  1. 1. pressure. rattle him; sack him a few times; make him hear footsteps

    2. coverage. take away his receivers long enough that the footsteps and clock in his head get loud

    3. turnovers. take it away and don't give it up

Note that only 1/2 out of 3 involve offense and none require Marvelboy QB (provided the QB we have doesn't throw to the wrong color)

2 1/2 do require significant upgrades on D

I've only been watching football for 40 years, but I would say your "formula" would beat any qb.

  2. 1) The run by Lynch in the wildcard game was great, but did anybody see the 58 TD pass Cutler threw on this cold, windy, snowy day? It was picture perfect, as well as a ball can be thrown.

    2) How about 3 receptions for 113 yards and a TD from Olsen at TE? Can a Bills fan even imagine something this good?

    3) The Bears ran for 176 yards and held Seattle to 34.

    4) T.O.P.? NFL.com lists it as 37:11 to 22:50 in favor of the Bears.

In summary, the Bears did everything a team is supposed to do in terms of using home field advantage. Cutler used his Mallett style arm in the elements. They ran and stopped the run and utilized the tight end. They did everything the Bills SHOULD be able to do.

As Bills fans, we argue as to whether or not to keep Whitner, or if CJ Spiller was a good selection at #9. It is clear to me that the Bills must build a team which is suited to the environment in which they play. Maybe they DID start doing so after round 1 in 2010, but Levy/Jauron did untold damage to this franchise, and their mentality must be purged in a hurry.

We have the #3, let's just hope they don't screw up yet another prime selection.

This is why you don't want a 7-9 team in the playoffs

  3. Fitz has yet to show that he can beat a good team. Every time they played a good team, he found ways to lose the game. Kelly on the other hand was at his best under pressure. He consistently beat Marino and Elway in head to head matchups. Numbers don't tell the whole story. They are just statistics. What counts is the ability to win football games. Kelly had it, Fitz does not. He is a step up over Trent Edwards, but that ain't saying much.

BS! The Buffalo Bills, with Kelly at QB, had PLAYMAKERS on their team. Bruce Smith, Phil Hansen Daryl Talley, Biscuit, Shane Conlin, Andra Reed, James Loften, Pete Metzalars,Steve Tasker, Thurman Thomas, and an OL to die for. Who are those PLAYMAKERS on the current roster?

I like Fitz, is he Kelly? No, but given the lack of talent surrounding him, you can't compare the two.

  4. The Pats are going to beat us next weekend, it's a given. They always beat us. And usually, we make it easy for them. Under Jauron, Brady's trips to the Ralph were a walk in the park - it looked unbelievably easy for him. And this year, we just don't have the players (yet, hopefully) to pull out a victory.

So here's what I would do:

Rather than sit back and let him dink and dunk his way up and down the field, I would blitz the hell out of him. I'd hit him on every pass play, if possible. I'd even tell my guys not to worry about a few roughing the passer flags, because everyone knows they'll come.

And I don't care about the fact that by blitzing, you give up the big play.

So what, I'm thinking LONG TERM.

And long term, I don't want Brady to enjoy his trips to Buffalo anymore. I want him to start hating having to come play here. So that it sticks in his mind. And so next year, hopefully, and years to come, he remembers how much he hates playing in Buffalo.

The time to start getting in his head is NOW. I hope Chan sees it the same way. Make it as uncomfortable as possible for the guy.

Oh, and less anyone out there feels bad for him, here is a great piece from Tim Graham showing evidence that Brady runs up the score on teams:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/23366/does-tom-brady-run-up-the-score

    Go Bills.

I definitely agree with this tactic (play hard nose football.) However, 1) we should have been doing this from the first time Brady played in Buffalo and 2) it seems a little too late, because, how much time does Brady have playing football anyway. He is on the tail end of his career. He has all the money, fame, hot wife, kid(s) any one man would want.

But again, I agree. Maybe Moats could hit him hard enough to make him consider early retirement, instead of doing the Farve and playing till he is 40.

  5. 3-10 seasons aren't pretty, but despite Jerry Sullivan and his ilk's outlook there are some positives about this team. In the spirit of Christmas let's list a few. Here's one to get it started:

I really like the young receiving corps on this team. Johnson has been a revelation, Nelson and Jones have made some big catches, Parrish was finally living up to his potential and let's not forget that camp star Easley will be back next season. In fact, one might argue that the only weak link here all season was the aging and overpaid Lee Evans.

All in all, I think the kids have been a big upgrade over TO and Josh Reed, with nothing but upside on the horizon.

I think one of the most positive things about the Bills coaching staff is it's ability to make game time adjustments and the Bills players to execute those adjustments. The latest example was this Sunday making adjustments to compensate for what Cleveland was doing with their run game on their first drive. What a refreshing change from the previous coaching staffs and something to look forward to in the future.

  6. "I'm excited to come back and play center," Wood said. "It's more of a natural position for me. I played it all through college. Guard is a lot of fun. You get to throw your weight around a little bit more. But center's a position I loved in college, and I'm excited to get back to playing it."

This guy is one of my favorite players and recent draft picks. Reading the above gives me the sense that he loves playing football. Good luck on Sunday!

  7.

The only thing that worries me is Carolina outdoing us in losing football games and snagging him (they wouldn't right, not with Jimmy Claussen being taken in the 2nd just last year?) I know there's still a lot to be determined, but I've got my fingers crossed for good Luck.

My nightmare scenario is that Dallas does not win another game this season. We win a couple games via Cleveland and Detroit. Dallas earns the number one pick and drafts Luck right out from under our noses, sending Romo to the waiver wire. And the rest as they say is history.

  8. Well how is a 24 year old, 2x 1,000 yard rusher, who has been to the pro-bowl...NOT in your long-term plans???

That is just retarded and it WILL cost them! (Now in a year, we have to go out and draft Jackson's replacement...somebody who can pound the ball and be the #1 RB...SPILLER will not cut it as a workhorse!)

Comparing what McCargo is worth to this team with what Whitner is worth to this team...is a complete joke!

With respect to Lynch... InCorrect! He is not in the long term plans because as soon as he is a free agent, he is out of here. Do you really want to franchise the guy to keep him on the team, so he can get into more trouble and get suspended for a year? Oh by the way, Lynch backed into the Pro Bowl when the guy actually selected (forget who) backed out from playing.

With respect to McCargo... Correct! At least Whitner can/has contributed SOMETHING to the cause, what's Escargo done for his 1st round draft expenditure.

  9. And that's exactly why Genesee County would never want a stadium out there - everyone trying to avoid the NYS I-90 parking lot would try to shortcut thru those narrow, windy roads that weave right thru their quaint little villages and charming, tiny downtowns.

Hasn't gotten any better since I lived there in the '80s and had season tix at the old Shaefer/Sullivan/Whatever stadium next to the old dog track - even after they built a new stadium, widened all the access roads, and added tons of new parking at 50 bucks/car.

As a wild and crazy kid, we would hang out in Oakfield NY (on Route 63 NW of Batavia) on Friday and Saturday nights waiting for the Batavia Downs race track to let out (around 11 pm) and bombard the cars with rotten tomatoes as they passed through this small town with 1 traffic light in the center of the village.

  10. Before you scoff at this... It just might make sense and here's a few reasons why:

    1. Same distance for Canadian fans - about 30 minutes from Buffalo. (Also same distance for northern tier Buffalo and suburbanites).

    2. Double down on Rochester market, and brings Syracuse into play... Remember - the Jets are now in Cortland for training camp, we may be losing ground in CNY

    3. Outside Erie County! Which means it just might get done in our lifetimes, not to mention you'd bet that area would provide all kinds of incentive and jump at the opportunity. It would be the biggest thing in Batavia since... well, you get the idea.

    4. Same feel for Bills games, tailgating, etc.

Being from Batavia, we have heard this rumor for years. Usually entails a smaller multi-purpose domed stadium topping out at 65k seats. Would it be nice, you bet. Would it be the biggest thing since the Batavia Downs, you bet. Would I be able to afford to attend more games, NO!

Potential problems would be the small local airport may not handle the planes nfl teams use and roads going into and out of Batavia are mostly single lane. Route 5 is the exception. Even access to the thruway exit is tight with 1 road in and out. I remember before OTB when the race track was going strong, cars would be backed up, jammed up for a couple of hours after the track let out on Friday and Saturday nights. I forget how many people the track used to hold, but it wasn't 65K.

  11. You guys is pretty dense up there huh? Maybe if you understood the SATs are out of 1000 you would also understand that Rex was guessing that nobody else in a good frame of mind would take that QB. It's just Rex would like to have him to make the game even uglier. I think he was surprised at the Florida guys actions. At least for now nobody is beating up Kellen Clemens.

    P.S. J-E-T-S Jets JEts JETS.

Yeah, if I understood that the SATs are 1000 (instead of the 1600 that they really used to be; and are now 2400) I would be just as stupid as you.

    PS, J-E-T-S... suck, Suck, SUCK!

  12. If he plays against us and Aaron Maybin doesnt get one sack they should cut him too. I love Nix and Gailey. Send the message. Cut every ingrate on the team. Maybin gets two more chances. If there is no production then he should be cut too. Sometimes the Heimlich maneuver gets rid of that half eaten steak that is stuck in your throat. Every time I see Maybin wired to the offensive lineman it makes me gag. The guy should be a dance instructor and not an NFL linebacker. Tango Maybin.

Wait for the special edition Dancing with the Has Been's, coming this spring.

  13. I'd trade Whitner to Detroit for Ko Simpson, straight up; name Scott the starting SS, then cut Simpson.

    Love this reply! :worthy:

Did you see that hit he layed on some dude in the game yesterday? It hurt me just looking at it.

Yeah! It hurt me too because it was after the dude made a first down and he still hung onto the ball. Wow, that's a real display of first round talent.:wallbash:

  14. While it takes a few years to grade a draft class, it is pathetic how few of our picks are playing and contributing:

    1st round : Spiller - 1 carry and 3 receptions yesterday

2nd round : Troup - How many snaps was he in for?

    3rd round : Carrington - Didn't even dress

4th round : Easley - Out for the year

5th round : Wang - Hurt early on and remains to be seen if he will play this year

    6th round : Moats - 2 tackles this year

    6th round : Batten - Cut

    7th round : Brown - Cut

    7th round : Calloway - Cut

How can we get any better when we have basically no help from this years draft class.

This years? How about the previous 9 years of picks?

    E. Wood (maybe a Pro-bowl player) 1R

    J. Byrd (A real Pro-bowl player) 2R

    A. Levitre (too early to tell) 2R

We have 11 of these guys on the 2010 team, and other than Byrd, very little to show for it.

  15. Just realized he had 8 tackles and 1 sack in the 1st half alone. Is it a conditioning problem, freak coincidences, or is he simply too fragile for his job? What do we do? We obviously can't trade him with his injury issues, but when healthy he "could" be an elite LB in the NFL. Thoughts?

He can pile up some stats when on the field, but IMO he is an average to good run defender and fair to poor is pass coverage. He makes up for it, by "working his a$$ off."

I believe that his injury problem is that he plays with reckless abandon, leaving himself vulnerable.

  16. They love the fact he won't be demanding LT money anytime soon! I wish the best for the kid.

Not that I don't like the kid, but he has not been on the field long enough to determine if he is a long term answer at LT. He definitely is not a short term answer.

After one particularly bad play by Bell, Steve Tasker commented that's why left tackles get paid so well. My thought was exactly, you get what you pay for.

    Final Record 12-4 :)

Notes: ESPN wants to flex our 12/26 NE game, but the Bills tell them to forget about it.

  18. With out a doubt, the heart and soul of the greatest Bills team, Darryl Talley.

    EDIT: i'm talking players only.....on-field.

i'm going to say Thurman Thomas......

League MVP.....and best all around all purpose RB to ever play the game !!

    #1- Thurman

    #2- Bruce

    #3- O.J.

    #4- Cookie

    #5- Kelly

    **EDIT (stolen from the "wildrabbit"):

What most fail to realize is... the Bills used the running game to set up the pass. The Bills used to run more then they threw the ball in the Kelly era. While the Bills O line was better then most, it wasn't even close to what Emmitt Smith had in Dallas.

If you go back and look at what Thurman Thomas did, 5x pro bowls-1991 NFL MVP-1992 NFL offensive player of the year.

Thurman Thomas is the only NFL player to lead the league in total yards from scrimmage for four consecutive seasons.

Now considering he almost never caught the ball while in college it is amazing that he is one of six NFL backs to have over 400 receptions and 10,000 yards rushing. He is also one of five backs to have rushed for over 1,000 yards for 8 consecutive seasons. I know I'm leaving out a bunch of playoffs stats and other stuff. Just think, this kid kept Barry Sanders on the bench in College.

The guy was like 70% of the offense in Buffalo, he gets my vote.
