  1. Just more evidence that Pres. Obama is really an Illuminati puppet.

Now, more to the point of the OP, why is it that associating with certain types of people puts you in the same category of those people? Is it only because those are eeeevil groups? I associate myself with Christians, break bread with Christians, and attend events espousing and celebrating Christianity. Am I a Christian?

If you're doing it at church, then quite likely you are a Christian or at least share many similar views.

The simple act of associating with socialists, Marxists and other left leaning groups doesn't mean much taken alone, but when you're associating with these types at functions celebrating known Marxists then its a pretty clear indication that Barry is at least sympathetic to their cause. Politicians get to know all sorts of unsavory characters, and I couldn't care less if Obama enjoys talking borscht with Lenin himself every year at the XYZ gala fundraiser. But there is a difference between overlapping social circles with socialists and going out of your way to serve on a panel with the radical left. In this instance I think its totally fair to discuss Obama's associations.

  2. My kids are off this week for spring. break, and were total tools this weekend. So today we have about 2 inches come down, and the public schools are closed. The snow will all be melted by. noon looks like, so they dont even get to play in it for long. HAH, there s a God,,,,,

Like the Bible teaches: Honour thy father, little tools, lest thou be smote.

Not sure a day off from school is really going to upset them that much, but glad you're happy.

  3. It just seems as though they don't give a rats a** about keeping the Bills where they belong ! No wonder the guy that owned the Sabres Tom Galisano wanted to get out of NY , he found out just how sh***y the democratic gov't is in NY .. VOTE THERE CROOKED :censored: OUT so WNY can get what they need & want to keep our Bills right where they belong -- IN BUFFALO !!

I don't really think that money should be spent on sports teams but seeing as they are come on spread the love don't hog it all in NYC ! Why doesn't any of the media reporters do a story on this subject ?? Are they afraid ??

Coincidence that there is no money for the Bills ---- i'd say NOT !!!!!

This is your chance. Channel your inner Bob Woodward and deepthroat the nearest Bernstein. The American people have a right to know!!

  4. You have a fresh bowl, eh? You sure you should be advertising that? Oh, I forgot you mean popcorn. It's too bad I'm so late to the party. I'll try to pay closer attention for the next flareup of this pissing match.

It might be entertaining if this thread wasn't exactly like every other thread started by J8. J8 continues to adopt positions that are nearly indefensible out of his desire to be the smartest kid in class, gets attacked on all sides, back tracks and qualifies his initial argument into a tiny little box, then accuses everyone of obfuscating, conflating, and equivocating, before asserting that no one is intelligent enough to understand his arguments and then declares total victory.

Sorry, I forgot the step where he declares that the board has no right to scrutinize his outlandish claims unless said claim totally encapsulates his greater nebulous point.

Its the same basic formula every time.

  5. I can manage that. It would be a good sacrifice.

Thats the spirit. If we just wish, pray and hope for change rather than do our part, well, than we're no better than the libs.

On a separate note, have you considered Rage-oholics Anonymous?

  6. Would it really matter to us if all non photosynthesizing life on earth besides humans, pigs, cows and certain bacteria went extinct? Not saying that should be policy, but I can not think of a reason the human race could not carry on.

Sheep are also highly necessary. You don't want a bunch of horny Scotsmen running amok. That could be a serious threat to human survival.

  7. You know what's funny?

I'm old enough to remember a neo-nazi march through Skokie, Illinios, where the do gooders argued that the scum had the right to march and that no harm should come to them because their right to march was protected by a faded document written by wrinkly men in the 18th century. I disliked the ratinale on a personal basis, but I accepted it as the

    FRIGGIN LAW OF THIS LAND

What the F is wrong with you people? We didn't escape the crap of Europe only to have that crap follow us here.

    I HATE Illinois Nazis!

  8. "I'm out to dress provactively" does not equate to "I am going to dress in a way that makes people's blood boil."

Actually, it does. Dressing provocatively is a serious offense and punishable by law under Sharia.

I agree with all of the above. But if you exercise your right to free speech by setting up a protest at my child's funeral, I will punch you in the face. And I'll face the consequences however they fall. This guy set out to anger people and succeeded. Sometimes you get punched for that. To me, there's a far cry between getting punched for being a douche in search of trouble and being beaten, shot, hand-cuffed, etc. for being a douche.

Problem is, the assailant did not face the consequences and theres no indication that the victim set out to instigate. He didn't burst into Friday prayer dressed as Zombie Mohamed, he was dressed up on Halloween and doing nothing more than walking down a street. Prove to me that he was in search of trouble without going full circle and suggesting that dressing as Mohamed is searching for trouble because certain people are incapable of self control.

  9. Setting aside the stupid judge, if you set out to be an offensive jerkoff, succeed in being an offensive jerkoff, and get punched in the face for being what you set out to be, you got what was coming to you.

Under the law, beating up offensive jerkoffs is not allowed but I'm OK with it.

Last I checked our legal system doesn't blame rape victims for dressing provocatively or blame assualt victims for walking in the wrong part of town. In these cases we don't justify the perpetrators actions because they are simply incapable of showing restraint. I am a big fan of common sense, but failing to exercise caution does not justify violence. I'm sure there were equally pissed off Catholics who did not appreciate the zombie papacy. Had someone assualted the undead pope do you think the ruling would have been the same?

Apparently the courts in Mechanicsburg believe that Muslim's are incapable of exercising self control when they feel insulted. Either that or they believe Sharia has precedence over U.S. law. Either way, I'm sure judge Chamberlain did the right thing by appeasing the man who is uncomfortable by the sight of the zombie prophet. If history is any indicator, then I am certain that this strategy will prevent a larger conflict down the road.

This whole freedom of speech phenomenon means you will occassionally come across certain views which you find insulting or even reprehensible. Thats the price of admission to participate in this global society. Our radical friends need to understand that. If they don't like our rules, too bad. No one is forcing them to come to the U.S.

  10. Incidentally even without reliance on that singular quote, I would argue a cumulative/aggregate effect scenario wherein a decision made ON ONE DAY would affect the profit or loss ON THAT SAME DAY. It's the idea that all things financial exist on a continuum.

And noone was conflating "announcement" with "decision." "Announcement" in that context was just one of a thousand different decisions that could have been used by way of example. Tom said a decision on one day couldn't affect such and such the same day. I countered by saying that if a CEO announced _______, that decision, that move, that activity could have profit and loss impact on that same day.

But now that you know that you can't change my mind about whether or not a business decision made one day can change the profit and loss for that same day, any one else want to throw a few more thoughts, ideas, opinions, or insuls on THAT point so that we can re-direct back to the topic's full scope?

So back to your original post, you present the position position that "businessmen", whatever the hell that means, make bad presidents. In support of that claim you: completely over simplified and mischaracterized the nature and challenges of business; for some reason you included some off the cuff comment from Iacocca which admittedly has no bearing and does not encapsulate your point (and confuses equity with P&L); cited several other "businessmen" who have been lack luster presidents as if all businessmen have similar abilities and characteristics; and then listed a few reasons (lack of a hometown) that might make it difficult for Romney to win in a general election; and all the while ignored his actual political experience.

  11. How?

I believe he's suggesting that decisions and announcements will be reflected in stock prices, which is predicated upon perfectly efficient markets where every company has strong analyst coverage and investors are fundamentally rational and businesses operate with total transparency and totally disregards privately held companies, and then makes the leap that stock prices are affecting P&L, which is false.

  12. If anyone remembers 2004, they'll realize that this 2012 campaign cycle is following a similar trend. The parallel is damn near exact.

But I can address similarities later, if anyone cares to taste that particular vintage of wine.

Concern# 1 - There is something that is not being discussed about Romney and his interest in leading this country. He is a business man. Was he a successfull businessman? Yes! But just like sports and athletics requires a discussion of an individual's skill and how well they translate to different levels, me thinks politics can benefit from a similar discussion.

Ok so in business, you make a decision at 9 am, and by close of business you've either turned a profit or you haven't. Government doesn't operate that transparently. Will that corporate characteristic, if true, be an impediment to Romney's and by extension, the country's, success? Lee Iaccoa thought so.

Alright, so, where the !@#$ is Romney from again? Michigan, New Hampshire, Utah, Massachusetts? Does he really live anywhere? There was a time when the American upper class had roots to a community. Mitt Romney lives in some ruthless neo-cosmopolitan world where he has no roots or attachment to any particular community. Attachment to a community fosters a desire to improve the community. Romney has been so damn opportunistic that what he has gained in socio-economic stature, he has lost in connection, affiliation, familiarity, and membership.

Romney is an automaton. He is a technocrat. Nothing about him bespeaks much in the way of allegiance. It shows in his equivocations (oops, evolutions) throughout his political history. I sincerely worry about that.

He's certainly not a Norwegian Telemark Raider. Leo Marks can tell you that.

Concern #2 - business folks just don't seem to show well as President. Harding, Carter, Hoover, and W were pathetically bad presidents. H.W. wasn't "bad" but he wasn't memorable either - he was a one and done; this even though he had a successful war and a crumbling Berlin Wall on his side.

I wonder if concerns #1 and #2 are related. I wonder if there are attributes of a business owner which makes for unsuccessful politics on a national level. Academics seem to do fairly well. Business owners, not so much.

Can't seem to narrow this thought. It may require debate to focus it. Eh, just rantings I guess....

Business doesn't operate that transparently either. Especially not the line of work that Romney specialized in, VC/PE. Taking over a failing company, identifying the root problems, developing feasible solutions, and more importantly, implementing your vision certainly doesn't occur in an 8 hour day. It takes years to realize results and requires tremendous foresight.

You've identified a few reasons as to why he might not win the nomination or the election, but I don't think any of the above is relflective of his ability to tackle the biggest turnaround play out there. Not all "businessmen" are created equal.

  13. Because they wake up earlier.

And they wake up earlier because of the "early bird specials." I'm sure you're thinking waht so special about cheap pancakes and eggs, but thats just what they want you to believe. Ever go to one of those early bird places around 5AM? I have, and theres not a geezer to be seen. And thats because they're not at the Country Kithen Buffet for the corned beef hash, they're in the back going wild. The back room at a Denny's looks less like a bingo parlor and more like a scene out of Eyes Wide Shut, except replace the elegant mansion with a dirty supply room. Its a booze and drug fueled wrinkly free-for-all back there. After partying into the wee hours of the afternoon you'd be thinking about bed too.

  14. Actually, one of the stocks he claims to own (Kinder-Morgan, I think. Wasn't Apple or Home Depot, at any rate) has a 5%+ dividend rate.

    5% is hardly irrelevant.

I noticed that as well. I can only guess that his dividends are insignificant opinion is based on the fact that the dividend for 2 shares of KMP comes out to a little less than $10, therefore a 5.2% yield is negligible, or something asinine like that.

  15. Yeah but Apple is different. They aren't an evil corporation like Big Oil®, Big Banks, or Big Pharma®. Apple helps the 99% tweet and blog about the injustices of the 1%.

Not true dev. As Dave and Co. pointed out, Apple has gotten rich off of exploiting the Chinese. Apple forces their Chinese laborers to work 60 hours a week sometimes (gasp), and pays them better than their peers (the horror), and that obviously leads to suicide!!! But somehow Dave has been able to put his outrage aside as long as Apple continues to beat earnings.

But you do have a point. Apple enriched the world with things people cannot live without, like iPods and smartphones. Where would we be without those developments? The oil companies supplying cheap energy and the raw materials for nearly every product we consume are crooks. The only firms worse than the oil companies are those bastards curing diseases.
