  1. Will Watkins be a stud? Absolutely. The kid is extremely talented. As Whaley said Bills would not have won a few games without him. The value though can be argued. Was he worth giving up next year’s first round pick? I seriously doubt it. Coming into this draft we all knew two things (1) This was an extremely talented WR class and (2) EJ has accuracy issues (going back to his draft this was a huge issue coming out of FSU for him). We would want a big receiver so he can catch everything near him. If accuracy is an issue would you not want a big guy who can go and get it? Watkins can catch….pretty damn good but from he seems he does have a durability issue (this could be a fluke). I am not saying he is not a tough kid. You can play through injuries and be called tough but if you’re always hurt what good does it do? This all in comparison to the other first round WR pics. So it begs the question did we need to give so much for a Watkins when Evans could have been on the board or easily getting Beckham. Currently Watkins is on the bottom of the first round WR when it comes to production. I put a huge blame on our inept offensive coordinator as well who is in way over his head and a head coach that cannot manage game and players. This does not mean Watkins will not be good for us but we have to take into account the people making decisions may not be evaluating our players to the fullest. In 2012 we took T.J. Graham and 6 spots after Russel Wilson was taken. We let Stevie go and took on M. Wiilliams. While we gained a pic from Stevie we lost one on Williams but taking a bigger cap hit. On top of that the lack of information on Williams not playing has been questionable. Our decision makers have got to change. We need proven winners in our system in order for us to win.
  2. Yeah...I realized after I posted the link someone else beat me to it.
  3. Hopefully this is not a rumor but a forecast of things to come. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl/news/20121227/black-monday-nfl-coaches-2012/?sct=uk_t11_a5
  4. At least the Pats are trying to address their issues. We have had WR issues since last year. We let Roscoe go, even if he was injury prone, he was a threat when he did have the ball. I do hope that Buddy is working a trade or something because we will not be able to compete at the highest level with this corps.
  5. Troup to IR is not surprising. He was another pic of Nix. Have to learn to set the expectation low so that you won't be dissapointed. Spiller is a bust. Troup is a bust. Hiring of Edwards as OC is a bust. Even if Spiller has one break out game, so what? He has still proven he cannot read defenses and cannot run between the tackles. Poor man Reggie Bush/untility player. Troup was another reach. Let's see what Nix does in his 3rd year.
  6. In light of Merriman's move to IR let's look at Nix's moves: - 2010 Draft they by pass needs on defense and QB for a reach at Spiller who has done minimal. This could have been forseen as Spiller and Bush are same RB 'scat back' that Nix and Gailey wanted so much. I have no problem saying that Spiller is a bust and was great in college but this is the pros. If you can't learn to run straight betweeen the tackles by now then there is a bigger issue here. Nix wanted Spiller to succeed so they could cut Jackson. You don't take a first round RB and not want to start him. Jackson is doing well and benching him would only cause a problem. Look for Bills to procrastinate on Jackson's contract. They will say he's 30 and wants to0 much money. Spiller to start for Bills next year while Jackson goes to another team. - The so called QB competition when they obviously wanted to give the job to Edwards. Reason they talked about competition was to really please media and fans to make it look like they cared. Reality was they were hoping Gailey's QB magic would work on Edwards rather than looking at the tape of previous years on Edwards and seeing that he was not starter material. Bills love mediocrity and Fitz fits that mold. We'll prob lock him up for a few years. If Cam was on the board he would have been a Bill but there was no way to go wrong with out #3 pick. With the new CBA agreement structuring out rookie contracts Ralph Wilson prob got a hard on for the first time by not paying the high gauranteed money. -Merriman was on decline in San Diego after injuries....Nix picked him up. Great move for leadership but leadership only goes so much if ur not on the field to back up the talk. The light has gone out. Point is this was a Nix decision. -I am 50/50 if Nix gives the $ Stevie is looking for. We do need him but depends on what he's asking. Nix as GM has made some very questionable moves and while the Bills are doing well it mostly part to Gailey's system and these players showing they belong. I love all these guys and what they stand for. Nix does not have the 'eye' for talent and has proven that....why do we have him? He's cheap, old school, and will ask daddy's permission before making any type of move. Be weary of the future.
  7. ESPN just put this article out. With all the message boards, news articles, TV reports who is reading all of that makes a difference? We all watch/go to the games so what will make a difference? If Juaron loses on Sun to the Browns will all the boos wake Wilson up? He's been in the business for so long he knows what is going on. Something has got to give.... http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/i...mical-4-percent
  8. Excuse my ignorance if i'm wrong on this. Forget about Maybin. In fact offer him a minimum and if doesn't take it let him go to next year's draft. Take that rookie money and offer to a free agent or restricted FA like Peppers (before you all jump on me and say i'm crazy for saying he'll come to Buffalo i'm just using as an example). I would much rather take some FA money plus the rookie money and give it to proven vet who we know can put fear into an opposing QB rather than an uproven rookie who will not be able to produce after a year or two and leave after 4. Why can't we do that? I say from now on offer rookies a 7 or 8 year contract. The first two or three is minimum salary with incentive clauses. No worries on bust picks. If they produce after a year then escalations kick in and they earn their money as well as respect of vets, coaches, and fans. I may be off on this but it only takes one team to start it before others can follow. It also allows smaller market teams to get more competitive. Am i wrong?
  9. Please excuse my ignorance on this subject. I am not claiming to know about contract talks or the business of the NFL. I do personally think that draft picks getting paid more money than vets is ridiculous. They have not proven themselves or earned anything in the NFL. My suggestion is why pay the money? Why even bother? Whether it's a #1 or #32 pick offer them the same salary but base the bonuses and guaranteed money on incentives. Offer a 7 or 8 year contract where the first two the three years is at the minimum salary. If a certain player gets, for example, rookie of the year then escalate the bonuses. Make them earn it. If they don't take the offer, in Maybin's case, take that money and offer it to a DE like Peppers (before all u jump on me and say that Peppers would never come to Buffalo please note I am using this him as an example). Free agent money plus some of the rookie money would go into Peppers contract, hell with Maybin.....let him sit out for a year and enter the next draft. Buffalo wins cause we get a proven top notch player in Peppers and Maybin will prob get screwed for not taking the deal. Realistically these players are about $$$ and 'taking care of their families' so a kick in the butt would be a reality check. Earn your paycheck like the rest of the country does. Again I am just throwing this out there for people to talk about. I am sure the NFL players union will have a lot to say on this but in the end you earn the respect of veterans, the fans, and earn your money. It will take a few teams to actually implement but in the end it would be better for smaller market teams to get players.
  10. Hello McFly!???? Is Russ sleeping? We have a glaring need at tight end and Tony G gets traded for 2010 pick! Tony G would have been a respected figure in the locker room that Bills need. His leadership and experience would have helped out. I'm not saying it would have solved all our problems but it would have been nice to get TE with his pass catching skills. There are parts to a puzzle and until the management starts to get leaders and winners (starting with the coach) we will always have the same issue with no identity. We need a coach who knows how to lead, how to coach, and most of all proven. Since Levy we have not had one coach who has proven leadership, only nice guys and losers. Time for the management to step up and show the league that we belong.
