    I'm not sure you're asking. But it works out such that the Pats* would have taken over at 4:05 rather than 4:31.

     

    I see what I did here. You're right. Let me restate my case. IIRC Fred was gaining about 4 yards a carry late in the game. Again as I recall the first 2 downs were runs making it 3rd and 2 or maybe 3. Each of those runs came with about 20 - 25 seconds left on the play clock. Had we let the clock work down on each of the first 2 downs that would have been at least another 40 seconds. The 3rd down incomplete pass stopped the clock. Another run - even if it came up short - would have worked another 20 - 25 seconds off the clock. Best case scenario, first down. Next best, we bleed off another minute off the clock, then punt. Worst case, they have to burn some timeouts, but with the same amount of time left. I think one minute less, or no timeouts changes the dynamics.

     

    One more thing for the good of the order. Spillers fumble and our fumble return for the TD are a wash. Stuff happens.

    What you're asking for is an extra 26 seconds off the clock. Do you think that would have been the difference?

     

    Also, the players and coaches (rightly, IMO) approached that drive with scoring being the primary objective, NOT milking the clock. Given how they executed, however, even if the latter would have been the goal, it would have resulted in 26 less seconds for the Patriots. So I go back to the question above: do you still think that would have been a difference?

     

    Yeah I do. It would be 26 seconds per play right.

  3. I've too have been hoping that EJ is secretly preparing for the NE game. That it's all been a misdirection or a shell game.

     

    But then I remember what I was thinking when Shanahan rushed RGIII back on a bum knee. That was irresponsible on their part. Why foolishly risk the franchise on one game. Can you imagine the outcry if a first year coach and a first year GM ruin their first round pick for the year.

     

    I just wish it wasn't NE. I am tired of being their B word.

  4. Promo the Robot asked the question a week or two ago; "How will this defense perform when someone schemes against it?" Shanahan clearly schemed for this game. He saw what happened in the Minnesota game and was not going to be embarrassed at home. He's taken too much heat for the RG3 thing already.

     

    I did see blitzes. I saw pressure from the defensive right get picked up, and balls thrown over the top. Corners were playing off coverage. That made no sense.

  5. I think Marrone's priority is going to be getting guys that really buy into what he is trying to do. I remember reading the stories of how dozens of players at Syracuse left (apparently of their own volition) with the suggestion being he pushed the weak links out. There are obviously different parameters here, but I think if there are veterans who don't give 100% effort and commitment (or rookies for that matter - Da'rick I'm looking at you) they will be gone. With that said, I also think he understands the benefit of having established veterans with the right attitude who can show these rookies how it's supposed to be done. My personal opinion is that most of our veterans do fall into this category, although unfortunately it hasn't really been combined with the talent to win football games.

     

    I think you nailed it. There has been a lot of talk at OBD about the new 'vision' or 'model' that both Marrone and Whaley subscribe to.

  6. There's really no persuasive argument offered in the article to make us think Rogers will shine this year - though I hope you're right. What makes Rogers such a great NFL prospect? Superior body control? Hand-eye coordination? Route running? Speed? Elusiveness? Strength?

     

    Somebody or another compared Rogers to Randy Moss and I hope that - on the field - the comparison proves justified. As of right now, I'm not expecting him to crack the starting lineup.

    If you're gonna make a ridiculous comparison, I think his game compares more to TO than Moss, albeit they both are ridiculous at this point

     

    It was Pat Kirwan on Sirius XM (Moving the Chains) that made that comment when they visited Bills camp. He followed up that statement by saying how "thick" he was in the body. That statement made me think of TO, not Moss. In any case, Kirwan felt that he had the skill set to make the roster.

    I just cannot see any team investing the time or the money on this guy. What quarterback can survive being out of football for 3 years? Where are his practice reps coming from? A rookie coach in Chicago is going to spend his time on the starter, not the 3rd or 4th qb on the depth chart.

     

    He had his chance. Sorry. But that is life. With all sincerity, Ccngrats on losing the weight though.

    This was buried at the beginning of the thread. While I would certainly hope that all goes well for Jim and his family, I'd be lying if I wasn't a wee bit concerned about the long term status of Bills ownership given todays news.
