  1. RotoWorld/Panthers will host Cam Newton

Chan tightens the QB vest BuffaloNews.com

What does he think of Auburn's Newton? "I’m anxious to see him continue to work out. I’m anxious to see what he’s going to do here this week. But he obviously had a great year. I watched him several times on TV. I’ve not studied him to this point yet. I’ve looked at a little bit of tape but not studied him. He’s a big athlete that is in that wildcat mode but obviously has the ability maybe to go to the dropback passer mode."

Gailey said Newton's throwing motion is excellent. "His mechanics are fine. He has no mechanical flaws. He has all the physical attributes."

  2. Highlights from Chan Gailey's presser at the Combine/ ESPN Tim Graham

He is "anxious" to see Auburn quarterback Cam Newton work out in Lucas Oil Stadium and called him "a big athlete that's in that Wildcat mode, but obviously has the ability to go to the dropback-passer mode."

Gailey claimed he wasn't concerned with Newton being a one-year starter at Auburn.

Ten years ago, the NFL dictated to colleges how quarterbacks should play. In the next decade, Gailey foresees college football dictating how the NFL uses the quarterbacks who emerge from whatever offenses work in college.

  3. I took Cam Newton

    My reasons

    - Cam would not get a lot of playing time in his first year.....possibly a sprinkle of wildcat, but we have a good situation here where we can finally draft a QB high and not ruin him but putting him on the field and lean on him in the first year. You draft him and Fitz is still the man......Newton is in the wings and will be much better for the fact that someone like Gailey is bringing him along.

    - I am also a believer that your high picks need to be contributers...but the good news is there are defensive players carrying a 1st round grade that will slip in the the 2nd round and we pick high in the second. Phil Taylor might slip to there. We will also see some good linebacker prospects with our 3rd and 4th round picks

    - One thing you hardly ever see with a mobile QB is a guy who can throw the ball accurately....and Cam can. He has a cannon to play in the cold Buffalo weather, he is a extremely large guy.

    - In two years when the bills are truely ready to make a super bowl push Cam will be ready.

    - Who knows if we draft low enough next year to be in the blue chippers and getting a QB.....we dont even have a backup right now....WE NEED A QB.

    I also voted Cam Newton,

I might be inclined to pepper Cam in a little more then John suggests during his rookie season, but I agree, not rushing Newton and allowing him to develop slowly under Gailey/Fitz is an ideal situation for the Auburn Tiger signal caller.

  4. Per Peter King Tweet, from conversation he had with Newton this afternoon:

    @SI_PeterKing

    Peter King

Newton: "I see myself not only as a football player, but an entertainer and icon.'' Ron Rivera, Chan Gailey, John Harbaugh blanch.

For anyone that hated TO, it looks like Newton may be of the same ilk.

    What was really said

Newton: I want to be an entertainer and an icon (big difference)

Why words got twisted around I have no idea

  5. Stevie is probably a 3 on more then a few teams. Lee would be 1-2 pretty much anywhere.

Stevie is a 2 in my opinion

Lee Evans is looking more and more like another Peerless Price (and I liked Peerless)

  6.

Speaking of comedy, you just provided some of slapstick of your own!

Just to set the facts straight, Harrell wasn't released at all, by ANY team, unless you refer to getting cut by Cleveland after a tryout. He asked for his release in Saskatchewan to pursue his dream of playing in the NFL, where he now sports a Superbowl ring is likely about to be promoted from third string QB to Aaron Rogers backup...

Where Is Matt Flynn Most Valuable To The Packers?

and the packers might just know a thing or two about signal callers,

  7. Don't waste your time worrying about Cam Newton he will likely go number one overall. Not my call a guy by the name of Gil Brandt said he would be "shocked", if Newton did not go number one in the draft. This was reported by Pro Football Talk.com

But what does Gil Brandt know?

Awwww, stop pouring sour milk on my flutie flakes :wallbash:

  8. the McKelvin pick wasn't bad in a sense of where/when he was drafted. A lot of people were projecting him as a top 10 pick. If we needed a CB, i think McKelvin would have been a good pick.

The bigger problem is that we should have simply re-signed Greer (who did not sign a very expensive contract) and not even had to draft McKelvin, and as you alluded to, we could have used that pick elsewhere.

Great point on Jabari Greer, we should have kept him in Buffalo.

  9. Fig, love the avatar.

I change my mind daily on my opinion of the Bills possibly drafting CN. If we draft him and he's a bust, we've wasted another choice draft pick. But if we pass, and he becomes this amazing player, well, that would suck too. I'm tempted to lean towards us rolling the dice on him, only because we need something great to happen and he offers the most big splash/high impact potential to change a franchise's fortune. Yes, I'd love to build a great DEF with one of the top DL players, but I'm so desperate for a star QB that I thnk we should take a chance.

You said it BuffaloATL, we need something great and Cam Newton offers the biggest splash/high impact potential. The Pats have 8 draft picks in the first 4 rounds of the 2011 NFL draft so how can we compete with them. Cam Newton is a one man army, that's how.

We have to roll the dice!

  10. I was a HUGE Tebow fan from his freshman year, on. Even back then I thought "This is our next Jim Kelly" and prayed the Bills could land him last year more so than Ive ever wanted any previous prospect. To the point that I hoped the Bills had the #1 pick so they could pick Tebow #1 overall. That's how much I wanted him on this team.

That being said, I'd take Newton at #3 this year over Tebow in a heartbeat.

I feel much the same way.

  11. We are all aware, and all agree, some stupid crap went down at Florida.

If this is your only reason for not drafting him, you have either never watched any of his games, or are the worst talent evaluator around. No major or violent crimes were committed. He purchased a stolen laptop. He got some traffic tickets. He might have been caught cheating.

With that last one, is the real crime that he got caught, because most of the people I know cheated their way through college at some point.

What is your point here? To prove he was a dumb 19 year old 3 years ago?

This is the way I look at it Dank,

I'm not trying to say what Cam did in Florida was right, but one paper was given to Cam by a fellow classmate who was willing to sacrifice his own grade in an effort to help Cam and another was taken off the internet. This kind of thing happens all the time. Of course its not the right thing to do, but what If a the whole football program is depending on you and not just the football program, the college, sometimes the whole State, all depending on Cam Newton. Student athletes have a lot on their table, especially the QB of a football team. Cam Newton made mistakes and he learned from them. Its what we do in life, it builds character If lessons are learned and you become a better person for it in the long run. Again, I'm not saying by any means cheating is right because its not, but a lot more of the same goes on every day by many students who don't get caught so lets not get to carried away here.

As far as the stolen laptop goes, I've studied the case file from front to back and the case was botched up so badly by the detectives it would have literally been laughed out of court.

  12.

True, but Kim Newton only became all that after January 15th, when Luck announced he would stay at Stanford - leaving a huge void of QB-draft-hype that someone had to fill!

I've just got one thing to say to you on the QB front Senator

    Graham Harrell :flirt:

Hope all is well my friend

  13. Maybe this is our new plan. Instead of losing so many players to IR during the season and having to fill in the holes at the last second... we'll just sign players who are already injured so we know what to expect going into the season. The team will be great in Madden though! (with injuries turned off, of course)

  14. Although Fitz is no Jim Kelly, Kelly also had quite a bit more talent to work with on both offense and defense. So your comparison is a bit flawed. QBs do not win games by themselves. You can ask Steve Young for instance how he felt moving from Tampa to the Niners.

Kelly still had twice the arm, twice the accuracy, Fitz is a fumbling, bumbling fool ( I hear where you're coming from though)

  15. It means you're not too terribly bright I would guess?

Where did Fitzpatricks almost acing the wonderlic get him Einstien?

Jim Kelly scores in the 15's(as did Marino) , Fitz 49, Fitz scores three times as high as Kelly, yet Jim Kelly was three times the QB and so was Dan Marino.

  16. Most of the speculation around Sanders is that he'll end up signing a veteran minimum contract with escalators based upon playing time and performance.

I don't think there are teams who are gonna throw money at a guy who played in only 9 games total over the last three seasons.

That's right. Sanders has only played in 9 of the last 48 regular season games for the Colts.

Now that's something to think about before investing in Bob Sanders.

We already have one questionable player as far as staying healthy goes(Shawn Merriman)two might be one to many.

  17. This article actually lends credence to your version. I've heard a few different versions. I guess we may not know for sure. If you google it there are a few different links. Even his wiki has some articles quoted. The other article I read just said it was false (is never happened), not that it was improper testing. I guess if the testing was poor one could argue the test never actually happened.

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3687374.html

Thanks, and I have to agree with you, we really don't know for sure. Saying it was confirmed by several NFL scouts without proof or names doesn't really confirm anything.

    Practice.

It's the question structure, rather than the actual problem, that throws many people taking the test. Start to understand the logic/process behind how questions are asked/answered and its easy to see how scores can be improved on retest (no different that GMAT, LSAT, etc.).

I could see where practice solving mathematical problems/ equations would help increase scores

  18. It was reported as made up before the draft. NFL confirmed the report that it was made up. Media had already run with it. Clearly the damage is/was done.

    confirmed or disputed?

Scoring 6 was confirmed by several NFL scouts http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/draft/2006-03-01-young-wonderlic_x.htm

Combine officials used the combine score as the official score.(16)

Have a link or anything verifying it? I'm not doubting your word, but would like to have proof in case i repeat what your telling me

Just because Young officially scored 16 at the combine doesn't mean he didn't score a 6 before hand. You can take the test as many times as you want, Jason Campbell took it 3 times

  19. Word is that score was made up- just saying

    News to me

A cerebral quarterback who took a no name offensive line and always had them in the correct protections so they were able to give some semblance of decent pass blocking?

A cerebral quarterback who took a bunch of rookie wide receivers and managed to get them all on the same page?

A cerebral quarterback who was able to make his reads quickly and get rid of the ball on time to avoid unnecessary sacks?

    Yeah. I thought so.

Nothing against Vince Young. Certainly teams will be interested when the Titans actually release him. But Fitz did a very good job last year for us and will do so again this year.

Vince Young would win twice as many games under Gailey in my opinion

Fitz has also thrown as many INT's as games played in the NFL( haven't made a comparison, but Fitz has to be near the top of the league in fumbles for a QB)
