  1. NGU, there has been a lot of speculation on this board as to who you really are. No one has questioned your ability to provide inside information. But if you are who we think you are; someday you will play an important roll in the organization. That being said, this is not how you run a first class organization. If you are well connected as you seem to be, and have issues with JW, this is not the right place for that forum.

  2. YE OLE feels the need to chime in and say that we collectively hope this can not continue to escalate. Collectively this board greatly appreciates the contributions that JW makes and it's clear that NGU has an inside scoop over everyone. Most all of the info. he has brought us has been well ahead of any reports from any media source and always 100% accurate. NGU, in fact, may actually be someone IN the organization. Lets not run him off either.

    +1

This is uncomfortable. Two of my favorite posters are now going at it. Keep writing JW. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to post on this board.

But how can anyone know for sure that a reporter doesn't have meaningful conversations with someone in an organization. That's a reporters job. I would expect him to.

  3. Players should get paid not for what they have done -- but for what they are anticipated to do. Kyle got a big payday because we anticipate he will only get better for the next few years. Same could or should be said about Stevie and maybe Fitz. Consider the number of RBs that have changed teams just before they hit 30. (It killed me to see Thurman as a 'fin. But what did he contribute to that team?) RB is the one position that has a very short shelf life.

I really like Fred. But no-one put a gun to his head and forced him to sign his last contract extension. You think he ever thought he'd see that much money coming out of Coe College?

  4. The first question is a tough one; I think it's what this whole thread is exploring. I don't know where the line is drawn, but if it's drawn towards turning the stadium into a Chuck-E-Cheese, I'm against it. (If it's drawn towards turning the stadium into the infield at the Preakness, I'm also against it.)

The second question: because high school games are about kids. Kids learning to play a game, kids learning teamwork, kids learning how to socialize with one another in the stands.

The atmosphere is different, too. Ever been to a pro game where the whole crowd is chanting "@ss-hoooooole, @ass-hoooole" at a player or a ref? Can you imagine that at a high school game? I know the principal of my high school would have had a conniption if we had done that; probably would have made the next home game closed to non-players. But somehow it seems totally appropriate when directed towards Bryan Cox, you know?

Again, we share a lot in common here. I don't expect any sporting event to be a Chuck_E_Cheese. And I know you have stated you're against the fighting, etc.

But for your second answer, where did we (all) go wrong then? If we are trying to teach "how to socialize with one another in the stands", how do we explain our hypocrisy from one event to another. How can we enjoy a family atmosphere on Saturday, but feel the need to act poorly on Sunday? Why doesn't everything you say about a HS game apply to any pro game?

I think if I went to a game with my daughter, I'd be fine with you sitting near me. I also think your principal taught you more than you realize. (And yeah, Cox was ... well... aptly named.)

  5.

After some more consideration, I'm wondering if I have higher standards for what is "family friendly" than most; i.e., if I'm a little paranoid. Maybe it comes from having lived a few years in the Bible Belt. I'm definitely not advocating violence or drunkenness; I'm saying that a pro game is a place where grownups go to have some fun, and when your child is ready to understand the distinction between how we act at a football game versus how we act in other situations, well, that's when he or she is ready to go.

I think we share some common ground. Two questions though: Where does a person's right to blow off steam interfere with my right to bring my child to see a sporting event? And, why the distinction between a HS game and a pro game? Why is blowing off steam acceptable in one case, but not the other?

  6.

I've never been a big fan of the way a lot of people act at games. On the other hand, I don't necessarily think that a NFL game needs to be a family-friendly event; in my mind, it's a place for grownups to blow off steam, like a rock concert is.

I'm more concerned about grownups staying out of fights and car accidents than I am about making the stadium a nice place for children.

I have an (under 10) daughter. I won't take her to a game for similar reasons others have posted. But why should a sporting event be a reason to blow off steam? Fan behavior seems to sliding into the abyss. No one is proud of the behavior of baseball fans in California. And that's BASEBALL for gods sake. I think it should be fan friendly. Not like going to church. But similar behavior to a high school football game.

Enjoy the game, bond with your kids, and please drive home safely.

To me, Overdorf has consistently either overpaid or underpaid and rarely got it right, outside of some medium range FA in the Dwan Edwards and Spencer Johnson range. Not big money but you get what you pay for. Draft picks don't count because of the slotting system. The fact is, a guy like Overdorf should not be the person deciding how much a player is or isn't worth, as he is not a personnel guy or talent evaluator.

Buffalo is such a mess I think we have to over pay to get a decent FA to sign. That's the problem we run into. To attract high value FA -- at a reasonable price -- there has to be the expectation of organizational success. Right now, we cant say that.

  8. Every year during training camp I come away thinking either: (a) Our offense is going to be awesome, Or, (b) Our defense is going to be awesome. I have been been consistently wrong every year. This year I came away wondering, "Is our defense really THAT good, or does our offense suck that badly."

That offensive line is thin on talent. After watching a few practices, my eyeballs told me the O-line second stringers were getting constantly bull-rushed by the first, second and third string D-line. The D-linemen were consistently winning the one on one battles.

That does not bode well for this team.

  9.

Oh and since this is my first thread started, I thought I would give my opinion on Evans and why "I" thought we moved him. Aside from some of the other opinions I've read here, I think that Galley knows that Fitz isn't going to have the ball long enough in his hands this year to get the ball 40, 50 yards down field, and since Evan's was mediocre at best at swinging into the center of the field, he really doesn't fit what I think Galley's plan is. I think Galley ideally wants to be a run first offense, similar to the Bears, and I personally think it's the right move goven the level of development of the young Bills.

I think you're dead on. The offense that has been on display at camp has been short quick passes. From what I saw at camp - granted I only went a few times - the vast majority of passes attempted were UNDER 10 yards (prior to the catch).

  10. look how thin his wrists are I don't see how he could maintain weight above 240

No photo, but he had the skinniest hips I have ever seen for a D-lineman/OLB. Not a good enough frame for a TE either. Not fast/quick enough for a WR or safety either.

If he makes the Jets squad, for home games he's going to look like a string bean.

Two more things, if he can lose 10 pounds in 2 days, I'll take what he had. And by the way, with all the aerobic activity training camp requires, there is NO WAY he can GAIN muscle mass. Unless of course takes the field carrying groceries.

  11. but those second stringers looked rough especially the O-line, D-line looked better as night went on.

There was a run play late in the 3rd quarter - White took the hand off, and was met by the entire Chicago front 4. I watched the play several times (on the dvr). Our entire O line - all 5 of them - whiffed on their blocks. Two linemen missed badly on cut blocks, another went to block a linebacker, but the backer sidestepped him, the right tackle completely missed sealing the end, and the center barely put a hand on the tackle.

I hope none of the starters gets hurt. To call that group "journey-men" is a disservice to journey-men everywhere.

  12. Jasper was slow off the snap and couldn't disengage from his blockers at all. He looked very, very raw. Poor leverage and just got almost no push 90% of the time. Hope he is a fast learner and can apply what he learned from game 1.

He was in the game a few snaps before the announcers noticed. He had decent push, and did occupy 2 blockers for the first few snaps. But he got gassed fast. By the end, he was on skates. Unless he can improve his endurance, he's only good for short yardage packages. But that can be useful too.

  13. We were on the A path until we whiffed on their little pet Shrpperd, who's 4.8 40 would have meant he was there in Rd 4.

    Best draft goes to Saints

My draft rag has him running a 4.64 Sounds good for an inside backer.

Also, if the Bills coaching staff worked with him for a week at the Senior Bowl -- they know EXACTLY what they are getting. Maybe, just maybe, another guy might be marginally more talented. But here's a guy the Bills staff KNOWS. Talent being relatively equal, take the guy that offers the better KNOWN value.
