  1. I was in a bar for the bears game in the Syracuse area and they had NFL Network on, Direct TV. A message came on at 1pm and said that the Bills game was blacked out due to local broadcast. The stupid thing was that the game wasn't being shown locally live and was instead a taped replay at 7pm on our local ABC.

That kind of rule just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

In any case as a heads up it looks like the exact same thing will be going on in the Syracuse area this Saturday as the guides are showing it as being on ABC at 7pm.

I would go with Richard Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs series, particularly books 2 & 3 (Broken Angels and Woken Furies). Book 1 was "OK" and you don't need to read it to get the other two books, which are just brilliantly written.

They attempted to make a Netflix series out of it but it was just horrible in comparison to the written works.

Read it a few years ago also. Interesting concept but as the series moves along it sort of runs out of steam and gets a bit repetitive.

Enjoy the first one but if you find yourself getting bored eventually, don't feel compelled to keep going.

I had a suspicion that could be the case.

It is a fun premise, and there seems to be room for some good world building, but 15 books does seem like a long way to run with it.

Thanks for the reminder on the Takeshi Kovacs books. I had been meaning to put that on my list.

  3. Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind is very good.

I'll second Dark Tower and First Law trilogy as well as Guns of the South by Harry Turtledove described above.

Song of Ice and fire is excellent but I'd avoid it as it may never get finished.

Just started reading the first book in a series called The Destroyermen by Taylor Anderson.

It is a pretty unique story about a WW2 destroyer that somehow ends up in an alternate Earth where evolution went much differently. I am really enjoying it so far.

  4. Anyone ever play Axis and Allies?

It is like an advanced version of Risk but a WW2 simulation.

Used to play it a ton back in the day with a group of friends. Sometimes we would have to leave the board and come back to it but it was always a great time even if a long game to get through.

  5. Agree with most of the responses in that a move is highly unlikely for many reasons.

The biggest to me seems like it would be a huge "cut off your nose to spite your face" situation for the Pegulas.

I might be wrong but I feel like the vast majority of Bills fans who are still in the WNY area, or spend a lot of time there, would strongly boycott any business the Pegulas have their hands in. I wouldn't even attend concerts at the arena anymore if it could lead to one extra dollar going into their pockets.

Bills mafia are well known for their generosity but also shouldn't be underestimated when it comes to holding grudges. Just ask Bon Jovi. 😀

  6. Voted Bar-Bill out of those choices. The way they brush on the sauce instead of shaking them keeps the wings from getting soggy and is a really unique wing presentation.

I used to think Big Tree was up there as the best too but I have heard from friends that live in OP that it has gone down hill a bit since new ownership took over.

For me though the top place I have to hit if possible every time in town for wings now over the last few years is here:

    https://www.route78streetbar.com/

They have a signature wing they call Bradford style. Kind of a dry rub which I usually don't go for but these are absolutely delicious.

  7. Used to play Halo on Xbox with a handful of Bills.

Xbox had a promotion where you could game with McGahee one night so I added his gamertag to my friends list. I couldn't get in that night but he continued to use it because I saw him online a month or so later and joined his game. Once there I saw a Law36 and Jburns gamertag in the game as well. I assume there were some other Bills or NFL players in the game too as most of the people playing seemed to know each other and were constantly talking smack back and forth but they didn't have obvious gamertags. Milloy must have added me to his friends list after that night because I would get invites to his Halo games all the time after that and played with that crew a bunch of other nights.

Milloy was decent but most of the other guys weren't great. Definitely the only time in my life I could say I was able to compete with NFL players and win most of the time. 😁

just a heads up if you are not doing this just to be nice, I sold my section 135 tickets for $80 a piece on stub hub for this game

    Holy crap!

I couldn't even give my preseason tickets away in 110 a few years ago when I still had them.

Nice to see the season ticket holders finally getting some value out of those preseason tickets now after being held over the coals on those for so many years.

I've said it before, whomever gets it should redo the pricing to this 4 tier structure....

    Your teams games

    Your teams division

    Your teams conference

    All games

    This is a great idea.

They also need to scrap the black out BS. If you are paying for all the games you should get ALL the games.

The traditional cable model is only a generation away from being obsolete so assuming people can just watch MNF on ESPN or catch whatever is on their local channels is going to be a poor assumption soon. The entire idea of paying to watch all of the games for a lot of young people going forward will be that they don't have traditional means to watch the normal broadcasts. The NFL needs to get ahead of that.

In things I've seen about other building collapses around the word, and it usually comes down to the architect not properly calculating the load or forces at work, or the construction not following the pans correctly in in how it was constructed or the materials used (i.e. - improper concrete). There is also a chance that things like wind and salt air were more corrosive than anticipated and nobody designed/built for that. Given that this was built in Miami in the 80s when there was a huge construction boom and it was probably impossible to oversee everything, my money is on someone cutting corners in the construction and it managed to hold up for 40 years before suffering a catastrophic failure.

This all makes sense and I'm sure it will be some flavor of your thoughts.

I would just hope that over the years inspections would start to show some signs of failure in situations like these.

Regardless it is a pretty sad story.

Sincere question:  do we know that for sure?  They said “sold out” but I don’t recall seeing any numbers; it’s possible they had held back a number of tickets?  Has anyone looked to see if more are now available?

That's true. When I was looking for tickets for the first couple games on ticketmaster and secondary sites there didn't seem to be any big gaps where nothing was available but that is just a small observation.

Guess the only way to know for sure is if after this announcement there were suddenly a bunch of tickets available for the opener again but I personally never bothered to check.

What is interesting is they still have on their website as 4 hours before kickoff as the opening of the bills lots.  I mean, parking is big money right now, I think they are charging $30 per car.  If they go to the 10:30 time, two things are going to happen, the bills lots are going to be at most half filled, and it is going to cause quite a traffice jam come 10:30 getting into those lots.

I think it was in the Schedule Release, or a Tickets thread, where a couple of posters mentioned seeing the 10:30 thing on their tickets somewhere.

I got tickets for the WFT game and didn't see anything about lots on there but they are digital so maybe some people had physical tickets? In any case I hope it doesn't turn out to be the case because you're right in that it would likely cause all sorts of logistical issues with crowds and traffic.

Regardless I am just excited to be able to step onto those hallowed grounds again. 2020 was a great season but it was also torture to know myself or any other Buffalo Bills fan was not able to be there to witness it in person and celebrate together.

IMO, expanding the playoffs to 12 will not even out the talent level.

    It will do the opposite.

During the BCs years, no team had an "automatic" by-in for the 1 or 2 spot.

The talent was more spread out.

Nobody knew who the 2 teams were going to be.

Now with 4 teams in the playoffs, is it any coincidence why the same teams keep getting the better recruits?

You think 12 teams will stop that?

Can't wait until the blowouts continue, and then the cries for expanding the playoffs resurface.

Because the only way to fix the problem of crappy teams getting blown out in the playoffs, is to add even more crappier teams.

That definitely could be the way it goes ultimately and likely will be the way it goes in the short term.

We will have to wait and see how it looks 10 years from now if they adopt this format but to me it seems like there is a good chance that if you get another 4 or 5 teams making regular appearances then maybe more recruits will choose one of those teams for a better chance at playing time then to be the second guy off the bench at Alabama. Then from there it could trickle even further down.

Obviously all theoretical but I'd prefer giving that a shot than keeping it how it is.

there’s no reason tailgating shouldn’t be “allowed” (ugh) if the stadium is at full capacity.  Public lots or otherwise.

Yeah, I can't imagine they would try and ban it in any way. My thoughts were more towards the Bills owned lots and what changes there might be including the later opening time.

If the 10:30 lot opening for a 1:00 game turns out to be true it eliminates those lots as an option for me and a lot of people I would think as that isn't really enough time for a proper tailgate.
