I wonder why it hasn't been mentioned that the Bills have made almost every key player on this team available to the press (including Siran Neal, I Hodgins, and Dean Marlowe) but not Trent Murphy.  That seems extremely telling.

Trent isn't big on interviews. Even when the locker room was open, pre-COVID.

He was always rushing off to somewhere, weight room, treatment, practice. I took no offense. It's just the way he is.

    so so informative. Thanks Wawrow.

Would you rather not me provide some insight in regards to what I'm learning in regards to simply confirming that there is actual uncertainty in regards to Trent Murphy from the team and that a decision has already been made in regards to his status.

it would have been easy to think so, but the mixed messages provided in their explanation of why they made the move, and the severe cuts that followed doesn't exactly raise confidence in how this team is being operated, and whether the focus is purely on winning.

I haven't posted on this board in years, so I'm not sure if this topic has been posted recently.

I was reviewing the list of players and other members of the front office named on the Bills Wall of Fame and I got to wondering what other names you would like to see named?

Here's five that I would like to see added:

    1. Chuck Knox - At the time, he brought respect to the organization the moment he was named HC, after a decade plus of disastrous play.

    2. Lou Saban - He lead the team to two AFL Championships.  Enough said.

    3. Bobby Chandler - My sentimental pick. As a guy that grew up in the 70's he was the guy that I always mimicked when playing ball in the backyard.

    4. Rueben Brown - 9X Pro Bowl Guard from the post Super Bowl Era.

    5. Cornelius Bennett - The missing link needed on defense to put the organization of  the hump and bring 4 consecutive AFC Titles.

    https://www.buffalobills.com/team/alumni/wall-of-fame

ummmm, not sure if this has been mentioned, but Saban's already on it.

Bennett has been considered, but his off the field issue stood and may continue to stand in his way.

Since @john wawrow drops in here occasionally, I'm going to ask if his viewpoint on Duke changed between Sept 4 and Oct 14th?  If he sees, he'll answer.

I think Wawrow may be speaking to the "over the top" fan claims or expectations that we have our OBJ or AJ Green now, which still continue.  I like the way Duke played against the Titans, and he totally "took advantage of his opportunities".  But 4 receptions for 29 yds does not an OBJ-in-waiting make.  It doesn't even make a Robby Anderson.  It doesn't mean the Bills still don't have a need for another top WR.  I could be wrong, I'll take my plate of crow if I am.

On the other hand, the whole " If he was so good, why did none of the 31 other NFL teams put in a claim on him" logic is obviously flawed.  There are far too many players floating around on cutdown day a single FO to scout accurately on how they have progressed through preseason - and Duke did not do anything much in preseason.  Priority goes to guys teams liked when they scouted them pre-draft and have seen some flashes from.

Every year guys who were cut, passed up on by 31 teams, and signed to a practice squad get called up and out-perform guys who started the season on that or another 53 man roster.  It's not a super-rare event like a white buffalo or something.

I'm not sure anyone saw enough from Duke given what he did in preseason games against second- and third-string defenses. He also got off to a slow start in training camp.

He did enough to merit addition to the practice squad. And then, according to those I've spoken to, he continued to develop in practices and scout-team situations.

GM Brandon Beane told The AP this week he fielded and rejected trade offers for Jones in the preseason.

Jones' inability to carve a niche and produce in new-look offense, plus Duke's development led to what happened last week.

I believe the Bills like what they see in Duke, but much like Foster's rise last year and mostly disappearance this year, it remains to be seen how things develop.

Let's remember, there were a lot of no-namers on the Fitz-magic quarterbacked teams. Few, save Stevie Johnson, made a lasting impact.

  7. Let's straighten out some comments made about me in the since closed Clowney thread.

Badobilz erroneously posted that I had "claimed there was nothing to the AB rumors (when there clearly was) ..."

Well, that's just plain wrong. In fact, I refuted rapppapapaports report as being totally wrong and that the Bills were not closing in on acquiring AB. I noted that there had been some discussion between the Bills and Steelers about a trade, but it never got very far, and by the time rrappppappapaort reported the trade was apparently near done, he couldn't have been further from the truth.

The trade had in fact fallen apart days earlier.

Of course, there is this narrative here that the locals never get anything like that.

    Well, that's baloney, too.

More often than not, the locals are refuting much of the speculation that's out there, such as this Clowney to Buffalo baloney.

let's move on to 3dening suggesting that citing someone in the organization as shaking their head on the Clowney trade is some way of me not "being tied down."

that's baloney, too. i've consistently reported that there is nothing to this clowney to buffalo talk. in fact, the first time i tweeted about it, the response I got was "LOL" from someone familiar with the situation.

accuracy certainly isn't a big thing regarding some on this board. similar to the wannabes trying to sell you something they don't know about clowney and the bills.

    pfffft.

Thanks John, always appreciate your posts.  Couple follow up questions

    1. Is this person someone that for sure would know in the first place, or is it possible Beane is working on this and source wouldn't necessarily know yet?
    2. Lets assume he would definitely know, wouldn't it make more sense for them to say no at this stage since its not done?  Or would this person always tell you the true answer no matter what?

Just curious to the weight of their response...thanks again John!

I only post citing people whom I trust and are in a position to know.

One more thing: If Brandon Beane was so busy involved in all these trade talks, why did he spent a good half hour doing one on one interviews with a whole host of reporters following practice today?

I honestly don't know, but it being Buffalo, I have a hunch that fans will figure something out.

It's not really fear-mongering though, and in any event do you REALLY think that's the purpose of this particular piece? I certainly don't think so, and I've read it a couple of times. As I've said above, it's the first I've read about the stadium money carve-out, and I think it's an interesting issue. He explained it clearly and well, at least in my opinion.

Wait, Dave, I missed this a while back and just catching up.

I've re-read the piece and florio is once again beating a dead horse of a drum, by making sure to spur unsubstantiated fear in Buffalo, because much like cowherd, he gets his kicks out of doing it.

It's a simple and lazy trope. Find the smallest  market team that was supposed to be moving after Ralph Wilson died, realize you were wrong in predicting they would move, and carry the narrative forward by finding yet another reason to punt the ball forward.

Let me get this straight, florio is actually suggesting that should the Players Association have a say in where teams should be located by having the right to fund new stadium construction, then the Bills future in western New York is in jeopardy.

I'm not sure I know of any business model in which a union can dictate these terms.

Heck, I'll fund building an AP bureau in Fiji just so I can work there.

What florio conveniently continues to ignore and overlook are numerous things:

The Pegulas aren't going to move the team.

Lease agreement non-relocation clauses. They can't be rendered moot simply because players prefer playing in Hawaii.

Relocation is also a matter for the NFL's board of governors. I don't see this conservative group of business people suddenly carving out room at the table in providing players a voice on where they should play. Amusing as it would be, I don't foresee Antonio Brown using an air balloon to arrive at the next owner's meeting, proposing the Raiders avoid moving to Vegas and instead relocate to oh, I don't know, Paris.

That Buffalo was used as the example moving forward is florio's MO, in which he conveniently overlooks the case that the Jacksonville Jaguars are considered to be a larger favorite to move than the Bills ever are. And yet, to bring up the Jaguars, it would ruin his point, because the players like Florida.

The fact that those are at all considered "hindsight wins" from an apologist perspective really speaks more to how effective Anthony Lynn was with a banged up WR corps in 2016 than anything.

I don't think there was ANYONE here who thought that Taylor was a long term QB solution or that Gillislee was an every down force waiting to happen.

The bottom line is that Bills offense has gone from excellent to gawd-awful under McDermott.

Mike Tolbert and Chris Ivory were laughingstock level producing #2 RB's.......McCoy has been way under league average per carry for two years after averaging 5.4 under Lynn.......Dennison and Castillo got canned already and Culley nudged out the door.....and when McD replaced Taylor with Peterman.........wha' happint?? KTFO.   Oh and AJ McCarron!

Suffice to say large mistakes have been made on that side of the football by McD and Beane.

The tangible success of the McDermott regime has been almost entirely on the defensive side of the ball so far.

So maybe look up the people who were outraged at the Zach Brown departure?   Gilmore and Darby got rings now so probably don't want to go down that hole.    Though I like Harrison Phillips(who Bills got with Darby pick) and hope he steps up and pushes Lotulelei(another Whaley gem?) to the curb.

ok. here's how i really can't take you seriously.

it's this suggestion that the "bills offense has gone from excellent to gawd-awful under McDermott."

you say this with a straight face?

the bills, only by virtue of LeSean McCoy, Eric Wood and Richie Incognito -- and a one-dimensional, running quarterback -- ranked 11th and 16th overall in net yards offense under Rex Ryan. but it had very little to do with passing. the bills ranked 27th and 30th behind the tyrod, and that's with a far more talented receiving core than what the team's had under McDermott.

oh, we can even go back to the magnificent Orton era, when the Bills finished 18th in yards passing and 26th in total yards.

what is this offensive juggernaut that you speak of that preceded McDermott. where were these receivers which during everyone's fantasy draft clamored they wanted to pick in the first round? pray tell, how often bills fans -- not you, of course -- celebrated 100 yard receiving games, 1,200 yard receiving seasons, and Tyrod firmly entrenched in teh 4,000-yard, 35-TD a season club.

you bring up Mike Tolbert and Chris Ivory, i'll counter with the unstoppable three-headed monster of Fred Jackson and Anthony Dixon and CJ Spiller in 2014 that inspired fear in every D-line they encountered. that was the year Hogan, who once played lacrosse, essentially clinched his spot on the wall of fame with 41 catches for 426 yards and a whopping total of four tds,

or how about we refer to the 2016 season, when Charles Clay led the team with 57 catches. and let's not forget Walt Powell. well, ok, let's.

however you want to put it, it's evidently clear how these Bills have certainly regressed.

oh, where have you gone Leonard Hankerson?

But that isn't what JW did. As the thread progressed he suggested those moves were a necessity while making excuses for those moves along the way.

no, i was actually providing informed context behind why the moves were made.

you can call them excuses, if you will, but i'm merely citing why they were made as they were being made.

    some might call them reasons.

I don't owe Wawrow any apology.  I criticized his article because I felt that he was simply repeating "the company line" from the Bills FO and he took exception to that.  That's fine.  It's a discussion.  Since then, however, he's personally insulted me at least twice.  He's also personally insulted/attacked other posters who dared criticize his views.  In this thread, he's repeatedly wrapped himself in his professional connections/knowledge when making his case for his views, but he's repeated sunk to ad hominem attacks on those who disagree with his views.  That's most unprofessional.

PS -- I'm not surprised that you're taking up his cause since you, too, apparently have difficulty with opinions that don't mirror your own.

hey, bubba. i didn't start this thread.

but since it reflects and outlines the views I expressed, i've chosen to take part in it.

    1. i thought i personally insulted you at least three times.

    2. i also personally insulted one other poster, whose coat-tails you appear to be riding, as you've really offered up little that's original to this discussion.

    3. the above is not an ad hominem attack as it pertains directly to the discussion we're having.

    4. you're not criticizing an article, but instead a series of tweets that were shared.

    5. at least i have a profession to be unprofessional, unlike you it seems.

    6. that would be me personally insulting you a fourth time i believe.
