Didn’t see this subject being discussed anywhere. Shame on the NFL.

Does the league serve as a microcosm for wider societal attitudes?Solid, thoughtful question. I do not generally support today's broad "systemic racism" assertions. But this article made me throw up in my mouth and really pissed me off. I owe it to this reality to give your question quality consideration.

The same is true if he would only get the dang vaccination. Nobody would ever ask about it again.
Incorrect. The question would then turn to, "Do you resent your teammates who have not gotten vaccinated?"

Well, that was a fun piece of viewing candy for a Saturday morning.

GM Steve Keim called first-round pick Zaven Collins less of a positional projection than previous picks, notably Haasan Reddick. Execs agreed with the assessment. Keim also compared Collins to Tremaine Edmunds, the linebacker Buffalo selected in the same slot (16th) back in 2018. Execs objected — “not even close,” one of them said.
Are the execs saying (he asks hopefully) that Edmunds is considered far better?

Smith, listed at 6-3 and 227 pounds, started all nine games last fall and threw for 1,947 yards and 13 touchdowns, completing 56% of his passes. He also led Tulsa to three comeback victories.
A college QB with a 56% completion percentage cannot possible succeed in the NFL. #inaccurate

I'm fine with no startable CB or TE. But to completely ignore the 1 tech DL is baffling to me.
Star is coming back. But A) what if he doesn't have it anymore, and B) what if he gets half way through camp and decides to hang it up for good? And if he is there this year, who else is in the 1 tech rotation? If they try to make Ed play it again, I'm going to lose my %&#$. He was drafted #9 overall to be our lightning bolt disruptor in the middle of the line.
If that's how he's going to be used again this year, you might as well trade him for a true 1 tech, and let him shine in the role he was meant to have somewhere else.
I don't know any more than you do regarding Star. However, I'm willing to bet that Beane and McDermott do. The fact that we haven't done anything with 1T has me believing that they are in touch with Star and all is well. We saw this past year how much we need him.

Lol.....no. He is overpaid.....I didn’t say I didn’t like it. Please don’t put words into my mouth. Saying someone is overpaid, in no way means that I don’t like the contract. We overpaid for Mario Williams. I loved that we signed him. Dareus was overpaid. I didn’t think it was a good decision to let him walk. I thought they wrote a bad contract....but didn’t dislike the signing. The Bills overpaid almost every free agent they signed for close to 20 years. That doesn’t mean I didn’t like the signings.
I really like Tremaine. I have hopes that he will improve and be a building block for multiple super bowl titles. I have hopes that his improvement will make him worthy of his contract . He is currently not a 12.7M player imo and is overpaid.
but feel free to continue to put words in my mouth
In politics, they call this walking back your statement. As I said, my issue was your self-congratulatory "realist" label. You have an opinion, no more, no less.

what do you mean “don’t like something about the Bills?”. What don’t I like? Do tell.Your words, "he needs to play better or 12.7M is substantially overpaying for his services. As the kids say, FACTS." So, you dislike the contract he is getting. I don't have "to tell". You already told.
I don't take issue with your point of view. I take issue with your dismissing every poster who is happy the fifth year is picked up by congratulating yourself for being a "realist". No, you just have an opinion - no more, no less.

I don’t think there are any Edmunds “haters”, rather Edmunds “realists”.

Why do all posters who don't like something about the Bills or a Bill call themselves "realists"? You are no more a "realist" than someone who thinks that Edmunds will lead us to a Super Bowl. You have a point of view, that's all.

But, can he play TE?
...maybe.
Although he is a development pick at the moment, he may become a nasty red zone threat as a third tackle in the future.

Lost to injury, then cut. Brett Veach GMs like he’s playing Madden. After the defense cost the team a championship in 2018, he rolled with 8 new starters in 2019. After the OL did the same last season, he’s replaced all 5 including 2 Pro Bowlers (not counting Long). He’s the polar opposite of Beane which shows there’s more than one way to build a top tier roster.
I still maintain that Beane needs to focus on players with superstar level upside even if it means he’s going to have some holes on the roster to work around. That doesn’t seem to be his M.O., though. He’s built a roster with no weak links, but it’s lacking superstars.
Josh Allen, Staff Diggs and Tre White say hello.

This cracks me up. My response was meant partly in fun due to how the numbers matched up so evenly. However, because I think differently than you, I am less objective? This is sad and funny at the same time.
Grumble on, sir. You be you.

Leaving some critical data out in this analysis:
In 2018, Buffalo spent 11.38M to rank 30th in the NFL. OL represented 6.03% of team cap dollars
That increased to 29.05M spent vaulting them to 12th and 14.5% of their cap.
In 2020, Bills OL spending increased to 36.25M to rank 3rd and was 16.4% of cap.
Sure, some players like Dawkins who are homegrown received contract extensions and they should be credited for that. But much of the rest of that OL is higher paid UFAs, which should provide better quality of play. In 2020, I don't see them as having gotten their money's worth from the OL to spend what they did.
Let me see, we spent the 3rd highest percentage in the NFL on our offensive line and:
- Finished tied for 2nd in total yards
- Finished second in total points
and finished (by virtue of losing a conference championship game) tied for 3rd in the NFL.
I think we got precisely our money's worth.

For you non-Sabres followers who do not know how fragile the Bills success is:
Sabres beat reporter Paul Hamilton recently stated on WGR that he knows that the Pegula's regret giving McBeane as much authority as they have.......despite the success........so not to expect them to do the same for anyone with the Sabres.
That is simply a scary thought coming from a well connected, veteran beat reporter...........so let's hope they stay on good terms with McBeane.
Keep in mind that the Sabres are the worst organization in north american major pro sports............by a lot........it gets no worse than the Pegula lead Sabres..........which I believe was another statistical takeaway from that 538 article.
If you don't think the Bills success can be undone by meddling from the stewards of the worst franchise around............hey, when John Butler quit the vast majority of this very board thought that there was no way that the organization could fall out of contention. The very thought was a big joke on this board. 10 playoff trips and 4 SB appearances in 12 years.........and owner who seemed willing to pay whenever his GM asked.
Ralph was bordering on beloved by those(myself included) who hadn't really suffered thru his terrible late 60's-mid 80's stewardship.
The ship lost it's rudder when Butler and co. left town.........and it soon became obvious AGAIN just how bad of a football man Ralph was.
And, bless Terry Pegula for his generosity to WNY..........but he makes Ralph look like Dan Rooney by comparison as a man of the sport.
We’re all going to die! 😳

So, Hughes, Addison, and Obada are all UFAs in 2022. Yikes.
A good portion of NFL players are free agents every year. This is a really weak attempt to throw shade on a low risk, potentially high reward signing.

There is also the potential for trading Mitch for a reasonably high draft pick to a QB needy team during the season.
