  1. I see little added pressure from Jimbo's comments as basically he stated the obvious that EJ's 0 fer 3+ gams driving for TDs. Kelly stated something I do not think anyone (EJ most of all ) would disagree with.

He would be pressuring EJ IF he had said he did not think EJ was good enough or even if he expressed uncertainty. Actually, he endorsed the idea of EJ potentially becoming the franchise QB.

Is there anything Kelly could say that would not put additional pressure on EJ.

I think his comments were as much of an endorsement as h could make.

How well did JK and the Bills perform in the preseason under Marv Levy?

Did JK have a someone when he played with the kind of clout Jim kelly has now complaining about what went on in the preseason? With a reshuffled Oline and new WR's? I don't think so

I've watched JK complain about every QB the Bills have had over the last few years and I don't think it does the confidence of the football team any good.

On the other hand, I'm very, very happy to have JK around the team and complaing about our QB situation again, Jim must be feeling better

  2. The Bills have taken big steps in hopes of giving EJ Manuel the kind of help/supporting cast he needs to become successful in the NFL. Many of the faces are new and raw, but with very high ceilings. Oline is just now settled and our number 1 target in Sammy Watkins has been missing for a couple of games. The Bills are still a work in progress including our inexperienced signal caller.

I love JK, I really do,

but EJ Manuel doesn't need the added pressure IMO...

  3. Have to agree w/skip that coaching staff is hurting both players. Pettine is in over his bald head, and shanahan is a dud ... I'm really impressed with how much better skins offense already looks without him.

At this time I'm having a hard time seeing now any QB thrives under that regime.

Joe, I agree on the skins Offense looking better when Cousins was running it. I'm not so sure about RGIII.

Some signal callers like Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, and you could put RGIII into this category, are not your typical pocket passing QB's and need an Offense suited/built around their skill set IMO.

Myself personally, I'm a fan of JF, but It was the right decision giving Hoyer the start. Especially considering half Hoyers throws were dropped. Hoyer knows how to read an opposing NFL Defense, and its a job requirement Manziel has barely scratched the surface on.

    Good call HC Pettine

Note: Reading all the discussions lets keep in mind Its not always the QB's fault when a play isn't executed properly. One play where JF threw behind his TE, its because he expected the TE to sit down in the middle of the zone Defense. TE made the mistake, but JF takes the blame for being off target. (Just goes with the territory)

  4. I see absolutely no optimism anymore with Doug Marrone. Frankly, he justs looks confused now whenever anyone asks him something. Hackett, you just don't hear anything from anymore.

Could be that 1 year of coaching the Bills is like experiencing 1 dog year, or maybe it's that these guys are truly starting to panic right now.

Either way, quite a different feeling from last year.

    :w00t:

  5. He also played very few nfl games. He only started 16 once. Only started 10 or more 3 times.

You would likewise have to concede that running the ball 1.5 times per drive would expose him to a lot more potential hits, even if he can dodge some of them.

yes, I do concede the amount of times JF runs the ball increases his chance of injury

  6. As much as you want to turn the discussion into a series of absolutes that results in there being no significant injury risk to his style of play, that simply is not the case.

Does being elusive help? Sometimes, yes. Why not all the time? Because nobody is elusive enough to avoi all hits. Even a guy like Vick, who is an unquestionably better athlete than Manziel, took too many hits.

Sometimes a lack of mobility can get a QB hurt. Doesn't always. Peyton is one of the least mobile QBs ever to play--he's played 16 games every season in which he's stepped on the field.

Style of play matters more than size or athleticism. I'm not backing off that idea.

Matching a players skill set/ style of play with the scheming/ Offense they run is very important and helps prevent injury IMO.

  7. If you're trying to show that, then why are you asking me to agree with your correlation between size and injury?

Injuries can happen to any player at any time. The greatest modifiable factor is playing style. QBs that spend more time outside the pocket get hurt more often than those that stay in as a rule.

The more Johnny puts himself in that position, the more likely he is to get hurt.

I'm yet to see/hear any compelling argument against that. The idea that he's smaller and therefore less likely to get hurt doesn't ring true for me. The Vick example is just one reason why.

Drew Brees is roughly the same size as Vick, and Brees had one major injury (which occurred while he was scrambling outside the pocket). The reason Brees is so durable is that he stays home and delivers the ball quickly.

That's not Manziel's game, and thus I don't expect him to be nearly as durable.

You do agree by being elusive, it cuts down on the number of hits, no?

You do agree a QB without mobility can get injured because of it, no?

  8. Yet another compelling argument rife with facts and logical justification.

    Oh wait...

I tried to illustrate there are many factors that can increase the chance of getting a player injured.

I also tried to show some players are simply more durable then otheres. Cam Newtons big, but still defies the odds of injury because hes also very durable.

small players can also be durable...

  9. Huh?

Big, less elusive QB's will take more hits than a smaller more elusive QB correct?

Smarter QB's will take less hits then dumber QB's correct?

Stands to reason QB's on young inexperienced football teams without a good supporting cast might have a higher probablity of injury correct?

Stands to reason inexperienced rookies are more likely to sustain injury then veterans correct?

  10. QBs touch the ball on 100% of the offensive plays.

I understand that Gu, but in comparison Barry Sanders ran with the ball much more then manziel ever will, I'm not sure what the percenteges are, but manziel has a great arm and some folks are under the impression that all he does is run.

  11. So, Vick is injury prone and would be knocked out of games even if he was strictly a pocket passer? Common dogduck...Vick is the perfect comparison for Manziel and you must see this. Both are run first (maybe second) and both put themselves in situations that lead to injury.

Barry Sanders was 5 foot 8 and weighed less then JF.

By your logic, wouldn't Barry sanders have been injured constantly throughout his carreer?

  12. Is he more elusive than Vick? Is he smaller in stature than Vick? When was the last time that Vick was able to play a full NFL season?

It's all in the physics. DC T will be along shortly to give us a dissertation.

I could name a few big QB's that are very injury prone and what does it prove?

  13. I understand that elusiveness is nice but especially in his rookie year I suspect that, much like that 4 and 1 he will cut inside and those linebackers, and end are athletic enough at this level to still lay a hit.

And are you really going to attempt an argument that the hits will effect him less because he's small?

yes, and I just explained why
