  1. Not a fan of Ebron at 9, either, but comparing his production to Maybin's is a COMPLETE mismatch. Ebron had excellent production in the ACC, while Maybin was expected to be a backup until the starter at Penn St was suspended for his season.

3 TDs? Questionable blocker? I dunno man. Whenever someone talk about what a great athlete the guy is, I'd rather hear what a good football payer he is.

He broke Vernon Davis' records in catches and yards for a TE in the ACC. So I don't understand how you can say that he had limited production.

You're talking the 9th OVERALL pick in the NFL draft. This guy was never on ESPN and I hadn't heard of him prior to the run up to the combine. Now….Mike Evans, I heard of.
  2. Here's the deal with Ebron: I doubt the Bills will pick him. Let's see….great athlete with limited production that projects to be a dominant pro? That just don't fly. It's got a real Aaron Maybin feel to me. The more I read, the more I'm convinced it's going to be an OT. Lewan. Zack Martin.

I would be blown away if Ebron has done enough to warrant a top 10 pick. If it is a skill player, his name will be Evans.

  3. I was right on Colston,Burfict,Dion Jordan,Maybin,Orakapo,Tank Carder, Nassib and many others.

Never toot your own horn unless you can tell me where Jimmy Hoffa is, cure disease or have women completely figured out.

    I'm apologizing in advance...

It's a pet peeve of mine when people talk about watching "film" of a draft prospect.

Unless you guys actually have the coaches' tape, in which case I'm a jerk, what you're watching are video clips.

Okay, sorry, I'll move on now.

    learnt that the hard way….
  4. I'm not a huge fan of this move at all. Too big a risk for too much money, especially if we are keeping Stevie. If we keep this guy over Stevie, and then don't draft Evans, I will like it less. I also hate the idea of OT at #9 because we will lose Glenn, IMO.

    That said...

If the thinking is to go after Ebron, and keep Stevie... then the line-up of Stevie. Mike Williams. Woods. Goodwin. Ebron. Chandler. Spiller. Jackson. could really do some damage is they came together at all.

I just don't think they are going to do that.

thought of all that, but it's a talented playmaker who had 9 TDs in the NFL in 1 season for a team that needs playmakers….all for really nothing. And it's competition at WR. The Bills are taking an OT. Everything points to it…..
  5. For a 6th round pick, that seems like a steal...I realize he must have some off-field issues given the recent events with his brother, but a proven WR talent in the NFL that is still young for a 6th round pick, seems like a good value for the BILLS and seems to indicate the Bucs planned on cutting him at some point if they couldn't get "something" for him....way to go Whaley

A clear shift in Buffalo - acquiring guys with off the field issues instead of ON the field issues. I like it.
  6. Reality Check: As much money that can be made from the county, state and public on stadium construction, improvements, luxury boxes, concessions, licensing and PSLs, do you really think the owners would approve a plan that had limited pockets and cut into the owner's frosting?

It doesn't pass the laugh test and would NEVER even be considered.

  7. Honestly do people see no difference in the team from 6 years ago? 4 years ago? Granted until the record changes then everyones heads are on the block but the team is so much better now compared to just a few years ago. I think it needs a winning attitude now. No more heartbreaking losses. win those tight games and we are in the playoffs. I think this management team has done a solid job so far.

Honestly…no they are not better. 6-10 is 6-10. This team is still 1/2 dozen players away from relevance and doesn't really know whether they have a QB or not.
  8. Pretty much the only thing he is supposed to do that has a direct affect on the performance of the team on the field is to hire the Gm and the jury is still out on Whaley. There are little things he may do that trickle down, sure, like the Toronto thing, but that wasnt his decision,.

His presence in the draft room notwithstanding…..
  9. Until further notice, he's a 6-10 President. He may be a great guy with the best intentions in the world, but if all of his efforts don't contribute to a winning franchise on the field, he, unfortunately, lacks something. I don't question his heart, his loyalty or his intentions. I just look at the last 15 years and he is a very classy and persuasive common thread to a team that waffles between irrelevance and mediocrity.

  10. So I gather that you are fluent in legalese? :D

That lease language really does, IMO, make it clear that all parties want this team here for the long haul--agree?

I have a few Bars under my belt....but that practice is a whole other world. The lease seems simple to me as well, but even the most simple documents (i.e. The Constitution) have spawned a huge amount of litigation. I am sure there are no less than 3 major firms on retainer right now examining the lease and potential "outs".

I love this thread....and I think you are reading everything right. That and a quarter......

  11.

Are you assuming the new owners would be cancelling a new stadium being built in Buffalo? Not sure where you get $1B from.

Liquidated damages at $400M is for the breach of contract - got that. Potential damages is this an NFL fee for moving a team? A team moving to LA would change the AFC East dynamic, right? The possible litigation fallout could be big, especially assuming this goes before NYS SC.

The 1B is what it costs to build a modern NFL stadium. If it's Bon Jovi and Toronto, they have to build a home.

  12. They would also need approval from a large percentage of owners and pay a relocation fee that would range anywhere from 275-400 million...

I doubt someone is gonna go into a nearly 2 billion dollar hole to move the team...the NFL makes a lot of money, but not THAT much money...

Stadium - $1B. Relo Fee - $400M. Liquidated Damages to Erie Co - $400M. Potential Damages against new "Modell" - $500M+ . Lawyers. Lawyers and more Lawyers. I see the potential exposure closer to $3B, no?
  13. One thing I never understood is why the lower buyout in year 7 was even included in the first place.

It looks to me like a gun to the head of Bills/County/State to build a new stadium.

Ah okay...yeah, I'm not sure what would happen...betcha the federal court would get involved if it went far enough.

EDIT: although, that would have to be one stupid owner to mess with an organization that has an anti-trust exemption

    BOOM!!!!
  14. Seems kind of nit-picky to me. What if the new owner pulled an Irsay or a Modell and just up and left? Erie County could sue the Bills for breach of contract, and would win, and would presumably get the $400 million liquid damages specified in the lease. Kryk's supposition (or more accurately, his source's supposition) seems to be that a new owner "can't" leave without first getting prior permission, but people break contracts all the time without first getting prior permission.

I can see a bunch of issues spinning out of this one. How about tortious interference with contract. I am by no means an expert in the area, but a potential buyer could, themselves, be liable for massive damages if they entice the Bills to leave.

"In a contract interference case — as here — the plaintiff must show the existence of its valid contract with a third party, defendant's knowledge of that contract, defendant's intentional and improper procuring of a breach, and damages." White Plains Coat & Apron v. Cintas, NEW YORK COURT OF APPEALS. http://www.law.corne...ap/I07_0050.htm.

That would be my #1 bullet in the legal gun aimed at Bon Jovi and others. I am sure there are other causes of action, but I'm not a commercial litigator. Regardless of the outcome of this, AND OTHER, lawsuits, the $400M liquidated damages would be paid by Bills, but presumedly included in purchase price. So let's say the price is $900M. Add in the $400M the Bills would have to pay. Plus, for arguments sake, $500M in damages from New owners to Erie County, NYS, Plus $1B for a new stadium....it's a HUUUGE number.

I think if the Bills were bought with the intention to move, they wouldn't move for another 6 years to avoid this very expensive and messy litigation.

Oh...and then there's the issue of the NFL owners wanting to keep a franchise in WNY and they would have to approve any relocating suitor. The idea of the Bills relocating is so complex, I doubt it happens soon, if at all.

This. Even IF a new owner breaks the lease, worst thing that can happen to him is he's out $400 million. Best thing, he gets that overturned and goes along his merry way.

See above. The NFL would most assuredly be named a party in the lawsuit and would be party to some HUGE litigation if they leave in the next 6 years. Nobody "goes along their merry way" in federal court.
  15. If we get Foles, I say let's do it.

The Bills coulda had Foles....and a number of other starting NFL QBs draftted in the 3rd or later. I have a strong feeling that they SHOULD draft a QB in the 3rd this year. Whether it be a McCarron or Murray, I think the Bills need to hedge their bets on EJ. My guess is they float a 5th or 6th rounder on a lesser guy, but I hope they don't continue to ignore the most important position on the field.
