  1. That's right, it was 2004. Drew Brees was a pretty bad QB until his 29th start which was the first game of the 2004 season (River's rookie year). It was literally as if a light turned on in his head...

I see Fitzpatrick as having that same kind of "light being turned on" moment in his 28th start which was the second to last game of 2009. Not as dramatic as Brees, but dramatic none the less...

I meant to write that bree's had his breakout year the year before rivers was drafted, which blows my argument out of the water. Thanks for taking the the time to check though.

Fingers crossed its a sign if things to come.

  2. Honestly, I dont know if Nix was part of the drafting of Rivers or not. I may be wrong, but if memory serves me, Bress had yet to have a good season when they drafted Rivers.

Personally, I would rather us go D at #3 and then take one of the other prospects like Mallet, Ponder, Locker, or Kaepernick in the 2nd as they all have the same amount of risk to me and high cielings too.

I thought bree's had a breakout year the year they drafted rivers. but i have done no fact checking and i'm not as sharp as i used to be.

I agree with you on your draft preference though. IMO we need a mean defender first.

  3. I see what you are saying, but how does that make sense? If you believe your 28 year old QB can win a championship for you on a team devoid of talent at so many places, why would you consider drafting a QB at #3? The goal is to win a championship, so if your guy is good enough to do so, why draft a QB at #3, give him a massively larger contract than the guy you already have, have no idea if he will pan out in the NFL, and fail to improve the other holes on your team.

To me, its much more likely they are just trying to keep Fitz and the teams spirits high with all the buzz about us liking so many QB's, Wilsons public declaration that we need a QB, and the FO/Coaches saying they want to find a "10 year" guy when there existing QB is only 28.

Not to mention, what you just said doesnt add up in terms of you saying because we pick #3 it puts in a "spot" to look hard at a QB at #3. Well what about the 2nd? We very well, and maybe more likely, take a QB at the top of the 2nd where we are not in a "spot" where we have to take a QB as its the 35th pick in the draft, not the 3rd.

    True. you got me there.

But i will lay it out there that i hasn't gone past nix to draft a quaterback when he's getting production out of a veteran. Bree's had a good year and the chargers still drafted Rivers. when it came to it Rivers won out. In the end that translated to getting a few draft pics for the first round pick they used on Rivers. in the long term, it turned out to be a good choice. (wait nix was with the chargers when that happened wasn't he?).

I'm not saying that the Bills won't draft a quaterback early, they are in year two of a rebuilding program we were told would take a few years so having two quaterbacks that could possibly get great value at a later date can turn out to be a good choice. With the draft being deep on defensive lineman, its very possible. I just don't think it means that they don't believe that fitz can get the job done.

  4. Gailey seems to be the kind of man that says what he thinks. Over evaluating everything he says to find a basis for your argument is pointless. No one on this board is in a position to speak for him, or anyone in the front office for that matter, or translate his feelings for others.

Their feelings about Fitzpatrick is written plain as day in todays sports xchange post on TBD's front page. To quote Chan directly "WE ALL BELIEVE IN HIM",the coaches, the players believe in him. even if alphadawg doesn't.

It seems having a high pick puts them in a spot on this issue. they will consider every position because they might not be in this position again, knowing that the Bills are not good enough to bypass any position. That goes without saying when you are picking 3rd in the draft.

Most on TBD seems to think that you can't win a championship with Fitz at the helm, yet To Quote Gailey again "I think we can win a championship with him.". You tend believe in a player you think can win a championship with. Have you known Gailey to shoot the s***?

So to answer the question the title asks. IMO yes.

  5. I am keeping a tally of all the posters who say that CJ Spiller is not a good running back.....

Not a I told you so guy.....but that is just so ridiculous. Maybe he got off to a slow start.....but anyone who thinks CJ Spiller is not going to be a player in this league man I dont even know what to tell you.

TOO MUCH TALENT not to turn it around......and if the Bills evaluators were wrong on CJ then so was EVERBODY else.....he was picked right where he should be.

I agree, IMO he'll improve with a better offensive line. then again i'm no expert.

Even a total dumbass with 4.3 speed could have tore it up behind the Clemson line. All he had to do was run through those HUGE holes and outrun everyone to the EZ.

    There it is.

  6. Living in australia we get alot of NFL football because the sport is getting increasingly popular here. however, we never get to see any college football. whats next years quaterback crop like after luck? any quaterbacks that would allow the bills to concentrate on other needs and ride fitz for another season or two? Chan and Buddy seems pretty high on him.

Sorry to be off topic i hit the back button first and thought i was still in the cam newton thread.

  7. Yeah, I don't get the over-the-top hatred for R.R. around here. While obviously no fan of the Jets, I respect the job that he has done. - Two straight AFC Championship appearances is quite an accomplishment.

    - The guy declares that he didn't "come here to kiss Belichick's ring" then proceeds to end a 9 year losing streak to the Pats.

Meanwhile, we're rebuilding for 11 years. How can any Bills fan laugh at this guy??? If a boisterous fat ass came here and instantly delivered us to two straight AFC Championship games, you guys would worship the ground he walked on!

but he didn't, so f*** him. :nana:
