picked LT.

Usually if someone is regarded a franchise back, they are 1st round picks.

    thanks for the info

  15. Actually, Denver and Elway always had problems until they got a good RB. As soon as Terrell Davis came they got better. He was great for three seasons and so were they, including the SB. Then he got hurt and Olandis Gary came in and they immediately sucked. They were pretty average for the next couple years overall even though guys like Mike Anderson managed to barely eclipse 1000 yards. Then they got Portis and they started to threaten again and were back in the playoffs. There has only been about 2 years in the last 10 that they didn't have a terrific RB and still had a great season, one of which was 2 years ago.

LOL...you didnt notice that they sucked the second JOHN ELWAY left? You think the Terrell Davis was THAT good? HE was a product of the best OL. Olandis Gary and Mike Anderson put up great numbers....as did Portis. The only difference between Mike ANderson and terrell davis was Elway. Dont say elway couldnt win til he had TD, won all the time, just never won a super bowl...either did jim, so dont hate

  16. I am one of those idiots who say that Turner will cost too much. Rookie contracts are pretty measly compared to those of free agents. For instance, Ngata, whom you mention, got a deal of 5 years for $14 million. Meanwhile, Turner will likely command 5-6 years at $30-40 million!!! That's a huge difference. Plus, on top of that, you would have to give up a draft pick or two to get Turner.

I am a proponent of using one of our 3rd round picks to draft a RB. You can get a serviceable if not great RB anywhere in the draft (or even undrafted--see Priest Holmes, Willie Parker)--they are a dime a dozen.

Ummm....for every priest or willie parker, there are 50 darick holmes and jonathan lintons. You act like we can just draft johnny runningback and have him lead us to the promised land. goodluck with that line of thinking. we need a stud

  17. Plus, our weakness now is at Linebacker, this draft can shore up that area, getting a RB like Turner takes care of that position and the TE I referenced is a very interesting prospet.

Our weakness right now is at RB. Our current starting RB has gotten 2 times in the last 3 years. He is not a Starting RB. hopefully we wont have to find out the hard way. I like the A-train...as a backup. thats what he is. realize it

  18. Its an idiotic argument. People sit around and clamour for Turner then the other faction comes in with the backlash, "oh hes gonna cost too much", maybe, but then you cant support us drafting peterson, even if he fell to 12 hed likely be asking for a lot more $$$ than Ngata got last year bc hes an offensive playmaker. I know that its structred but that doesnt stop peoples demands and to be honest if you were ADs agent, wouldnt you try to squeeze the most out of that lemon as possible before another bone snaps without contact.

THe 2nd argument against turner is: "lets get a rookie with no miles on his tires". This is the one that bothers me, TUrner has a total of 3 years in the league, very light workload, but enough to tell if talent is there. We dont know if he can play every down but as a poster stated the other day he will definatley be part of a 2 back system, so its not like all the weight would be on him. The biggest problem with the argument is that come september these are a lot of the same folks who willb e saying, "oh but we're going with a rookie RB, he could use time to work on blocking, routes etc". Turner has had this time, hes studied behind THE BEST DAMN GUY IN THE GAME for 3 years.

I support trading for turner very much, but not if it involves giving up more than a 2nd round pick(IMO a swap of firsts is too much because we would not then be able to select one of the last elite prospects on the board). The idea is that it would likely be hard to draft a back better than turner in the 2nd round and I cant help but agree with that thinking. A lot of people on here have been saying, "well this is a deep RB class and there are plenty of guys to choose from". I disagree. Last year was a very deep draft at RB. 2 years ago, the draft was deep at RB. This year there are 2 near-elite prospects and about 5-7 more guys who grade out as day 1 picks. Could I be wrong? definately. The one thing that bodes well if we draft a late first day RB to start is that our OL should resemble a steamroller.

I got way off topic on this one. Sorry. The point is I believe that if we can snag turner for a 2nd rounder (or even a swap of 2nds and a third next year) that it would allow us to field the best team because we would still have a chance to draft Patrick Willis or trade back and pick up Puz(Poz, pus, puss, whatever you wanna call him) or address other positions of need. Imagine if our draft looked something like this:

    1(trade back): Robert Meachum

    2: Michael Turner

2(acquired through trade down): David Harris or Jason Durant.

    3a-Daymeion Hughes.

    or

    1: Patrick Willis

    2: Turner

3a: Anthony Gonzales, Steve Smith, Craig Davis etc. or a CB.

I think that would address our needs most sufficiently. In either scenario we could choose an upper eschelon player with our first pick, fill needs with our top 3(one of them being Turner RB) and use our final 3rd rounder to either move around in the draft or sit on it and choose the absolute best player available for depth.

Jeez, I think i just turned into the type of poster whose been driving me nuts lately. Time for a TBD break.

I highly doubt Gonzales, smith or davis will be there in the 3rd. gl with that one.

  19. Don't give up a first round pick in any draft for Turner, this year or next year. A combination of a 2nd's and 3rd's from either year is enough. Its more than we got for Mcgahee, but we are getting a better player. 2nd this year, 3rd next sounds good to me. Maybe he can be had for less, but if we wanna win now, this gives us the best chance. Turner+Willis/Hall >>> Lynch/Peterson+D.Harris/insert cb here. Though i love the thought of having AP or ML, our defense would suffer in that situation. Drafting Willis/Hall+irons/pittman/bush/leonard/rest of the crappy rb's would be the biggest mistake. Though Pittman could work out.
