  1. Paatt - I, too, am an EJ fan. I think he can be a great one. I do think he needs to improve his footwork, but I believe he has shown the ability to correct mistakes since OTAs.

If EJ is able back on the field for the PIT game, then remains healthy for the rest of the season, that's 11.5 games for his first season. I would consider that a "full season," and not qualify next season as a "second rookie year."

It's my hope that this injury is a blessing in disguise. Thad Lewis is getting some great experience. He is showing (in my opinion) that he's worth holding onto as a very capable backup. EJ - as you've stated - is getting some time to sit and learn and go through the mental reps. He's not been injury-prone in the past. Therefore I'm looking at this as his opportunity to become 100% healthy and stay near 100% health for the remainder of the season. There is no reason to believe that durability is a concern with EJ, in my opinion.

As far as the season goes, I consider the Chiefs game a must win. I also consider it winnable. If we can win this game, then get EJ back for wins against the Steelers and Jets. We're riding into a BYE week with momentum, a winning record, and the easiest stretch of our schedule.

    Go EJ and Go Biils!!

  2. On a somewhat related note, I saw (on Facebook) that Jane's Addiction will be getting a star on the Walk of Fame. Perry Farrell informed everyone that he, Navarro, Steve Perkins and Chris Chaney (new bassist) will be on hand to accept the honor.

Man ... you should see some of the comments (including mine) ripping the schit out of them for not having Eric Avery (original bassist) there.

For those who may not know, this isn't a Pete Best or John Rutsey deal. Jane's Addiction made their mark on Alternative Rock with three albums. Jane's Addiction (Live), Nothing Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual; all of which Avery played bass for. Jane's has recorded two studio albums with Chaney, neither of which made any mark on any genre of music. I like both albums and I am a HUGE JA fan, but I can admit ... they weren't moving the earth with these recordings.

There is a $30,000 sponsorship fee associated with those stupid stars. Kinda like the $25,000 table to be at the ceremony for the Shill Palace.

My message to Perry Farrell (doubtful that he read it, but you never know) - Unless Eric Avery was asked to attend and decided that he did not want to, if Jane's Addiction accepts that star without him I will consider you all to be sell-outs.

I'd expect that kind of behavior from Navarro. But not Farrell and/or Perkins. Sad day as a Jane's fan.

  3. My brother is 2 years older. They built our gymnasium and pool addition to our high school in the late 60's. An no, there was at no time that they had us swim naked. They had swim suits for us to use from day one. They were color coded to your size which was a huge embarrassment for some of the girls. But they were very flimsy and we loved the suits on the girls in that cold water.

I'm sure they loved you boys in that cold water even more!

  4. I think he should have pulled the starters earlier. I also think a "bullying charge" is ridiculous.

We recently dealt with a somewhat similar (yet FAR less embarrassing) situation locally. A young girl at a local school was a few goals short of the NYS single season scoring record for Girls Soccer. Her team is the best in the council and she is, by far, the best player in the state. The game was over before it started.

Long story-short, she played the entire game - on offense - and scored 7 goals en route to a 10-0 team victory.

    She got the record.

    But at what cost?

I'm torn on this one. I know this girl's father. I know the school's soccer coaches. I realize you want that record. But it's like fishing in a barrel. How satisfying can it be?

I don't like the message it sends; and I don't like the 91-0 drubbing, either. There are ways to avoid things like this. They're kids. They'll get their real-life lessons sooner than they want to. Why rush it?

  5. Eric Wood begs to differ.

Ahhh, yes ... so Maybin is the bad guy for sitting out in league where sitting out is commonplace. Blame the NFL and the players' union ... don't blame the players. He was drafted too early because our scouting sucked. He was paid too much because the system sucked.

But I will admit ... I love Eric Wood and I loved when he called him out.

  6. Not unique to the city schools in WNY. I went to grade school in Barker, NY and we swam naked. Thinking about it now it does seem a little weird that we did that but at the time it seemed normal.

This deserves its own thread/poll. I am FLOORED by how many people swam naked in school. I graduated in 1989 and never heard of it. Insane.

  7. As a boy growing up in Buffalo in the mid 70s, we were of the group that had to swim naked when we did swimming in gym class. Girls were in a separate class, and got to wear suits. We saw that door to their locker room crack open many times tho.

I remember seeing this here at least a year or two ago. I hope to hell it was from you, because if this was widespread, that's some disturbing schit.

We had to wear school-issued bathing suits. We would stand in line naked and the gym coach would reach into a bin and throw us the appropriate sized swimsuit. They were silky and blue and fit like tightie whities.
