  1. The other tidbit that makes the South win so beautiful is the report I read stating that the North squad had more and better pro prospects. This tells me that with the higher level of talent we should be getting (because our roster really leaves a lot to be desired), there is hope for the future.

  2. 1. Nick Fairley DT Auburn

Fairley is a freaking beast. If you've watched Auburn at all this year you know what I'm talking about. The guy is great against the run (he has literally body slammed some RBs this year) but can also get to the QB with either his brute strength or an assortment of pass rush moves. He could play 3-4 DE and move inside and play DT next to KW in our 4 man fronts (I'm assuming we will be running our hybrid 3-4/4-3 next year). Nobody is a sure thing but this guy seems pretty close. On the downside he does lose his cool sometimes and a lot of people consider him a dirty player. I think he would bring some much needed attitude and skill to our defensive front.

    2. Aldon Smith DE Mizzou

Yeah this is a homer pick but its a legit one. Word around Columbia, MO is Aldon Smith will be declaring for the 2011 draft. This guy is a freak, he's a poor man's Bowers as he isn't quite as stout against the run but is every bit of the pass rusher Bowers is (thats right I just said that). Again, I'm assuming we are going to continue to run a hybrid defense and he would add some much needed pass rush in passing situations. Aldon was slowed this year by fracturing his tibia but came back after three games and is now 100% healthy. If he were to stay in school he could potentially be a top 10 pick in 2012. Even so its very possible after the combine he'll vault into the second half of the first round but for now I think there is a chance he'll be around in the second and could be a huge pick for the Bills.

Here is what draftcountdown.com's Scott Wright wrote about Smith:

    3. Colin McCarthy ILB Miami

McCarthy is a tackling machine who is very stout in the Middle and plays with great instincts. He's not a great athlete but he should be one of the safer picks at LB in this years draft. The guy makes up for a lot of his athletic short-comings with his great instincts. Kind of reminds me of Brandon Spikes who the Pats drafted last year.

    4. Rashad Carmichael CB Va Tech

Super Athletic corner with great ball skills. Can lose focus at times.

    4. John Moffit OG Wisc

Big Strong Guard who has had a great year blocking for Wisconsin's potent rushing attack. Could possibly move outside to RT but will more than likely compete for the RG spot or at worst provide great depth to line.

    5. Roy Helu RB Neb

Tough Runner with good power and burst. Doesn't have elite speed but would be good insurance policy if something were to happen to Fred.

    6.Chris Hairston OT Clemson

Athletic enough to play either Tackle position. Probably better suited for RT, has had some knee problems.

    7. Andre Smith TE Va Tech

Good Blocking TE with some athletic ability.

    Flame Away!

This is a good draft, but I really think we need to draft a QB in rounds 3-5 to develop behind Fitz.

  3. I just don't see any desirable QBs being around when we use our second pick. Too many teams need QBs. Not saying we need to draft one with the third pick overall, but I would like to see us draft the best defensive player and then trade up in the first to grab one of the 2nd tier QBs (Newton or Gabbert would be best case in that scenario). Let Fitz play and continue to play unless he gives Gailey a reason to start our new QB.

4 QBs gone in the first 10 pics

There are some serious reaches in that mock. I know that having a solid QB is important, but not so important as to pass up quality players at other positions, which we so desparately need.

  4. Now i know many of you dont want him. I myself dont too.. But we all love football and love to hear what going on around the NFL.so im sharing this with everyone on here.. anyways, what do you guys think about this? what if the bills did give denver a second pick for orton. would you be pretty mad about it or happy? I think i be pretty upset, since we need players for our D..but i dont have nothing against Orton. i wouldnt mind to see him in buffalo to be honest, but not for our second round pick

Thank you, no. We have one Fitzpatrick, so a second is not needed.

  5. Yea, I don't think anyone is disputing that Luck is the consensus #1 overall pick if he comes out. The problem is that the Bills are picking #3.

It's conceivable that Luck could fall to us at #3. Carolina has a ton of money in Clausen and a host of other needs. Denver won't spend another #1 on a QB with Tebow. Then Luck falls to us at #3. If that happens, you know Nix will get a lot of phone calls.

  6. Whitner and Wilson are gone. McGee keeps getting injured and might be done. McKelvin is too inconsistent to be anything close to shut-down. Scott and Florence's contract are coming up.

Defenses are now being built from the secondary - up. Get ready, it's happening.

And Youboty's contract is up as well, not that it matters much. Honestly, I hope to see a reasonably priced FA in the mix.

  7. Any player drafted in April won't be signed until a new CBA is in place. That CBA will include a rookie scale/cap so I don't think that has anything to do with Gabbert's decision.

I keep hearing that the rookie cap wasn't supposed to go into effect intil 2012.

  8. QB - We finally have our franchise QB in Fitzpatrick. In a couple of years this team will be poised to win a Superbowl with this guy leading the way. I truly believe that. He's Buffalo's version of Drew Brees. Though he's not quite as accurate as Brees, he still averaged almost two TDs a game with virtually no substantial running game to speak of, and no TE. Tough, smart, throws TD passes through small windows…what's not to like? Enough with the insane talk of Cam Newton.

Receivers - We have receivers coming out of our yin yang. Johnson, Evans, Parrish, Nelson, Roosevelt

RBs - We have two really good backs that are the perfect complimentary combination of power and finesse.

TEs - This is something we need to become a real powerhouse team.

O Line - Solid group that needs one or two more behemoths away from a dominating group.

D Line - We still need two solid players here to become dominating. This is where the 1st pick in the draft can fill one of those holes.

LBs - We need two solid players here also to have a solid group.

DBs - We are set here. Once we can get a few playmakers up front, these guys can start getting some easy interceptions.

That's about seven players away, seems like it's doable that we can find 4 of them this offseason.

Special Teams - This was a major disappointment, but this shouldn't be all that hard to become a positive force with all of the skilled return players that we have.

Coaching - Chan Gailey has done a great job this season. Even though the record didn't show it, I see a team that's poised to take the next step. Players know their rolls, the locker room is gelling, you can see a team with a foundation to make a big rebound in 2011. The DC position could use a substantial upgrade. I just don't think Edwards can pull the same weight on defense that Gailey does with the offense.

Final Note - This team needs to concentrate on getting a few playmakers on defense, a couple of behemoths for the O line to get the running game going, teach the skill guys to stop fighting for extra yards and hold onto the ball instead of getting it stripped from them, and to rip the ball from the opposing players. Stripping players of the ball is a league wide practice that will only continue to grow in popularity and the Bills need to start teaching their players to get down on the ground when they are surrounded. Getting two extra yards is not worth it fellas.

I feel like we finally have a foundation of players. I feel like it's the mid-eighties again! Here's hoping that breakout "we have something serious brewing again" year comes in 2011!

With all due respect, I believe you are a touch optimistic. We won't go anywhere until we can beat the Jets backups.

  9. Well i just read on BB.com that the Bills resigned Shawn Merriman for next year. So with the emergence of Moats this year & i believe that signing Poz will or at least should be a priority . Then throw in Batten coming back off of IR .

    Batten - Merriman - Poz - Moats - ? should make a pretty good LB corp !

I know that's not the position as far as the way i have them in the line above but who else might be a decent fit ?? Kelsay played better toward the end of the year & wouldn't be bad but i know what Bills fans have written about him this year . So at best i think he's a good depth player .

Merriman will have a whole offseason & more to get healthy , & if he can get back to even half of what he was he will be an upgrade,

just in his leadership alone !!

So fill in the blanks or line them up the way you would if you were the D coach . But i think our line backing corp will be much better next year than this !!!!

Isn't this a lineup of one ILB and 3 OLBs? I don't mean to offend, but I don't understand this.

  10. Ugh.

    I don't know.

I really hope Gailey isn't what Dick Jauron was to the offense with the defense.

Why don't we just pick a defense and stick with it?

Is George Edwards even capable of running a multiple look scheme effectively?

I think it would help if he had more talent to work with. Ten years of bad personnel decisions have made our roster a disaster.

    Maybin's position with team "tenuous"

    http://blogs.buffalonews.com/billboard/

That's coach speak for one more bad preseason, and he's outta here.

  11. He will never make round 2. He will be gone in the top 10 picks especially if Luck stays in college.

He is a great fit for a team that is improving and he can sit for one year. That would normally make him a late round 1 or early 2, but times have changed.

He would not have declared if the feedback he got was later than round one.

Maybe the pending rookie cap had something to do with it.

  12. It is clear to see on the Buffalo Bills they just do not have any talent. The Star of your team defensively is a 5th round pick 4 years ago. The offensive star is a 7th round pick 3 years ago. If you asked Bills fans who the next best players on the team were. It would be 2 undrafted WO in Nelson, and Jones. We are devoid of a top 5 (some will argue that we do not have a top 10) talent at any position. Not one position on the Buffalo Bills has a top tier player in it. Sorry folks Kyle Williams is not a top tier DT. Played well in some games this year. But Defensive very unsuccessful. The draft has produced nothing for the Buffalo Bills over the last several years. Are team is filled with average football players. Nothing else. Except on the Defensive line we are very much below average. The cubbard is very bare ladies and gentlemen. When other teams game plan is to stop Kyle Williams and Stevie Johnson that says a lot.

I agree with what you said, but I would like to add that freee agency has not been all that productive, either.

  13. I for one have seen enough of Brohm now to know why Green Bay give up on him. Watching him today brought back terible memories of #5. Whether you like Fitzpatrick or now, you gotta now know there was a good reason he was playing and Brohm was sitting.

Yes I have, thank you. Even Brown looked better.
