The only way I see us taking Coples is if we plug him into a role like Wade Phillips did with Mario Williams.
-
I was just reading this post and came across your comment and it instantly brought me right back down to reality. There will be no big free agent signings in Buffalo. But I guess we can dream......... Maybe we'll get Peyton and Wayne?!?!?!
I like what we're doing now by building through the draft. That way, when our own FAs are due for new contracts, the money will be available.
-
You were right, I was wrong.
I didn't think that he had the size to make an impact, but from what I've seen he is the real deal.
I saw him listed at 6-3, 250, before the draft. That seams to be a reasonable size for a 4-3 LB,

I was thrilled when Denver took Miller, because I wanted Dareus on the roster badly. I'm still happy with the pick.
-
I looked at the roster and thought that 5 wins was the most we would win. We definitely need to add some talent.
-
They need another CB as well. I just don't see McGee returning.
-
Assuming, of course, that there is a plan to actually go after free agents....
-
This is about what it would take to move from #8 to #1 this year. Would you do it? I would.
No. By virtue of the fact that we are looking at another single-digit pick, it should be apparent that we have too many needs.
-
I want BG3 first but if not then a legit LT that they can put there and not have to worry about for ten years
Obviously they need defense we all know that but if one of the stud LT's is there they have to take him
Over a desparately needed pass-rushing edge-setting OLB?
-
Don't we have a 6th-rounder from Seattle for Marshawn Lynch?
-
Oh, well. He stays. Personally, I applaud his decision to work towards that degree. Honestly, do we have the supporting cast for him to be able to make that much of a difference? I say no.
-
Count me as in. You guys are just scared of winning.
And you guarantee we would win because...?
-
Gailey seemed to use Chandler more this year than he as uded TEs in the past. I like Schiancoe, but with 5 TEs already in town I think we will go the least expensive route and bring them all back to camp.
-
i think you will change your mind after this weeks game vs denver and you see how Miller and Elvis just run by Pears and Bell with ease
Bills need a legit LT...i understand they need LBs too but i dont think you pass on a legit LT that can start for the next decade
We also need OLBs to set the edge. Willis McGahee et al will be running by Kelsay and whoever else lines up at OLB with ease.
-
Now, try convincing him to think about coming here.
-
Flame away but consider this.
He brings fire and passion. Surround him with a strong offensive team and keep Wanny in place and I think that could change the soft culture that has been around 1 Bills Drive since Wade left.
Since this would be his first HC gig he might consider coming to a place such as Buffalo, but woudln't command a salary like Gruden, Billick or Cowher (guys who are older and wouldn't come anyways).
Enough with the "give Chan a chance" crap. The reason I am not sold on him or Edwards is that they are absolutely unable to adapt, in game or between games.
It has been the same story week in and week out. Change has to come or they risk not selling out November games on top of December games next year.
So you want a 3-4 DC to be our head coach, but with a 4-3 DC?
-
Its a little late but watched the Marshall Fiu game and there were a few prospects and futures that looked good;
DE Tourek Williams 6'4" 255
Like this kid a lot was always bringing the heat and disrupting the back field, had nice rip moves and took on double teams and still made tackles. Looks way bigger than 255 but maybe because he was so jacked. not sure if he is coming out but wouldn't mind him after 3.
Can you see this guy as an OLB?
-
Actually I hope he can bring in better coaches faster!
The only way he does that is if he fires Chan. I think CG is the one who makes the decisions on the coaching staff.

Per ESPN Insider:
1. Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
2. Rams: Matt Kalil, OT, USC
3. Vikings: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
4. Browns: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
5. Jaguars: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
6. Buccaneers: Dre Kikpatrick, CB, Alabama
7. Redskins: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
8. Dolphins: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
9. Panthers: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
10. Bills: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
What say you?
I think McShay is off on this. We have servicable starters (at best) at OT, but we have a crying need at OLB.
-
One does not have to be a starter to make significant contributions, or have his loss felt should he go on IR.

Last year we gave up 4.8 ypa against the run.
This year we have so far given up 4.8 ypa against the run.
Last year we were dead last in total yards given up. This year we look to have a few teams worse than we are.
I don't believe it's much an improvement if we give up the same number of yards every time the other guy tries.to run, and have fewer attempts against the run for some reason.
If we aren't dead last in the league this year, we can certainly see dead last from our current position.
We have not yet done enough drafting (especially at OLB) to stop the bleeding.
-
The goal of any offense is to exploit the opposing Defense's weakness. Ours was run defense. Houston's was pass defense--they were the worst in the league. In total, they gave up slightly more points than the Bills D last season.
Your stuck arguing from a losing position--you cannot alter the fact that the Houston D sucked last year and now they are a top D, only because of a change at DC. And you can't convincingly argue Edwards's failure is mainly due to injuries because when he had all his healthy players, he still produced a bad defense this season, his second in the system.
The change of DC AND the change of system AND the drafting of better players in the past.
-
Last year the Bills were the same D scheme (4-3/3-4, whatever it is) as they are this year--and they were better than the Houston D in total yards and points (i.e., they were not "better" than ours).
They say it is a poor craftsman who blames his tools.
Or, to quote my son's favorite movie: Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps!
The first goal in any scheme is to stop the run, and I believe we were last in the league.
-
Look, this defense was giving up tons of points and yards when everyone was healthy. Phillips's "talent" was amongst the worst in the league a year ago.
Last year they were in a 4-3, were they not? Not to mention the fact that there defense was better than ours.

Isn't it a touch early to pass judgement on Sheppard? He's doing well for a rookie third-rounder.
