  1. He has success everywhere he gas been and has a lot more experience than any of the other candidates. He has a charm to him as well and this would make for good press.

One knock on him is his age but in watching the Sugar Bowl broadcast he is still very engaged. He might be able to drag the much younger Tim Tebow in as an offensive coordinator.

    Mods: please pin this. Thanks.

This isn't a real post is it??? It's New Years, not April Fools!

  2. Why is that your worst fear?

There doesn't have to be a power play. Schwartz did an outstanding job as DC. He has prior NFL head coaching experience. He is bound to have a chip on his shoulder if he isn't picked. Anyone would - doesn't make it a power play, if you feel you have the talent and the experience and a job opens, you're going to want the job

He is under contract to Buffalo for the next year at least (2 years? I google-searched and couldn't find this) but such contracts seem to mean little if a coach asks to be released. There are a lot of coaching vacancies and I'd expect Schwartz to be asked to interview for 1 or 2.

He will definitely be p/o'ed at Buffalo if he isn't interviewed seriously here. If he isn't asked to interview elsewhere or seriously considered when he does, it would give him a message as to how he was seen that might keep him as a DC a while longer.

Hopefully he learned from his tenure in Detroit and from Marrone's behavior, how to do better 2nd time around if he does get the opportunity. I think keeping a poor DC marred his Detroit tenure just as keeping a poor OC marred Marrone's time with Buffalo.

Couldn't have said it any better. Love the guy as a DC. NO WAY do I want him to be the Bills HC. We need an Offensive minded HC to get that side of the ball going again. I think just about anyone can come in here with the talent level on D and make it work.

  3. I don't know what is really going on behind the scenes but if what Polian said was the reason(s) why he didn't come aboard then I feel a little bit betrayed. The franchise is in a very vulnerable position and he doesn't want to be a part of the solution??! It's not like Ralph is around and would handle anything, right or wrong, that would come up. We got a brand new owner with no NFL experience or know how to face the adversaries that are facing us. I wouldn't want to be a teammate to a guy that would run and hide because there was too much "heavy lifting" to be done. I'm very disappointed to say the least by this philosophy. I have always been appreciative to Polian for all that he accomplished with this franchise but for him to say the things that he said I don't feel that he is a true Buffalo guy. By his own admission he said that that Pegula treated him with the utmost respect and as far as the money goes I can't imagine that ESPN is paying him more than he would of gotten from the Bills. Anyways we don't need him, either you're for us or you're against us. From what I'm hearing and reading I don't think that I can ever feel the same about Polian unless something else comes to the surface and justify why he wouldn't be all in for this franchise. At this time I have lost a lot of interest in his upcoming induction to the HOF. Like what Tim Russert would often refer to as a Bills' fan, you can knock us down but we're gonna get back up. A true Bills' fan doesn't abandon you, they stay loyal through thick or through thin, just ask Scott Norwood. In his darkest day as a player this fanbase embraced him because that's the way it's suppose to be. As of now I feel abandoned. I wonder what Tim would think and say about all this if he was still around.

Don't feel betrayed. I'm ecstatic that he isn't coming back. The NFL has come and passed him by. His last drafts he was involved in are some of the worst draft classes ever. He still tries to build on potential rather than character and plays the game like it's 1984.

Glad he isn't coming. Looking forward to the future!!!

  4. Now that Orton has retired it is very uncertain who the bills starting qb will be. My prediction is a veteran qb. If I had to guess I would say Matt Moore. I Think the bills are done with EJ as a starter and I can't see them getting like a Bradford or a cutler or anyone like that. What do you guys think?

Guaranteed prediction for the Bills come the 2015 season. No Manuel or Tuel on the Roster!!!

  5.

A kid cannot become the starting quarterback at Florida State without God-given ability. He has huge potential. He was not afforded the learning curve of most first year quarterbacks. Check out the stats of Elway, Manning, Aikman as rookies. Aikman was 1-15, right? Our quarterback rose to the top of the college ranks. He was MVP of the Senior Bowl. That's where I first noticed him. He threw a TD pass to somebody, and I thought, man, this kid is a natural.

So we trade out of #8, pick up Manuel and Kiko, and EJ is thrust into the starting role on a young growing team. He struggled, but he had some really good games. The second year he had us at .500. He had a rough game against Houston and that crazy MVP candidate JJ Watt. Who didn't struggle against that guy? Marrone pulled him, and turned it over to Kyle. He gave us the best chance to win. And we finished 9-7.

EJ got to watch this all happen from a great vantage point. And I think he was humbled by the whole thing. Did he lose his athletic ability? His intelligence? His determination? No. If anything, he has developed a major chip on his shoulder.

Look at that video. He has the goods.

I am not giving up on EJ Manuel. I think he's ready to become a star.

The guy can't play NFL Football. Get over it already!!!!

Throw him on the pile with the Tebows, Glennons, and Russell's of the world.

  6. Odds are we will not find a decent veteran QB replacement for Orton to play next season. Manuel is probable as good if not better than most of the QB's that will become available this off season. The Bills can get to the next level with Manuel if and only if they put players around him that can dominate. If we can keep our defense together and get a healthy Kiko Alonzo back our defense should be dominate. Now our challenge becomes to up grade the Oline and develop a dominate running game. Build a team similar to the Baltimore team that won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer.

That was a different NFL when Dilfer won. It is now a QB league not a Defense league. Kiko in theory only brings you 1 more win. Putting you at 10-6, but that is with Orton @ QB. Manuel is not an NFL QB.

Bottom line the Bills need an NFL QB to compete for the playoffs. EJs, Tools, and Glennons WILL NOT GET YOU TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!

  7. Tampa getting the top pick will draft a QB and likely will move 2rd year QB Mike Glennon.

The Bills scouts did like Glennon and many in Tampa thought it a mistake Lovie Smith went with McCown.

He could be in the mix - also paid on rookie salary for 2 more years.

    2014 6 games 57% comp pct 10TD 6 INT 1400yrds 83 passer rating (16 games = 27TD 15INT 3600yrds)

    2013 13 games 60% comp pct 19TD 9 INT 2600yrds 83 passer rating (16 games = 21TD 10 INT 3200yrds)

Stop grasping at Straws! This is guy belongs on the pile with Tebow and the rest of the like.

  8. I know he was one strike away and all, but this guy may well be one of the dozen greatest RBs of all time when it's all said and done (yes, I'm reacting a bit to his amazing 79 yard td run last night). Obviously, hindsight is 20-20, but we got virtually nothing for him and - with apologies to Fred - he's at least twice as good as any Bill offensive player since Kelly, Thomas, and Wolford. The last guy who came even remotely close was Moulds. And of course Lynch was pretty darn good his first two seasons with the Bills.

Watching the Bills pathetic running game this season, I can onlly say grr ...

I have no idea why he was traded. I remember being so pissed off when we drafted Spiller in 2010. I just knew they were going to do something stupid and trade one of the RBs. These morons trade the best one and get garbage in return.

  9. It was depressing to watch the Offensive line get pushed around. New blood is needed.

Agreed. That was one of their worst performances I seen just by the eye test. One would think Marrone would have atleast made certain we have a strong OL since that was his specialty. It has been historically bad this year for some reason. No running game to speak of. No OL and no Running game doesn't help matters at all. The Bills have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball this offseason.

  10. Actually if we HAVE to lose Schwartz, this may be the season to do it. Rex Ryan will certainly be available soon after the final game, and he at least would be a suitable substitute. Don't get me wrong, I don't want Schwartz to go but if he does ..... just sayin'

Agreed. I do not want to see him go, but I certainly believe he will leave if the right situation is available for him to grab onto. It is also possible for Rex to get another chance with one of these teams as well, even though he has failed with the Jets the last 2 seasons or so.

  11. I was 9-12 years old for the Super Bowl losses and cried my eyes out after every one. I suffered like many of you for these last 15 years, feeling like our team is meaningless and the joke of the NFL.

Over the years I have slowly evolved from a Bills optimist into a Bills pessimist. Right now I think it is highly doubtful we make the playoffs, but if we can beat the Browns I am willing to believe.

Just beat the Browns at home. A team you should have beaten last year but ended up losing to. Just like you should have beaten the Chiefs the last two times but ended up losing. Just beat the Browns at home. That is all I ask. Please God beat the Browns so I have a meaningful game in December!

This is a game we should win. Just win it. Don't do anything stupid like untimely fumbles or secondary miscommunications. Just go out and beat a team that you are better than, and battling for a playoff spot, at home. It is time to stop blowing these ones. Just win this freaking game.

Exactly. Just win. I don't care if it's by a point. It shouldn't be. I firmly believe we are better than the Browns. I am expecting a win. Just Win Baby!!!

  12. How can I put this.......

The days of an open air stadium is quickly going the way of a Beta VCR, Projection Screen TV's and Blockbuster video stores. The replacement is multi use stadiums for year round use. Its the only way to pay off a Billion dollar stadium.

Now we do have a lot of fans that love sitting outside, tailgating in below zero weather, freezing your rear end off in a stadium that will most likely be half full this Sunday. With this snow storm the Buffalo Bills will most likely meet the Jets without one single day of practice and a LOSS will pretty much eliminate the Bills from the playoffs.

If you are not convinced by now that Buffalo needs a DOME........... the SNOW Gods will drop another 3 feet in Orchard Park sometime today as a reminder.........BUILD A DOME STADIUM YOU DUMMY, THIS IS BUFFALO NEW YORK, NOT TAMPA BAY FLORIDA.

To the Buffalo fans that will gladly attend this weeks FREEZER BOWL.......You have my complete unwavering respect, you my friend are a diehard. :worthy:

    post-19906-0-35679900-1416477034_thumb.jpg

Yeah, build a DOME STADIUM and watch the ROOF Collapse! :wallbash: Hasn't anyone been watching the news????

  13. I don't know he struck out twice with Losman and Bledsoe. Maybe he gets it right with the qb eventually. Also his winning% was below 40. You have to work at it pretty hard to be that bad.

Should have drafted Brees. What a fool!!!

  14. Unless they go on a tear in 2nd half (highly unlikely), then it's near a certainty Rex won't be coaching Jets come next season.

    Some possible candidates:

    - Rob Ryan: Don't laugh, stranger things have happened and this is the Jets

    - Bill Cowher: (my darkhorse favorite) Already in NYC for broadcasting, probably loves the big market spotlight. Think he'll like Jets core of decent players, high draft picks, and cap space

    - Darrell Bevell: Not sure why his name always comes up since Seattle is really known for defense, but it does so I'll put him here

    - Josh McDaniels: He left Bellichick before, he wants to be a head coach. But would he betray him for a division rival? Never know, these teams have a weird history of coach movements

    - Kyle Shanahan: First time in years Browns have an offense. With something to hang his hat on, just a matter of time before "the other" Shanahan gets a shot

    - Jim Schwartz: If Bills D ends up Top 3, it's possible. Last year we lost a 1-year DC after he got credit for a big move up the defensive rankings

I have high hopes they keep the same coaching staff.

  15. In hindsight. Basically, would you have trade those 4 players for Luck. That's basically the 1st and 2nd the year Luck came out and the next 3 1sts.

I'm not saying I know that would get it done, but I feel like it's in the ballpark.

Personally, I'd do it. EJ isn't a loss if we have Luck. Gilmore isn't the shutdown corner we thought he'd be. Glenn is still a question mark. I always find it interesting to look at trades involving picks after the picks have been made. To me, this is a no brainer.

    Just fun speculation

ROFL!!! You aren't serious right? I mean I'd love to have Luck be the QB, but there is no way in a million years it would ever happen. I mean you know that right?

  16. this team is still plagued with below average QB play.

Orton Passer Rating: 20th (EJ 28th)

Orton Total QBR: 31st (EJ 33rd)

Orton is playing better than EJ, but that ain't saying much.

Orton better take advantage of the upcoming so called easier games.

No ****. You were expecting Orton to be the second coming of Jim Kelly???

  17. Considering he has one month with the team, beat the Lions, made all the throws, made some great adjustments , is still a little rusty, why is Kyle Orton NOT the long term answer?

    I think he is......

Yes,yes, we need to see more but why rule him out ? I see lots of threads that say he is a short term fix........Why ?

Its very possible that he could be Buffalo's QB for the next 5 or 6 years .

We may be rebuilding this team by then....... :flirt:

    --

How is he not a long term answer? #1 is age. #2 is can he get this team to the playoffs? Who says he doesn't drop the next 11 games? That has been a recurring theme around here for the past 14 years or so. I don't expect it, but let's see a body of work before we put him on the wall of fame already :wallbash:
