    Not high on Justin Jefferson?

What's not to like about the best WR in the NFL, who is only 24 and wins on every level of the field?

He will probably cost almost as much as MHJ in trade and will be extremely expensive vs a limited contract for a top draft pick.

Of course you’re paying for the certainty that this player is for real in the NFL.

I hear you both that defense is a question mark.  But then, last season with losing Edmunds and not having a clear cut MLB or Von Miller to start the season and with Tre White as a giant ? based on the end of 2022, I thought our defense was iffy and our offense would have to carry us (which, I thought it could)

Turned out it was the other way around - our defense was solid until we lost Tre, DaQuan and Milano, with Floyd playing great in place of Miller and Tre back to his old form.  Our offense was tenuous with splendid plays offset by miscues.

I think the D will be O.K. provided Milano is back to form and we get SOMETHING from Von Miller besides interviews and podcasts.  Both the guys we brought in at S (Rapp and Edwards) can play, so can Douglas and Benford.  Injuries are a huge question right now, as we're thin behind the starters.

I guess from that, my learning is I have more faith in McDermott and Beane to bring forward a defense that works no matter what and to add what they need if they don't, than I do in them to devote enough resources and have the right OC and players in place on offense.

My gut says we need a better D to do better in the regular season (Pats game, Eagles game, Broncos game, etc.) and better O to go deeper in the playoffs.

I find this baffling. Help me understand. The Bills have plugged in a variety of guys over the McDermott era and have been more or less the same. They’ve played extended periods without Poyer, Milano, Tre, Von, Hyde, etc… The scheme has had them more or less the same defense regardless of who is out there. They play a conservative zone where they try to avoid big plays and keep the game close. Why do we think, with most of the same guys (minus Poyer, Floyd & Hyde plus Milano) that they will be significantly different? Sean McDermott’s defenses are always about the same. Explain why I should be scared? If the answer is “pass rush” they may need to generate more with the blitz but outside of Floyd (who disappeared late in the year) what’s changed?

The offense has to replace their number 1 and number 2 WRs from last year (not to mention their 4th & 5th). Those 2 guys account for like 250 targets. They added a special teamer and a gadget guy. Why are we comfortable that it’ll work with no boundary WRs on the roster except Shorter and Hollins? The Bills still need 200ish targets from guys not on the roster. It’ll be so easy to defend them right now with no outside threats. There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between the need for offense vs. the need for defense right now.

Help me understand how you’re comfortable with the offense but not the defense?

He just didn’t think it through like you did.

    Josh on Steph's exit:

"I shared a text with him and got one back, and just thanking him for everything that he did for me and always have a spot in my heart for him. And I'll always love that guy like a brother. And I wish him nothing but the best."

This, to me, is very, very telling.

Josh does take the classy high road and claims he will always "love that guy like a brother"...

But... he merely texted Steph to say thanks, goodbye and all the best. No phone call. No get-together, just a text. The choice of a text to say goodbye speaks volumes to me as to how they are no longer (were they ever?) really close.

And Josh's follow-up comments on being a better leader are also telling:

"I think it's an opportunity for myself to grow as a leader. And to bring along some of these young guys and new guys that we've brought into our team. And that's an opportunity, frankly, that I'm very excited about. It's something that's going to be very challenging, but I'm very willing to do it."

I personally believed Steph assumed the alpha role on the team's offense and Josh deferred to Steph. It was my hope that with Steph gone that Josh could then take the alpha role and it looks like that's his plan. I think this aspect of the trade will be a huge element in our success going forward — Josh will take no ***** from any WR and he will be the one barking orders and telling other players what to do, how it is. He will no longer feel compelled to ensure a high number of targets to a player who feels "senior" to him.

I guarantee you we will never again see another player yelling at Josh during a game and Josh looking away like a scolded child. Never. And I believe we will spread the ball around a lot more going forward, and this is a good thing.

Part of if is just maturation but I honestly thought Josh was too deferential to Steph in the past. Josh being the leader on offense will be huge for him and this team.

I wouldn’t say Diggs took over the alpha role as much as he held Allen back from being the unquestionable leader. And to the detriment of the team.

Sort of two alphas clashing. Even during 2022 training camp videos while Allen and Diggs were goofing around there was always this subtle “walk on eggshells” feeling around Diggs. Like an underlying anxiety from everybody about him.

The other thing is that the 2017 veterans are gone. Hyde, Poyer, and White. They held some seniority over Allen.

    It’s Allen’s team now.

The mindless comments about Josh not getting better is predictable coming from a Bills hater like yourself. Would you be satisfied with 44 total TDs from the QB on the team you root for. How about 6 straight wins to pull out the division, while Hurts, Prescott, Tua, Herbert and Burrow were imploding or out for the season. Josh has the most total TD the last two seasons. He doesn’t miss games and he wins divisions. Any troll would acknowledge his greatness.  If he’s top 2 or 3 QB in the NFL that’s enough for Bills fans. The loss to the Chiefs was on Diggs,, our banged up defense , our suddenly unreliable kicker, not Josh. Bills should have at least gone into OT.

Probably a burner account from the Whaley regime.

You can try to attack my character, but that just makes it clear you've run out of arguments. The difference between me and people like you is that I back up my arguments. Do you even watch the Bills? Josh peaked in 2020 if you've been watching the games, and the stats back it up.

Josh hasn't meaningfully improved in the last 4 years. You think he's all of a sudden going to start getting better now?

This is just a load of nonsense. We're hating Diggs now because he doesn't engage with the media? lol. ok.

You know, I have NEVER seen a good post out of you. And that’s impressive considering how much you post.

Something doesn’t feel right. Are you a Jets or Pats fan? You have that attitude.

Edit: or maybe a burner account of somebody antagonistic toward the team or Allen?

The price would be so steep that the Bears wouldn’t be able to put a team around him.

I don’t think they have anything they could possibly offer. But I’m more bullish on Allen than even those on this board.

I would offer them futures. Allen in 10 years for xyz assets. Haha that’s if I absolutely had to.

I can’t wrap my head around worthy. Super fast 40 but he’s not a one trick pony as he had 3 years of nice production. Still I don’t know if I could draft him early??

Maybe I’m the only one but watching his highlights he doesn’t seem as fast as his 40. Legette looks faster than him.

Does anybody else think his game speed is not as fast as his 40 time?

The sad part is when Josh is an MVP candidate again, the media and his critics are more likely to say that they were wrong about his weapons being bad when Josh makes Kincaid, Shakir, a rookie, Samuel, etc look great this year.  They are more likely to say it’s because Josh is loaded with the best young weapons in the game than they are to give Josh the amount of credit he will deserve.

Josh 4 year average is 5100 yards and 44 TDs, and they have done everything in their power to discredit Josh and make others the reason for that like Diggs.  Never seen anything like the criticism he gets.  It’s like the media and critics have made him a villain because he hasn’t eclipsed Mahomes.  It’s insane, especially for a guy a classy, likable, and charitable as Josh.

When this happens you have to ask what they’re all so afraid of.

Why do so many Chiefs fans come here instead of visa versa? What truths are they so desperate to shoot down?

The answer is that they are terrified of what Allen COULD become if everything finally starts to go his way.

I’ll say it again like I’ve said before, we don’t have the cap space for Aiyuk or Higgins . No point in discussing

With the cap creativity out there, I find it hard to believe. Especially with Tre opening $10M in June. And restructuring options we haven't used yet.

And right after everyone said it was impossible that we trade Diggs.

  12. 3 hours ago, TheBeaneBandit said:

This. We get the young WR hitting his prime again and then even draft the pretty substantial Gabe Davis upgrade at 28 or possible trade up in the second. Don't worry the Bills can still rotate TBD legend Shakir in for the rookie at times but let's be real here Shakir is a number 3. Sorry not sorry.

That's what the "cost control" people are missing. There's a reason why rookies are cost controlled. It's because half of them bust out of the league in 3 years, including top picks.

They look at guys like Nacua and Jefferson and assume we can get one of those guys at #28 ("Beane BETTER hit on those picks or else he NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLESDFGNSFGDKJNSFDKGNDFSDFKSFMSWFW#$%@#%$#%$#").  But when was the last time we hit on an offensive pick like that on year 1? Even Kincaid didn't have as strong a rookie year as those guys. It's not common.

Trade for a top young guy so we can still win the division this upcoming year, use next year's cap space for the contract, and draft a solid WR2/3 in late first or 2nd round for the future. That's the right move.

  13. 4 hours ago, SoonerBillsFan said:

It's possible.  We trade for him look for us to go DE round one or trade back.

If I could get Aiyuk for a 2nd next year, I trade back from 28 into round 2 and pick up a 3rd.

I think that’s what the move would be. Aiyuk for a 2nd and then trade back #28 to the 2nd round and draft McConkey.

Knock yourself out, buddy. This is what I found in 3 minutes of searching.

Everybody here knows how much Allen has been criticized about being a turnover machine despite those interceptions usually not having an effect on the Bills winning games. Their record for the past 5 years speaks for itself.

What’s really funny is you judging me because of a disagreement on a message board.

None of the things you originally said are in there.

Nobody disagrees that Allen has been criticized. They just rightfully called out the made up things you said.

    Nice sleight of hand though.
