  1. There are plenty of reasons to criticize EJ, but this is a real stretch.

You continually defend EJ even when there is absolutely zero evidence that he will ever be a franchise QB. I hope he emerges from the darkness some day, but I doubt it. We would probably not skip a beat with either of our backups even though there is also no evidence for that. Gonna be a long year.
  2. I think Fear the Losing has it pretty much right. It's go-time,for EJ and Hackett and no excuses. The back-up QB situation is vexing me and just plain stupid on the FO's part.

I think the backup QB situation will be a lot different in a couple of weeks. Thad will probably be cut. A new & more experienced QB will be picked up, think Ponder, who will be #3 for about the first 6 games & then perhaps moved up to #2. Then you will no longer be vexed.
  3. He strongly implied that because of his "low completion rate" that he was NEVER going to be any good, which to me smells a lot like BUST.

And for the poster who said i can't compare him to brady, Your right. I'd have to wait till he's played in the league for 10 + years. which is my point. He's only played 10 games to say ANYTHING definitve about him at this point is premature.

Which is why I was so irritated with SAL yesterday. you can't know that he's NEVER going to get any better and the statement that low 60's is NOT very good, when clearly it is.

THE HIGHEST I could fnid is peyton manning. at 65%.

Does he need to win? YES. Does he need to throw touchdowns? YES. IS he as has been said repeatedly all over the airways an innaccurate passer? NO.

He is AS accurate as several QB's who are first year Hall of famers. IF his current completion ratio holds up over his career. I am not saying that it will. I am not saying that it won't. I'm simply stating that its too early to tell.

He is AS accurate as several QB's who are first year Hall of famers. Only if you you go by completion %s. EJ is not a bust. He is inaccurate unless he is throwing square ins (button hooks). When he is throwing to a moving target, he is inaccurate. When he is moving outside the pocket, he is inaccurate.

Can he be a good QB ? Perhaps. But , if he isn't accurate, it will be very difficult for him to be a franchise QB. Just my humble observations & opinion.

  4. You hit the trifecta -- predictions of EJ failure, EJ injury, and the ever-present "hope I'm wrong" disclaimer. Well done!

Why the sarcasm when the poster is simply giving his humble opinion ? The posters on this board want to either give EJ more time or "throw the bum out". Why are you so quick to throw Tuel out after just one start? I don't know where the Tuel experiment will go, but I too, just like our coaches, see something in him that says he may make it.
  5. This is well said. If he played lights out with his opportunity, then I could understand all the hype.

But he's just been average. Last year we gotta be honest, he was way below average.

This first preseason he was decent. By now way lights out. Gave up 2 sacks. (Ok maybe not him, but it happened on his drives)

1 td 1 int 12/17 74 yards. Higher percentage compared to last year, I'll credit that.

Last year his percentage was 44% with a rate of 45.

In all fairness his yards per completion for hof game was only 6. Short passing game basically. A lot of qbs can do that... I'm just saying.

I dont want this guy to fail, believe or not. But at this time, August 2014, he has not shown the greatness that tuel supporters feel he has.

I don't think anyone is saying that he is great. Some of the posters just feel that at this point in time, T seems to be playing better than EJ. We shall see.
  6. No, thank you, thank you for bringing to the forefront of what it's like to be and what there is to love being a Bills' fan. What I enjoyed about your post the most, other than just witnessing your pure love, passion and adulation for our favorite team, is that it was completely a positive experience being a Bills' fan. Too often we clamor towards the negatives of being a fan. I will say that it mostly comes from our worries and fears from not succeeding, which has been going on way too long. CBF, I can honestly say that you are one of the great additions to this fraternity that we all find ourselves in. I can't ever remember reading anything negative, derogatory or abusive in your posts and responses. For this I thank you and greatly appreciate it, you are a great example to immulate and your participation is not only welcomed but more so it's valued. Thanks again for reminding me why I have been such a loyal fan of this organization, it has given me an identity that is not only unique but also personal.

I, like you, live afar. You see I live in SW Florida for the past 20+ years. I actually live in Fort Myers, home of Sammy Watkins! How cool is that?!! Matter of fact the city of Fort Myers gave Sammy the key to the city last Friday night. The Mayor Randy Henderson happens to be a friend of mine, our sons are good friends and went through Little League and high school baseball together. I really wanted to go but as of now I got bronchitis and thought better of it. I bring this all up because I was thinking of all you. I had a perfect opportunity and it slipped through my hands. My point is this, it had greater value to me because I couldn't wait to share it with all of you. I know what it would have meant to so many of you, hearing an experience with our exciting new super star but I failed you. I feel worse about it because I let my fraternity brothers and sisters down, not so much about missing the experience personally.

I better cut this short, I'm doing this all by an IPhone and it's torture. I could go on and on but I probably already been long winded enough. Thanks again CBF for refreshing who I am. I look forward to an exciting and hopefully a very successful season this year but truth be told that no matter what happens I'll still be thinking about my Bills everyday, waiting for that long awaited moment when that Lombardi Trophy gets hoisted up there in Western New York!

    Go Bills!

We live in Ft. Myers for 6 months each year. We love your city.
  7. While I have gotten the NFL Sunday ticket all the bells, whistles for free (fan pack, etc), and at various reduced prices over the past decade. Still, the Bastages flat out refuse to upgrade the DVR's to the genie for free. My contract is up this September and we will see if they wish to retain my business or not. Meaning I fully expect to finally get a new genie, and the Sunday ticket for free this upcoming season. After this season the next few years will be debatable on what discounts I can get.

Just ask to speak with a supervisor, and let them know they will lose your business if they don't make you happy. Then they usually go the extra mile.

I live half the year in Florida. I have two separate accounts with DTV. I called them in order to merge the two accounts into my Buffalo account. Previously, I received the Genie in FL for free by simply asking for it as they have these deals for new customers and I wanted the same deal.

After they merged the two accounts, I asked for the Genie in Bflo. They gave me the Genie for free & they "threw in" Sunday ticket for free. That was without asking. They also offered me free HBO for three months which I turned down. Just be nice.

If you get a tough guy on the line, hang up & call back to speak to a different agent.

    Good luck.

  8. Yep. I don't see it. There are way too many variables (Oakland and SD among them) for this to really work unless you have a crazy multi-billionaire who is prepared to do this at all costs. I'm not saying that that person doesn't exist, but it's just as likely that the NFL doesn't want to work with someone who is hell-bent on killing a brand regionally for six years just to court the LA market long-term.

I mean, there are empty stadiums, but there is also the prospect of destroying all the regional interest that has been cultivated state-wide and north of the border.

I see Toronto as really the only viable relocation prospect, and the one to get nervous about -- mostly because I could see the league buying and selling the notion that Toronto is in the same regional base as Buffalo.

    Another good point.

If some knucklehead wants to offer $2B for the Bills, I could see the Rams or Jags owner calling him up and offering the franchise for $1.8B.

Has anyone sounded out Warren Buffett on purchasing the Bills? I would think that the Bill's leaving would be a bad thing for his Buffalo businesses.
  9. Hate to be negative-- BUT! I was on the "Responsible Dome Action Committee" back in the late 60's. Had more than enough signatures to build. Free land and near the airport. Politics screwed that up. Dems against-- Republicans for and the mayor voted it down. Yup he was a Dem. It all will come down to politics. What a shame.

The Reps & the Bflo News wanted a stadium in the burbs. The Dems & the Courier Express wanted it downtown. Downtown would have worked fine but this was right after all the city riots in the late 60's & very few people wanted to build in an urban area. I was for the burbs at the time. In retrospect, I think downtown would have worked better than O.P. Just my humble opinion.
  10. He isnt overhauling his mechanics.....he is fine tuning them

I swear to christ people act like he went out on the field and the ball kept falling out of his grasp on every snap.....there are very SPECIFIC things EJ needs to work on and that is what he is improving this offseason

    - Deep passes were getting better by the end of the year

    - Intermediate passes were never in question

    - Needs to trust his receivers to fight for balls (and that comes with reps)

Trusting his receivers has a lot to do with confidence. As a rookie, he didn't exhibit much confidence in throwing to receivers with DB's near by. Hopefully, with a year under his belt he will gain this confidence.
  11. I qualified my statement in my next post. I certainly never said or thought Flutie was a bust. I would have started him in the PO game :wallbash: RJ was a joke and I never liked him at all. Just for the record.

I haven't looked up his stats, but if you discount that one year in SD when they were one of the worst teams in football, I'll bet that Flutie's winning % is in the top 10% in NFL history.
  12. You have to look at the delta in the draft class and the opportunity to draft a player with similar potential later in the draft.

Foolish people get caught up with the number of the draft pick. There is no guarantee that #3 draft pick is better than #4 or the #104 draft pick. The Bills only statement that matters is wins. Moving up is a meaningless statement if they do it for a player you can easily find later in the draft.

Generally if you spend two 1sts on one player it better be a franchise QB or a once in a generation player.

Clowney has been hyped since he was 16 years old as that type of player. I can't tell you if he is or not but a player with that type of potential would be an exception to the 2 1sts for a QB rule.

Trading up two 1sts for a RT, TE or LB would be beyond stupid. As much as Robinson, Ebron, and Mack are hyped. There are players that will be pro-bowl players at Rt, TE, and LB that are drafted in the 3rd round of the 2014 draft. You'd basically be spending extra picks on ESPN hype.

The Bills would be smart not to fall in love with any particular player. Trade down - get another 2 & maybe a 6. I agree with the poster who said that we must keep our 2015 #1 just in case EJ busts. 5 picks in the 1st 4 rounds sounds a lot better than 5 picks in the 1st 6 rounds.

Clowney the guy with the great measurables doesn't seem to be as good as Clowney the football player. Not saying that he is a bum. Just saying that there are players out there that could very easily be better players over the next 5 or 6 years. Kony & Donald come to mind.

  13. PTR - Have you been to Niagara Falls ? You've posted this map a couple times, the stark reality is without MAJOR upgrades to the highway system, traffic in/out of games would be a nightmare. I'm not saying it can't work, but it would require a significant investment in infrastructure. The map you are posting is misleading, I'll explain below:

To get to Buffalo (and places south or east), there is ONE two-lane highway that leads from downtown NF east toward Wheatfield/Tonawanda -- that two lane highway splits and goes over Grand Island bridges, which, by the way, back up when there is little or no traffic. The highway continues toward Tonawanda for another 5 miles and STOPS. At that point, you have a one lane road that follows the Niagara River. All the other options you highlight are CITY streets with many intersections and traffic lights. The only other viable exit towards Buffalo on your map is the Niagara Falls Boulevard, which has at least 20 lights before you would get through he Tonawandas and the first highway option at the 290.

So, in summary, NF has the land, needs the investment, but does NOT currently have the infrastructure to support a stadium.

NYS could waive tolls on Sunday game day mornings. This would help alleviate traffic concerns.
  14. I don't think anyone is actually leaking info. I understand the theory of a smokescreen and what it would hope to accomplish. But no GM in their right mind is going to believe any of the supposed leaks they hear in the media. They (meaning all the GMs) know that none of their colleagues are going to believe any of it either, which makes the entire smokescreen process pointless.

In my opinion (and obviously that's all it is), there is no smokescreen. There is simply no point to it.

But there is a point. A whole industry - the Advertising business is about influencing behavior.. If you hear something long enough & often enough, you start to believe at least some of it. If this weren't so, there would be no Ad business.
  15. and ... ?

    jw

The Bills do not have the necessary assets to trade up. They have only 6 picks. Teams like SF with many extra picks will trade up using these assets without hurting their depth picks. After trading up, SF will still have as many or more picks than the Bills. We would be better off not falling in love with one of the top 6 players & trading down. We would then have 5 picks in the 1st 4 rounds in what has been described as a very deep draft.
  16. If you are a BUFFALO Bills fan then you will not root for the Toronto Bills (or whatever they change the name to). Did people in Cleveland root for the Ravens? No. Anyone rooting for a Bon Jovi owned Bills team is a traitor

I grew up in the NYC area as a Brooklyn Dodger fan. When they left, I stayed a Dodger fan. Perhaps, that was because Buffalo doesn't have a major league team. Many friends became Mets fans.

I also grew up a NYG football fan. After moving to Buffalo, I became a Bills fan. A lot has to do if one's community has a team or not, I guess.

  17. That is what I would love to see in Buffalo. Never liked the CJ pick esp at #9. I wouldnt' gripe if we took a really good RB that could maybe carry the rock 20+ x per game. Get a road grader at RT along with LB and TE in this draft and we might be on track. I will never gripe at a pound the ball approach. Many want 'exciting offense'. I find making the playoffs exciting and would really find winning a superbowl very exciting

Nope I meant down. We have seen guys drop before and we have at least 3 teams ahead of us or so that need QB's. If we trade down and miss him then we do I can live with that. Id love to have 2 2nd rounders this year as deep as the draft is

There is a good chance that Matthews will be the 2nd player off the board.. Quit dreaming of trade downs & picking up a top 5 player. I agree with the trade down, but please be realistic in who will be available.
