  1. I wouldn't say vindicated. Less villianized maybe. He would need to have some success somewhere else before we talk about vindication.

That's right. One could argue that the offense would be no better if he had stayed. Does it really matter?

  2. Don't forget, he is also a former Bill. If he still has the desire to coach (not sure if he does) there aren't many teams that would likely give him that chance... he would need the Bills as much as the Bills need him... I like the idea of his sons too, they have been pretty good coaches along the way...isn't one the OC for the Jets right now? I can come to terms with a soft offense, like we have now, but a soft defense, in Buffalo just kills me... Marty would right that sinking ship....

I think Brian, the OC for the Jets is his son, and Kurt - the former defensive coach/assistant, is his brother... for whatever it's worth.

  3. The fact that no team has signed him, including the OT desperate Raiders and Packers probably means something - he's asking for too much money, or else the heart is there but the strength isn't.

That said, it seems like a perfect fit here in Buffalo, and the fact that we continue to stand pat with Kirk Chambers and Jonathan Scott is mind-boggling. As far as I know, we've only worked out a safety this week. Evidently, injuries to that position are crucial.

I'm sure Tom Donohoe would have signed him... and think how that would have worked out.

  4. Alex Van Pelt is not an offensive coordinator. He was coaching high school a few years ago, wasn't he?

Lots of HOF NFL coaches were once high school coaches. Not that AVP will be a great head coach some day, but you never know - just sayin'.

  5. Esmonde makes the point that a lack of quality management is what is keeping the Bills from being successful. Everyone's favorite sports radio guy, Colin Cowhered, talked about the article this morning.

Could not agree more on this assessment.

    Esmonde

I wish I heard the "The Herd" this morning, b/c he is my favourite radio guy. But this whole "mgm't" idea is not new.

  6. What could make anyone think Lee Evans is an awesome player?

    Larry Fitzgerald is awesome.

Lee Evans is average with an awesome paycheck.

When exactly have you seen awesome from Lee Evans?

This is the problem. How many people pay to see Lee Evans do nothing every week?

What's Larry done this year? Word is Warner isn't getting the ball to him enough... sound familiar?

  7. I heard that also. The only thing I can think of is Kelly played for a team Donald Trump owned in the USFL and they remained friends so it's possible that he's in the "group" Kelly speaks of.

I think you are right on that one. They are definitely friends and have made several appearances at each other's events over the years.

  8. Edwards played GREAT tonight because:

    1. The NE defense played pathetic. Couldn't tackle worth squat.

    2. Brady played horrible. First game in over a year. Missed a LOT of open receivers. A LOT of bad passes in the first half.

    3. AVP called a great game and a lot of downfield throws. Gruden/Jaws pointed out that both Evans and TO were doubled, so Trent had to throw it to the TEs and backs, and that was often in the middle of the field, down the field.

Give Trent some credit where credit's due. I think the OL and play-calling are the two main positives from this game, and those directly impact Edwards.

  9. He is coach of the week if McKelvin wasn't brain dead. Peopel gotta get over blaming Jauron for everything. He had a great game plan that one man screwed up.

Well if Jauron is fired, it won't be Bobby April getting promoted, it will be AVP

  10. How can Ralph be getting any enjoyment out of this? To be paying upwards of $150m in player, coaches, and front office salary for this turd of an outfit would make me want to vomit if I was the owner. Owens is the only thing bringing people through the gates. You could basically trade every employee in the organization except Owens and the marketing team for their lowest paid counter-part and produce the same bottom line.

He's leaving his Estate (pre-tax) nearly $1 BILLION from this team alone! How could someone not be proud of that???? I'd "Enjoy" my team knowing I kicked in $25,000 and they are now a BILLION dollars! Wow!!

Who knows how much other $$$ he has socked away? But I'm sure his Estate (kids, wife, etc) will not have to worry about Estate Taxes. That's likely already been accounted for.

(But as a Bills fan, of COURSE I don't "enjoy" what I've been seeing the past 10 years. That's a completely different issue.)

  11. I'm sure this post will drop to the bottom of the list within nanoseconds, but I'm going to post it anyway.

    For all of you Monday-morning-GMs-in-waiting-who-could-run-this-team-better-if-you-only-had-the-chance:

Trust me when I tell you that there are 31 other team owners out there tonight who are grudgingly tipping their hats to Ralph Wilson. Ralph Wilson has the built-in excuse for EVERY move he makes. He is operating a team in a small market in very hard economic times.

Cut your overpriced Left Guard? See ya. It's Buffalo. If hard decisions aren't made I'll get creamed.

Cut your overpriced Left Tackle? See ya. It's Buffalo. If hard decisions aren't made, I'll get creamed.

Cut your big-name backup running back? See ya. It's Buffalo. If hard decisions aren't made, I'll get creamed.

Ralph doesn't need an excuse, and I believe he knows it. It's Buffalo. It's Western New York. He HAS to make ruthless moves like this to compete with Jerry Jones. With Dot-com Snyder. With Bob Kraft. These guys are MADE of money, so everyone is expecting them to SPEND it, and ALL the time. They ALL - trust me - ALL - wish they had the alibi that they were making these moves because it's a small market. Do you really think any of these guys don't want $XX million suddenly dropping into THEIR pockets? Are you goddamn serious?

Ralph Wilson is (choose the metaphor):

    Punching above his weight

    Playing the hand he's dealt

    Making lemons out of lemonade

    Playing within the rules

I don't fault the guy one bit that he's cut an overpriced underproducing left tackle. When the hell did you people think that this wasn't a business? I credit the guy for showing the stones to make a lot of really hard business decisions in a short time frame. I'm glad I'm not on the receiving end. This is the same guy who opposed the CBA, on which a large number of owners are beginning to come around.

This guy's ruthless, and I'm guessing a lot of owners are mildly envious.

Excellent points! As a Bills fan, I would love to see an owner who has one goal, only... to win the Super Bowl, of course.

But, as a business person, if I could take $25,000, and 50 years later, turn it into over $900,000,000 !??!?!?! (NOT to mention, all the fun along the way...) Well, you're right. He's proven to be an excellent biz owner. How could anyone argue that? He gets the county/region to kick in their part, he likely has near zero debt (relatively speaking), and he has sold-out crowds. His coaching staff and Front office are likely near the bottom of the league in payroll... etc.

Yes, I'm sure there are a lot of owners who envy him!

    FORBES' Bills Valuatioin

  12. Right alongside Hank Bullough's yachting prowess of wind and sails...

..."I wasn't thinking about firing him three days ago. I wasn't thinking about it two weeks ago. But when you start thinking about it, I think you need to move on it and do something. When I started thinking about it I gave it a good deal of thought and did it." ~ Richard H. Alfred E. Neumann Jauron - Sept. 4th, 2009

    Easy for him to say!

  13. I would have thought that over a decade plus, the logic of "I think this guy will be good because he's not our current guy" has been overwhelmingly proven to be crap. Guess again.

If you can point to where Thigpen is actually good, not that he's not Trent or not Fitz, then the team should take a look.

Otherwise, believing that a guy who can't make the roster in one of the worst teams in the league will be the Bills' savior is idiotic.

I don't think anyone implied that Thigpen is a savior. (No one on this thread is that "idiotic.")

Like I said earlier, he might be a good prospect down the road. That's all.

  14. Whatever problems we have with Trent Edwards right now are not going to be cured by Tyler Thigpen or either of the ghosts of David Humm or Joe Dufek.

Obviously. However, I think he'd be valuable as the season wore on, or possibly, a realistic prospect for the 2010 season.
