  1. Levy was so bad, he was good. He clearly benefitted from the personnel we had which was, at times, unreal. But at the same time, you have to recognize that he was one of the most flexible coaches ever. He listened to his players and his assistants and had no ego about going with someone else's ideas, even if it meant a major variation from his views about how to pay winning football. I also think he had an eye for overlooked talent that wasn't as good as Polian's but was pretty good nonetheless.

Some other coach might have to threw the guys out of his office when they suggested going K-gun for the whole game.

Another coach might have got into pissing matches over territory when the GM came in and suggested a huge trade or something like stealing Christie off the waiver wire.

Levy also found a way to keep all those competing egos happy and satisfied. A guy like Parcells would have insisted on being at the center of every drama, every decision and would reject any good idea that wasn't his.

Its not all x's and o's.

    Could not agree more

  2. I think Gruden's going to the Washington Redskins. Him and Dan Snyder are too good a match. The Bills will be probably get a chance at John Fox, Mike Holmgren or one of the "hot" assistant coaches if the big name coaches all take a pass on Buffalo.

Somebody got the jist of the article as it relates to the Bills. Will RW get in a bidding war with Washigton or Dallas over Gruden?

In my perfect world, RW would fire Dick and hire Gruden today. However, reality says RW will sit on his hands, what for the season to end and the coaching merry-go-round to start and hire some nobody and/or has been claiming he can't compete with the likes of Snyder and Jones for top dollar, top shelf coaching.

  3. Rocket boots... Why throw the ball when he could just take the snap and fly in for the TD.

Seriously though, I think he'd look much better with a healthy line and a coach with some history of actually helping struggling qb's

    Agreed.

I noticed TE suffering from what has been called "Happy Feet" When he is looking down field, his feet are jumping around like crazy. A sure sign of anxiousness, in that, if I don;t get rid of the ball soon, I will be eating out of a straw sooner.

This was a problem identified of Jim (Chris) Everett by I believe the espn qb wonk

  4. if trent wants to get better he should study bret farve. He should add some pump fakes. And also move the defenders off the ball like brett farve does. This would probably take a long time to develop but the pump fakes should help because lee evans and TO are so fast that they can beat a defender even if they get fooled for a spilt second

    That would require some coaching.

  5. SOOOO....Honestly....Who is still happy we got rid of that fat over paid underachieving over rated line now? Our guys are young and there might be a few guys worth keeping. Not sure we have anyone that would start for anyone else but worth keeping.

We have Green Bay to thank for preventing us from having The #1 worst line in pass protection. We are #2 with 16 sacks in 4 games and Green Bay has 20. Of course they have played some healthy real defenses so far. I'm sure Trent agrees with many it was a good idea to not pay Probowl Peters.

As a side note and another jab at Trent Edward apologists, Aaron Rodgers is playing GREAT with an even worse line!!! What is Trent's excuse again?

Trent doesn't have the coaching the Rodgers gets.

  6. Nothing? I think that is over-stating the old goat's impact on the team. Was he not the team owner during 4 straight Superbowls.. and some strong seasons before and after that period? I suggest it isn't Ralph.

It's mediocre coach after mediocre coach... and stiff QB after stiff QB. While Ralph can be held accountable for hiring stiffs, you have to admit that luck is part of the hiring process. When I hire people at work, I know luck is huge. People who interview like rock stars end up being douche bags, and mediocre interviews have led to rock star hires.

Look at all wunder-coaches TBD posters have wanted over the years that have flamed out of the NFL and are eking it out in college or retirement. Luck is part of the hiring process.

Bad QB's are pretty common in the NFL.. sadly, crummy old Trent stinks, but many teams have worse. Luck is part of hiring a QB. Ryan Leif as an example of bad luck..? Really... Belichek was fricken lucky with Brady.

Yes, Ralph's decisions have contributed to the Bills problems. But, honestly, bad luck is probably bigger than Ralph.

RW's best decision was promoting Bill Pollien to GM. Ralph had no idea that Pollien would turn out to be one of the best GM's in football. I other words, Ralph got lucky. It was Pollien who convinced RW to start spending money on players (no cap) and with that Pollien built a super bowl team.

  7. I don't live locally, but I am reading extreme discontent on all forums...

The question is do you ticket holders and local fans have the guts to actually not attend the next game. WHo cares if they win this one, it won't mean we are anywheres near a playoff contender. Not as long as DJ is our HC... and Ralph continues to get away with his cheap coach hiring , and FO hiring ways.

Why not put together and organzie a protest that is bound to get media attention.

Why not goto the game Sunday... Tailgate, but instead of going into the game march circles around the stadium while the game is going on . Carry signs and make some noise outside of the stadium.

The media will notice this and there will be major coverage started if 50% or more of the fans actually avoid going into the stadium to watch a coach they despise, and to grab the attention of the owner they have lost what little respect they had left for.

the botom line is its time to put up or shut up.. .message board complainnig is one thing, but actually making a statement that will get heard loud and clear is the only thing the fans in Buffalo truly have.... make the statement.. Refuse to attend these games, otherwise you can expect more BS shoved down your throats.....

this will probably not matter, but if you check mulitple message boards and start using social network sites for Bills fans this thing has a **** good chance of happening... everyone in the area who can be there needs to particiapte.. You want change like me... demand it !!!!

I hope something does happen... we can't continue like this

I was at a Bills - Redskins game when Rob Johnson was the backup qb. Late in the game, starting qb Ramsey was sacked and injured. The statium (in the middle of a 7 round wave) amlost instantly went silent when we realized Johnson would be coming in. When crowd went nuts and the loudest cheer I ever heard there was when Johnson was sacked.

Monday morning Johnson was released from the Redskins.

Point is to show up and demostrate to RW what you think of DJ by constant, relentless singing for the release of DJ.

  8. We all want Jauron fired. I want Jauron fired. But stop for a moment and ask yourself how easy it would be to flush $9M down the toilet, because that is what we are asking Ralph to do. Flush $9M AND pay $5+ a year for a (supposedly) a good coach. We all think Ralph is made of money but kissing $9M away is not easy to do.

If Dick had any decency he'd take $3M and resign.

    PTR

    BooHooHoo, too bad for Ralph.

He jumped the gun and gave DJ a contract extension way too early last season and now we have to pay for it with crappy play.

When you make a mistake, own up to it, pay the price and fix it!

  9. There are always bad spots, mainly because the officials are human and down at field level which gives them the worst view possible. Couple that with the fact that most officials seems to be somewhere between 100 and 1000 years old and that's a recipe for bad calls. And it will always be that way unless they go to some automated system to spot the ball after each play.

Bad spots happen, but not with the frequency of beneficial spots the Pats get at home. "Just give it to them."

  10. When the Bills signed TO, I thought finally, a big body to help the Bills run the slant route effectively. They ran the slant in the HOF pre-season game and it worked like a champ, what a great addition to the play book. But to my knowledge, they have not tried it since then. Very disappointing...

    That

s because the OC who designed those plays is no longer calling them.

  11. ya but arent these guys a "really good group of guys" and dont they "just need to execute the plays better because they had some opportunities"....same old BS.

"You saw the game, just like I did," Wilson said outside the locker room. "What do you want me to say? What do you say?"

RW to DJ, "Dick, it's been fun but you need to go. And take Brandon with you."

That's what you say Ralph! I know that's what I would say.

  12. thank you for all that you do to support the franchise. if others follow your example maybe one day the inner circle of tards will get the message and field a winner

Buffalo HAS supported this team with record attendance year in and year out. What do we get for it, crap like we saw this Sunday. Ralph has done nothing but hold this area hostage with vailed threats of having to move the team without fan support.

Nothing will change until RW sees an empty stadium! Fire Brandon, Jaron, and the scouting staffs.

  13. problem is cheapo ralph wont pay up for a coach. thats why we get all these 1st timer like williams and mularkey, or complete cast off losers like jauron. we do OK with personnel all things considered then we blow it for a few mill a year skimping on a loser coach

Quality coaches command quality money. Chuck Know left Buffalo because RW wouldn't pay the money to the players Knox wanted. So we got Kay Stevens and Hank Boulcock. Levy was a losing coach when he came here and we lucked out big time with Marv. Around the same time RW promo'd Bill Pollien who just happened to be hanging around the organization (at least that's how it seemed) Again Pollien was a huge factor in the Bill's success and he convinced RW to start paying for players.

Since Levy retired RW has either promo'd from within or brought in assistants on the cheap, leaving bigger names (salaries) to other teams.

The Bills current organization is not setup to challange RW like Pollien did. Will RW pay the 5 mill a year neccesary to bring in a top coach and allow him to make the personnel changes this team sorly needs?

  14. i know every NFL team must deal with injuries but it is week 4 & we could be missing up to 8 opening day starters, i know that r coaching is terrible, but could all those soft practices wand non hitting training camps just leaving our players to be more prone to getting hurt.

Better strenght and conditioning training would reduce injuries (especially to our OL with back injuries) and it would help with the teams ability to finish games.

I remember in the 2-14 seasons, no matter how well the team played in the first 1/2 or 3/4 of the game, they would lose it in the fourth quarter. One reason was conditioning. Once Levy came in and hired Rusty Jones, the Bills played the whole game with energy and injuries were way down.

Losing Jones was a big mistake IMHO!

  15. Sorry, but this is a bullcrap article, proven by this line:

"All those Billeivers who spent $80 on Owens jerseys deserve to hear from him, especially when he and supposed 1-2 punchmate Lee Evans have combined for 13 catches, 186 yards and two touchdowns. "

I'm sorry, but Lee Evans makes more than TO, as do some other players. The fans don't "deserve" to hear from any players or coaches. For the $80 they pluck down on the red white & blue laundry, game tickets, parking etc, the fans deserve a team that is committed to winning. If Tim Graham feels compelled to write an article on what Bills' fans deserve, the reporters should demand to have Ralph Wilson on that podium after every single game and ask him the same questions they asked Owens in the same tone.

Sorry, Tim, you're digging for a story where there isn't one. TO isn't the reason for the fans ire and your story confirms TO's views of the media, especially when Jerry Sullivan is your standard bearer. If he's going to take Owens to task, he should recognize that he's the Ronnie Jones of sports columnists.

    Right ON Brother!

  16. You guys keep talking about Evans & Owens being double covered. I haven't seen the replay of the game, yet on a few isolation shots Owens had single coverage from a CB and definitely had separation. Don't know if there was a safety lurking in the background, but nowhere near the camera angles.

Again, we'll have to rely on eyewitnesses from the game to tell whether the WRs were open, but the ball never went their way. And I'll repeat my concern - Reed is by far Edwards's favorite panic mode WR outlet. If this team wants to have any shot at all, Owens & Evans have to become the primary targets. You cannot hide behind "I'm taking what they're giving me" excuse for much longer.

It looked to me that the Bill's defense was giving the Patriots the "underneath stuff" and Brady took advantage of it. Most of Welker's and Moss's completions were short passes over the middle in the second half. Good offenses make adjustments to their game plan and take advantage of what defenses give them. Who cares how you win the game, as long as you win it!

  17. Thats easy, cause Peters didnt want to play here, and would have done a simular lackluster effort he gave us last year. Not like we had a great line with him, so if you arent succussful with someone, and they dont want to stay, how is keeping them a good thing?

Find out the guy who replaced him doesn't really want to play the positions, and just goes through the motions also. Cut him and actually have players who want to play, and give full effort on the field, rather than ones who just are there to collect a pay check.

I agree! Peters would never be happy in a Bills uniform regardless of how much we overpaid for him. Walker and Dockery had experience, but played overweight, overmatched, overpaid and overthehill.

Hopefully young, hungry, athletes will overcome inexperience.
