Yeah, the one we spec'ed was at 22kW. All sorts of fancy features they have on them nowadays with wifi and apps and stuff.
This is the model: https://www.generac.com/all-products/generators/home-backup-generators/guard
ian-series/22kw-7042-wifi-enabled
Annoying/Frustrating to see an MSRP of $5500 on the manufacturer site and then everyone we talk to is $12k all in. But that is full install. Pulling permits, pouring the pad, wiring it into the house, etc. I get it isnt easy, but when more than half is install/labor... ugh.
That is the unit I have, but I got it done for about 9k+. Don't remember the final number, but it was under 10.
It isn't simply the generator. I have two 200amp transfer panels that connect the generator to the service panel. They are not cheap.
As well, the unit needs fuel, whether nat gas or liquid propane, and that is a plumbing expense.
There are ways to save money.
I didn't pay a Generac contractor. I found a local guy who does these installs to do the generator and transfer panels, and got a separate guy to do the fuel supply plumbing.
You don't need to pour a concrete pad. I leveled the ground, built a weather resistant rectangle, filled it with crushed stone, then leveled it and put 12x12 pavers on top. The generator is secure and level.

Prodigious inflation, political turmoil and an unstable currency, but nice weather, great fishing and really cool Andes mountains.

Lots of anti-American sentiment here. No big surprise. Real Americans welcome the poor, the tired, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free even if they’re a different skin color.
Spend ten years going through US Customs and Immigration at Miami International more than once per week in the morning when the South/Central American flights arrive. Talk to the folks who work there and you'll get a feel for this issue.
It has absolutely noting to do with skin color.

Simpson's eyes tell the tale.
There are rare videos out that see into his helmet at his eyes.
Those videos show his kinesthetic sense, which is the ability to read body language and move accordingly.
When he got in space, his eyes were always on the next guy. He already had the first guy beat.
Larry Byrd was similarly gifted. He could diagram every one of his team mates and the defenders on the way down the court.
A singularly amazing athlete.

This is standard for navy pilots right?
No.
It is required for pilots who are going operate in hostile countries, what we call "feet dry."
It is not required for anti sub, transport, non search and rescue helicopters and others who would not go feet dry, ergo, not risk a POW thing.
It has changed massively since I went through, especially with the admission of women into that profession, but it was a very unenjoyable, but very valuable experience.

Does POW camp qualify?
During SERE, (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) training, spent a couple days and nights in a POW camp.
Shoved in a box, really cold.
Interrogated a couple times. Got beat up a bit. Saw a few guys get water boarded.
Really not fun.

I am going to loose my voice for sure.
We Argentines are very passionate when it comes to sports and with what I expect on this trip, I am not going to miss the chance to scream like a madman 🙂
Buffalo on a Sunday home game is intense, but I have never seen anything like BA an hour before a World Cup game, except a night in Sao Paulo when Brasil won the Cup.

Ps: If someone comes to travel to Buenos Aires, do not hesitate to contact me!
I don't live in the Buffalo area anymore, but I did grow up there.
I have spent hundreds of nights in Buenos Aires during my career, so I can contrast the two.
First, Buffalo and US in general do not have anywhere near the public transport that BA has, so if you need to get around, you must find other means.
As far as food, you must try the local sandwich, called "beef on weck."
I have been to many of your beef places, and my comment would be that the best steaks in BA are great.
Beef on weck is really good; good as the beef at La Cabrera, El Establo and New Brighton, but served quite more rare, and as a thinly cut layered sandwich in a much less formal atmosphere.
The pizza in Buffalo is way better.
The wine selection isn't nearly as good, but few places on earth are.
The ability to do currency conversion is nearly non existent in Buffalo, so bring what you need.
Do not buy US $ in Argentina, unless you "know someone," as the conversion rates will be much better here.
Have that plan figured out before you come, but I expect the best way is to have enough incidental US cash, and do the rest on credit cards.
Have fun.

I'm a Christian and have attended Bible study for years.
The Book of Revelations is impossible to interpret, offers no life guidance, and is a "vision."
It is the one portion of the Bible I never look to for anything other than passing interest.
To each his own.

I hope Billstime doesn't mind a temp thread diversion but...how much more did your houses come in than quoted. I hear 150% is expected. ridiculous and that's from the contractors quote.
The answer to that question depends on what changes are made after the bid.
Our's were about 15% higher than the original bid, but that was our doing.
It is not realistic to guess at a figure, because it depends on so many variable. This house, I was travelling to South America the entire time, so I had arranged for all the hardwood flooring and interior doors to be imported from there. The original bid had standard US supplied oak flooring and hollow core doors, but I had that stuff shipped up, so maybe I'm not the guy to ask.
Additionally, I did a fair amount of work myself, intercoms. sound and ceiling fans etc.

For what it's worth, which is probably nothing, we have had our last three houses built. New construction.
I am an energy geek and follow the industry and technology closely.
Our last house had geothermal. Loved it.
The pricing eliminated that consideration on the one we live in now. Prices for geothermal in no way are justified.
This house is perfect for solar. We have a three car garage roof that faces true south. I had the roof of the garage framed to handle solar, which I wanted to have the option to do later on when efficiencies made sense. They still don't.

Those companies that drill for oil in the US do not sell within the US they take their product and they dump it on the open market

After quite a few outages over the years, and getting by with small but powerful generators, we installed a 23kw whole house generator a couple years ago.
Total cost was a bit less than $10K, which included the generator, lp hookup and electrical service transfer panel. I used different guys for the lp hookup and service panel work, and total cost was considerably less than going with a generator company for the entire project.
Happy wife happy life.
By the way, having your home service underground, as our is, is no insurance against the grid that supplies the power to the underground point.

Did you have an issue with this line from the OP? “Constantly being mentioned in the same breath as KC, Cincinnati and Buffalo”?
Bills fans don’t seem to have a problem putting themselves in the same category as the Bengals and Chiefs, but they tend to get offended when someone puts the Dolphins in the same category as the Bills. So my question is, if Miami hasn’t shown that they belong in a conversation with Buffalo, what has Buffalo done to belong in a conversation with Kansas City?
Beat them twice in the past two years regular season in Kansas City.
Took them to an overtime coin toss in Kansas City in the playoffs.
Not sure how you could be closer.
I'm not saying the Bills are better. They certainly were a franchise hurting at the end of last season, but to suggest that they "don't belong in the conversation," is not valid.
Miami absolutely has improved, and I have no problem acknowledging that.

I don’t think I’ll be drinking the local stuff much. And I will NOT be signing up for anything! We have a back log from Lambert Bridge near Healdsburg, CA. What a lovely town! You may be near or at least familiar with it.
Ya. We used to live near Napa in our early years, which is what got me interested in viticulture.
I'm more a fan of Spanish, Italian and South American vintages, but to each his own.

@sherpa, just remembered that I was there when the Blue Angels did their air show for Fleet Week. It was an amazing thing to behold.
What year?
Could be friends of mine.
My best buddy in the Pacific Fleet Adversary Squadron was Curt Watson, who joined the Blues along with others from that pipeline.
He was the guy who flew Tom Cruise, at the behest of Paramount studios, on an indoc flight that Cruise liked so much he agreed to do Topgun 1.
Curt also spent a year with the Green Bay Packers, which I found out about under under surprising circumstances.
On a WNY note, Mike Gershon, the Blue that died in a midair at the Niagara Falls 1985 airshow was a friend.
Video available on youtube.

if you don't want to travel to the west coast, you can spend time on the finger lakes wineries and breweries. if you're willing to drive and hour and a half to two hours, you can go to niagara on the lake in canada, which has it's own wine region. fun tours, etc.
that being said, $22 for a glass of finger lakes wine, (or any wine) is insane. i get nyc prices, but my god. i honestly don't love a lot of the wines from around here. many tend to be sweet, but on occasion we find one we like at a winery and buy a case. it's always very reasonable.
Not to cast stones here, but I don't think that region can produce top quality wines compared to other regions with longer growing seasons.
I am not criticizing them, I just don't think it is possible, but being familiar with the work, I am happy they are successful.
For bona fides. I have run a commercial vineyard on my property for seventeen years, and our 2017 grapes won a silver medal in the 2021 Virginia Governor's Cup.
I have ultimate respect for the folks in that region who do what I do here.
The whites require less growing season than the Bordeaux red I grow here, the odds are so stacked against them, and I would take a Virginia white at every choice.

I need to read that. The whole story of that is a good study in how we got from where we were to where we are.
You will not be disappointed if you read it.
I read it because I wanted to go over the physics of the issue, and it was a subject I had forgotten.
It is a fabulous book, complete with all the characters and a real time addressing of the issues; a novel with a huge scientific vein.
No fiction.

Consider dinner at Churchill Arms in that area.
A bit touristy, but good Asian food in an old pub setting, which is a bit odd.
Wife loves it. Her favorited place.
