  1. This entire scenario is so silly. The county hires an outside consulting firm to study the situation and deal with the Bills in regards to a new lease. As that is going on the Bills are in negotations with the Rogers Communication Group for an extension of their agreement for games in Toronto. Roger's wants TWO regular season games in Toronto so they can build a fan base and sell a 3 game package that will include 1 pre-season game. The Bills are very open to that considering the profit they make for the Toronto games and the diminishing season tickets sales that guarantees small crowds at late Novemeber and December games.

How can Erie County work on a new lease when perhaps only 7 games will be played at the Ralph each year?

  2. we really don't have a true HC. We have an offensive co-ordinator trying to run an entire team. When the Pats scored you could feel the air go out of the Bills. The time called for running plays - smash mouth stuff. Run the ball and the clock. UGH!

  3. retires after the 2012 draft and Doug Whaley takes over at that point aren't things wonderful? IF we pick up some great F/A's and the '12 draft class produces big-time starters Nix goes out a hero with Whaley in on the decisions. IF we get zip in F/A and the draft comes up short we have a NEW GM with a NEW VISION to lead the way. BRILLIANT!

  4. I'd be lying if I said Chan's little use of Spiller and crazy long balls on short yardage situations don't have me concerned. Hope he doesn't try to "save Spiller"tomorrow for next week cuz............

Thank you. When Fred and CJ are averaging over 5 yards per carry and we automatically go into a passing formation with an empty backfield on 3rd and four . . . . it is concerning. Unfortunately, not to the opposition coaching staffs.

  5. I hate 'half the distance to the goal,' especially when a personal foul is involved. It allows a player to take a cheap shot and his team doesn't pay much of a penalty.

My solution is simple, assess the full penalty. If that can't be done put the ball at the 1 like they do for PI in the endzone. Rule would work the same whether it is an offensive or defensive penalty.

Get rid of the half the distance crapola.

I always thought that was a silly penalty too. Not the call - - but - - the penalty assessment. Another thing, in the now pass happy NFL (which is great for the fans) the pass interference assessment just seems too large. An entire game can turn on a judgement call. No other penalty calls can account for 50-60 yards. Why not a 20 yard penalty? If the play was inside the 20 then place the ball at the 1 yard line.

  6. IIRC, Edwards had just been offered the DC job at Florida...and then backed out to take the job on Gailey's coaching staff. No doubt, Gailey appreciates that...he would never fire him mid-season.

Great point! Chan was fired right before the NFL season began by the Chiefs a few years ago. He knows how it feels to be let go at an embarrassing time for a professional coach. I don't think anyone could squeeze anymore out of the D talent we have. People can argue about blitzing but when you watch Batten, Moats, Morrison or Andra Davis they don't have the skills or quickness to do that effectively. If you blitz Barnett all game you are losing your best tackler in the middle of the field. Sheppard is a large work in progress! All you can do with this group is hope for turn-overs and hold on.

  7. IMO the Bills have made talent upgrades this season. The draft class of '11 is very promising, the OL is finally stable and the addition of Nick Barnett saved whatever defense we have.

I have great hope for 2012 except for the Head Coach. We really don't have a true Head Coach. He specializes in running the offense and appears to ignore the effects of their short comings as it impacts the defense and special teams. So many three-and-outs after an incomplete pass, a running play for 4 yards and then another incomplete pass. It's so predictable. We put our struggling defense on the field much, much too often.

We have 2 excellent, possible All-Pro backs behind a solid and big offensive line. Fred and CJ have totaled 1435 yards over 15 games averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Yet, we run the ball less than 5 times per quarter over the season!!!

When crunch time comes against good teams and late in the season a team has to RUN THE BALL. We have shown we can but apparently our coach likes the pass more. Unfortunately, we don't have the talent throwing or receiving to win big games that way. If this type of play calling continues the Bills will keep losing and Chan will find himself of the NFL.

  8. Being a winner in Buffalo means you are in Buffalo...nothing more. Having Toronto as part of the Bills market makes us a legit NFL market. Besides I've been through the Super Bowl era and I know being a winner doesn't guarantee sellouts. I recall several December games, even January playoff games, where either Ch.2 or Ralph himself had to buy the last 5K tickets to lift a blackout.

    PTR

So true. People have short memories about this situation. Season ticket holders don't sign up to buy post season games. They CAN but a lot don't. The famous Houston come back play-off game was blacked out here even as the Bills went 11-5 after two straight SB appearances. W/O Toronto we are NOT an NFL market.

  9. I don't know about that. I always see Wilson flying around and making big tackles on running plays.

Whitner, if I recall, would just get pancaked by RB's, or make tackles 10 yards down field.

I'm not willing to give Whitner any advantage over Wilson. Wilson has made more plays this season than Whitner has in his entire career.

    AMEN!

  10. why wouldnt Jackson be back? unless you think he gets traded bc he has two years left on his deal

the 2011 draft was light years better then the 2010 draft so in that respect yeah they improved

I have no confidence in Chan at this point. His play calling is brutal and sticking with a wide open passing offense when they should be concentrating on running the ball and controling the clock especially with this defense is a huge concern.

What kind of coach doesnt adjust to what his team does best or try and limit their weaknesses?

So true. We really don't have a true Head Coach bringing together a plan for all 3 phases of the game. He seems to seperate the Offense regardless of it's impact on the rest of the game. Not running the ball more is frustrating.

  11. I am surprised that no one here complained about Gailey's stubborn over-use of Tashard Choice. Rarely does anything good happen when he steps on the field.

The more you see him play the more you understand why he changes teams pretty regularly. Chan remembers him from college. He doesn't have the package for the NFL.

  12. Agreed. The turning point for me and Jon Gruden was when I was watching him do a Monday Night game against the Colts and he says about Peyton Manning, "This guy here Peyton Manning, I like to call this guy the sheriff." Really? That's what you call him? Awesome nickname. Ever since, I can't take him seriously. Ask the resident meathead in your office and I'm sure he loves Jon Gruden. That is the demographic he appeals to.

agreed! very true. by being on tv his credibility has taken a serious nose dive!!!!

  13. How about the population of Bills fans in college or younger? All they can remember is total ineptitude.

How do the Bills expect their fan base to grow if they havent been the the playoffs in 12 years? They're absolutely killing a total generation of fans.

that's a huge problem. Old guys like myself have memories of wins and big games. The younger fans (20's and 30's) haven't seen that it person. Until you see your team, in red-white-blue, kicking butt in the NFL for an entire season, for multiple seasons - - -it's just a fantasy.

    GO BILLS!
