  1. To put one more (meaningless?) log on the fire, Leodis McKelvin scored a 13.

Vince Young scored a 6 his first time

win loss record as a starter 30-17, and thats a QB

Wonderlic scores are way overrated in my opinion. Athleticism and being mentally tough under pressure trumps wonderlic

Fitz aced the wonderlic(or could have) whats that got us?

  2. Thanks for an interesting reply.

Mallett has many detractors on this board, at least one of whom is someone who imo knows quite a bit about football. He is often likened to Bledsoe, as if 44,611 yards and 251 touchdowns are a bad thing. I guess it comes down to whether or not a young Bledsoe would be able to succeed in these times. Any thoughts on that?

As a fan, I hope that Mallett makes it in this league. I know that there are all different types of arm strength, but as I jog my memory I am unable to recall any qb throwing a low 50 yard post pattern with his feet completely planted. He throws 25 yard checkdowns from his wrist with lots of speed on the ball. Coach Saban commented that he makes about 4 throws per game that nobody else can make.

I will be very curious to see where he goes in this draft.

I agree Bill from NYC, Mallet has one hell of an arm, Bledsoe is a great comparison

  3. He told the truth. The obvious truth. If he said something as delusionary that the Bills are going to be good next year he would be laughed off the stage. I have little regard for the owner. But he has been forthright in stating that getting back to respectability is going to take time and patience. For those honest remarks I give him credit. Anyone who thinks otherwise is going to be very disappointed.

I agree John, nobody in their right mind wants to hear that Fitzpatrick is our QB of the future and its nice to hear RW's confirmation that he feels the same way.

  4. Straight from the article:

So this article tells us exactly what even us Newton supporters have known, and been saying, all along... His only possible red flags are his work ethic (which has been defended so far by coaches and team mates), and his mental capacity to learn a Pro offense (which can be said for all QB prospects).

They do a very good job of breaking down and dispelling the "run first" myth. As far as listing his mistakes from when he was 19 years old... All I'll say is that I doubt there are very many of us that would pass this test if someone were to list the 4 dumbest things we did when we were 18-21 years old.

I understand the concern on that, but will leave it up to Buddy and Co. to interview Newton and make the proper decision.

The "Conclusion" section of the article sums it up perfectly. Amazing talent, good-coachable mechanics, issues are most likely behind him.

    Go Bills!

    What he said

Here's the thing, if Cam Newton is widely regarded as good enough to take at #3 (which apparently he already is). He's good enough to take at #1 or #2. I get the sense here that people think the Bills will no doubt have the opportunity to draft him or not draft him since they're at #3.

People need to start realizing that the Panthers, Broncos or a handful of team's desperate at the QB position behind the Bills' pick will ALL be in the mix for Newton. In the end, Newton will eventually be seen as the #1 guy in the draft and either the Panthers or a team that desperately wants him will have to trade up to get him.

The only way I see Newton on this team is if the Bills surrender Fitzpatrick and their #2 pick to move up to the #1 slot. Either the Panthers get him or they get a sweet deal to trade out. That's how I see it going down.

I agree, Its very possible Cam Newton will be the first pick overall in the 2011 NFL draft.

  5. Never thought Ralph/Buddy had it in 'em - this has gotta be the biggest smokescreen I ever saw from the Bills' front office!

There's NO WAY Buffalo takes a QB on day one - maybe on day 2, in round 3, if at all (probably Christian Ponder). JMO.

    GO BILLSSS!!!!

    Fear the 'stache!!!!! B-)

I respectfully disagree Senator, picking 3rd theres no reason for smokescreens, it only discourages other teams to even try to trade up with Buffalo by saying Buffalo wants a QB, so whats the motive?

RW wants a playoff/ championship caliber QB and what Wilson/Brandon wants Wilson/Brandon gets...(or tries to anyway)

  6. From the same link

"When I asked about the pain he was in, about the big hit in the fourth quarter that left him awfully slow to get up,..."

I think it was pretty evident what hit hurt him the most and up until that hit he didn't show he was in a good deal of pain throught the game. He obviously tried to minized the hit, which doesn't bother me.

The point is, he will be hit harder and teams will easily gameplan against him in the NFL if he thinks that he'll have success running the ball like he did in College. If he wants to maximize the damage he can do with his legs he will first have to learn to hurt teams from the pocket.

If you find me a replay of the game I'll point out the hit,

cant believe I'm not able to find a replay of the damn game!

  7. I just listened to it and he says nothing about the injury. Can you produce a link? Another thing, if you say the problem was in the amount of hits he took how will he fare in the PROs when the people delivering the hits are stronger and faster than guys from College. Are you saying that 50% of his game won't translate that well to the PROs because he won't be able to sustain the punishment he will receive?

I quote :When I asked about the pain he was in, about the big hit in the fourth quarter that left him awfully slow to get up, Newton smiled for the only time and said, "I'm OK; it was worth it." And he added it wasn't just one hit that put him in a golf cart.

  8. That is pure and utter BS. The hit came very late in the 4th quarter when Newton took off on a 3rd and long.

Listen to the Cam Newton interview after the game, right out of the horses mouth he says that was not the only big hit.

Don't try to tell me what I seen and didn't see, I've watched Newton all season, even the coaches knew there was a problem with Newton throughout most of the game.

Tell me this Einstein, how is the hit that almost knocked Cam out(the one you're talking about) and didn't come anywhere near his back cause a severe back injury? It didn't, the one I'm talking about that caught Newton square in the middle of the lower back did the most damage.

  9. Two things stand out:

"I've made a lot of mistakes with my team in the last 10 years,'' Wilson said.

Apology accepted, bitterly and reluctantly, but accepted. Thanks for owning up Ralph.

"I think it will take two or three years to have a playoff team -- and that's if we get a quarterback."

Interesting that he still feels this way heading into the draft...

Sounds like Wilson is anything but satisfied with the play of Ryan Fitzpatrick which is good to hear.

My hopes are Cam Newton will continue to impress and be a Buffalo Bill one day soon.

    Thanks ball of Beer

  10. Did you even watch the game? Newton was far from impressive. Just because he's the leader of the team doesn't mean he was responsible for that victory.

Sure I watched it, watched the Tigers all season long. Cam Newton took a helmet to the middle of his back in the 1st quarter and played with injury from that point on.

The Auburn Tigers never would have even sniffed the BCS National Championship without Newton and Nick Fairley would be an afterthought playing for a 500 football team.

  11. 64 yards rushing on an obscene amount of runs isn't impressive. And Newton did not lead Auburn to that victory. That game was won because of the Auburn running game. Not Newton.

Cam Newton is the QB and LEADER of the National Champion Auburn Tigers football team and 329 of the total 519 yards of offense was because of Newton,

What, you think because the Auburn RB did his job(Micheal Dyer) Newton shouldn't get any credit? Get real

  12. Plus the fact that he sucks. Why would anyone want him? Those who do probably didn't watch the national championship game. The guy could barely complete a pass. Very Edwardsesque imo

20-34, 256 yards passing, another 64 rushing and a QB rating of 137.82

Cam Newton despite a severe back injury he suffered in the 1st quarter led his football team to a victory in the National Championship.

Most folks probably wouldn't even be able to walk with the same back injury much less play QB.

Statistically, Newton one of the best ever http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/tag/_/name/cam-newton
