  1. The Patriots have NO shot at the SB this year. I'd even go so far as to predict a first round playoff loss, if they get into them.

The Pats are overrated. The Steelers and TN are clearly the best AFC teams so far. I would even bet the Jets have a shot to win the East again. The Pat's D is young, and if Mayo is out for a while they are in some serious trouble, esp. against a team w/ a Qb that can throw the ball further than 20 yards.

  2. There is something very inexact, very subjective, yet completely true about that.

At times, Jauron reminds me of what happens to the bogey golfer who is even par after 13 holes, only to finish with 7s and 8s. A team that's 5-1 ... to finish 2-8. A team that's on the cusp of beating a superior Dallas team on MNF, or beating a bitter rival in the opening game of the season on MNF, etc. 7-9, followed by 7-9, followed by 7-9. Not too good, not too horrible.

Jauron just seems like one of those guys who is most comfortable, most in his element, when things play out as they are expected to, according to plan, i.e., when the world is operating at the mean or regressing toward the mean.

Of course, none of that explains Leodis's fumble, but had he not fumbled, it just seems as though something else would've happened to ensure that things played out as the world expected them to.

If McKelvin dosen't fumble, the Bills go 3 and out, and the Pats still win the game. Also, the Bills D should have prevented the TD on that drive anyway. Yet Jauron lets the Bills play this crappy prevent D which has gotten them killed over and over again.

  3. They lost by one to a team that everyone expected to blow them out from the first snap. Get a grip morons, they did better then anyone expected. One mistake on a return by a second year player who was the best return guy in the league last year, no one expected them to even be close.

Right, were're all morons. I'm sorry Buffalo, we didn't suck as much as we thought we would. Good job guys. Who let Jaruon in here?

  4. They played good football on the road against a tough team and they lost. It's Football. I was entertained! :)

You obvisouly missed the Dallas game in 2007, the Cleveland game in 2008, and were alseep for most of todays game. The Bills got killed in time of possession, plays, 3rd down conversion percentage, they played a crappy game.

  5. Once again I have my heart ripped out by the team that just can't win......or better put, always finds a way to lose if if they should win. I'm suppose to go to next weeks game w/free access to an executive suite etc and I don't even want to go.

    I'm numb.

Jauron is numb also.....all the time.

  6. Given the benefit of hindsight (or is that "Hines"sight ;) ) I def thought Collinsworth was overly-critical of Hines Ward on the fumble play.

Ward is awesome. I wish 1/2 of the Bills had his desire and love for the game. I would say he should have gone down to the turf, but I don't think he saw the defender coming to knock the ball out, all he saw was end-zone.

  7. Spot on, that is exactly what would happen to the Bills.

The other thing, is that becuse of their success, I belive that they usually get the

benefit of the doubt when it comes to officiating, as well.

There were at least three illegal formation penalties that were called after successful

Tennessee plays. They showed the replay, (I think it was the first one), the right tackle

was clearly on the line of scrimmage. I think that this penalty is probaly the one, along with

holding, or blocking in the back on kick-offs, that are used primarily to manipulate games.

That is, of course, if you think that they are manipulated, I belive that there is subtle manipulation.

They are so arbitrary, and non-quantifiable, heck most of the time they don't even bother

to show us replays of the infraction. Probably due to the fact, that there wasn't one.

Then there was the play where, I believe Collins just released the ball, and a Steeler defender

is standing, not running, just to his right, and he knocks him down, when IMO, he had plenty

of time to hold up. No roughing the passer penalty? No doubt in my mind that it gets called

99 % of the time. Just not against the Steeelers, unless it is painfully obvious.

Tennessee should have routed the Steelers IMHO.

hey who let Jeff Fisher in here. There were numerous non-holding calls on Tenn's O-line that would have resulted in sacks or incomplete passes, not to mention the BS pass interference call on Troy when he was going for the Int only to be knocked down by Gates. The officiation was fair.

  8. Hope we don't get to draft 4th. Here's an optimistic look at what happens if we go 4-12.

I could also see going with George Selvie in Round 2 and Geno Atkins in Round 3.

no way Sean Lee drops that far. 2nd round latest. Would be an awesome addition though .

  9. Reeks of an excuse for him to say that this season's results were with a young team, he didn't have much to work with and wait until next year --- just one more year!

This is a sorry excuse and would be a miserable reason to keep DJ on, but Ralph has made worse decisions.... In fact, he made one last year. And again, DJ is holding a three-year contract.

Thing for me is, if we're essentially going to blow it up this year, why on earth didn't/doesn't the FO blow everything up? This team is in such a state of disarray. It's gone on too long to not be able to say that the reason for this starts at the very top. Can only hope that Ralph sees that he doesn't have it in him to do this anymore.

I agree. DJ is trying to set up "excuses" for the teams poor performance. New OC, new offensive line, etc. Scary thing is Ralph might listen and give DJ another year.

  10. However, I couldn't believe DJ spanked the players when they got into a fight. Heck, I was thrilled, as well as the whole of WNY, I wish it could've been an all out brawl just to get some football mentality into these guys.

DJ is a terrible head coach. Finally some sign of life from the players and he stops it. Hopefully Wood, Puzzy, Maybin and TO can bring some nasty back to Bills football.

  11. Who I'd like:

    Gruden

    Cowher

    Shanahan

    Rob Ryan

Russ Grimm - had to go outside the box for one

    Who we'll get:

    Perry Fewell

    Cam Cameron

    Mike Nolan

    Scott Linehan

Love the RUss Grimm idea. He might also fit cost wise for Ralph. He would instill toughness for sure.

  12. If we bring in one of the big name coaches, he's going to want a say in the personnel decisions. I would rather have someone who knows how to actually draft defensive players. Say, that Bill Cowher guy knows how to draft good players.

Now, that being said, if you think Ralph is going to pay Cowher $10,000,000.00 a year, and hand over football operations, you are certifiably bat-sh*t crazy.

    We'll end up with:

    a) Dick Jauron.

    b) Bobby April.

    c) The Cleveland Browns TE coach.

Crap. We'll prob end up with ©.

  13. God and I live down here with these Steeler fans, this was just friggin pitifull. When DJ comes out of his coma, I at least hope he shows some emotion when hes fired, god willing, it will be soon. Granted I dont see every Bills game like a lot of posters here but heres some of my observations. Trent Edwards is not going to take this team to the next level. Third year and Im seeing him regress, not take the next step like a Philip Rivers, Rogers or Roethlisburger. Donte Whitner is a flat out turd. I have never seen him make any play of consequence, like a big hit, or big interception return. Though JP wasnt going to take us to the next level, at least he could air out the bomb to Evans so we could score occasionally. Does anybody in their right mind think this offense and Captain Checkdown are going to march methodically down the field on long drives? The line needs totally revamped, maybe move Woods to center(he only started 4 years at center at Louisville), get Bell in at LT move Langston to RT, move Butler to G and whoever is left to the other G. Levitre is not ready to start and I dont see what they saw in him to move up to get him. I hope the new coach comes in and blows up this roster, comes in the first meeting and tells the players the reason they've been losing is because of lot of them just are not good enough. Cuts Kelsay day 1. Trades away Roscoe and Reed and uses that 6 million for a real receiver. Finds a replacement for Kyle Williams, cuts Shobel and Denney. The bright spot tonight is my mind is were gonna suck and suck bad. I just hope we suck bad enough to get one of those top QBS coming out in the draft next year. God this is gonna be a loooooooooooooooooooooong year.

I live in Pittsburgh also. It is painful to watch the difference. Both are in similar cities. One team is run by people who understand football, the other by morons. Get rid of Jauron NOW. Look at the difference between him and Tomlin. One understands football and has passion for the game.

  14. Let's hope Jauron goes through this metamorphisis and emerges from the cocoon a brand spanking new winning coach. Hell he was stuck by lightning one year in Chicago.

Jauron will be gone by mid-season.

I think the season starts to turn around when Bobby April is the coach. Unlike Jauron, this man has been a great success and his players are always prepared, pumped-up and ready to go.

  15. If I was criticizing a team like Pittsburgh, the Giants, or the Colts, that's one thing. Those teams more often than not make the right on and off field decisions. The Bills have defied logic, what with 30 other NFL teams having made the post-season since 2000.

I go to the games to be with friends second and watch football first. Perhaps that's revolutionary, but I can't stand to lose. And lately all the team has done is find ways to lose. After 9 years, Bills fans deserve more than hope. They deserve results and doing things the same way may give hope before a season, but it won't produce results in-season.

There is no substitute for victory. A wise man once said that.

This is a fantastic post. Anyone who thinks the Bills will make the playoffs is insane. What's the definition of insanity: doing the same thing and expecting different results. The Bills have been making the same lame moves personal wise and play calling wise for a decade. Expecting a different result is insane. I will believe it when I see it.

    GO BILLS.

  16. I would love to see (but am far too lazy to compile myself) a similar list for what I consider to be the "model" franchises, which are, in my view:

    1) Giants

    2) Ravens

    3) Titans

    4) Patriots

    5) Eagles

    6) Colts

    7) Chargers

    8) Packers

    9) Bears

You clearly left off the Steelers, who by all accounts are up with the Pat's for best franchise this decade. They draft well & coach well.

  17. would you people STFU about preseason games. The Lions went 4-0 in the preseason last year and finished 0-16. nothing in the preseason means anything. IDK if they scored 1000 points or -00000 points its preseason for crying out loud....

Actually the preseason IS important, particularly for this years Bills. The final score is not important, but preseason is an important baramoter of how your starters play against other teams starters. So far, the Bills have continued their general inability to score TD's with the first team offense. This is concerning, particuarly given the fact that they have looked UNPREPARED to play, despite opening camp a week before other teams. Jauron is fully to blame for their continued lack of prepardness. They are about to get their asses handed to them by the Steelers 3-4 D.
