If you throw out the goal line runs for Allen, his play this year definitely a peg below his prior years. His entire MVP candidacy has essentially been his ability to score inside the 5 yard line. Tons of bad games on the year. Which has been true across the league with QBs. Defenses definitely punched back this year in a major way.

If we took away the 10 underhand pitches Mahomes tossed to a RB from

inside the 5yd line that led to TD’s every season he wouldn’t have as many passing TD’s. Heck, we should also take away the 100 screen passes Mahomes and Chiefs run every season.

We need to draft a #1. Maybe we could get another year from Diggs as a #2.

As long as Diggs is on this team he’ll be #1. Next year will likely be Diggs’ final year here. I see him getting traded before getting cut.

We definitely need a first round talent at WR next draft. And then possibly take another shot at a WR in the 4th or 5th

I can’t believe I’m saying this but they need to draft another DT and DE 🤢

(only after WR1 is taken, please!)

Yeh I mean I can get behind that. The awesome thing is that the Douglas trade got us a corner. Benford, Douglas and Johnson. Tre White will likely be cut.

Our LB’s are set with Milano and Bernard. We will need a safety and another DL.

Draft will have to prioritize WR first and then go get our DL/S. I’m super confident Beane and McD can find a S in the later rounds. They have a history of drafting and/or identifying studs in the secondary

Leonard Floyd is here on a team friendly one year contract and we would all love to see him extended.

Epenesa has seemingly turned a corner and his rookie contract is up this year.  Can the Bills afford to resign him?

Rousseau has one more season under contract and will be a free agent in 2025.  He looks like the real deal and it would be great to lock him up long term as a staple of the D-line going forward.

DaQuan Jones is a free agent at the end of this season, just like Floyd and Epenesa are, and I suspect DaQuan will be a hot commodity on the free agent market.  Can we afford to bring him back?

The dark cloud hovering over all of these personnel decisions for Beane is the massive contract he gave Von to come to Buffalo.  I linked to Von's contract below.  That contract runs through the 2027 season and there are no cheap outs.   Beane has also locked up Ed Oliver long term.  His contract is below too.  The combined cap hit for just Von and Ed next season is a whopping $44.5 mm.

How much more can Beane invest on the D-Line?  Who should he let walk?   I won't even bring up other pending free agents like Rasul Douglas who has to be a priority to resign.

Beane is going to have some tough choices to make and the salary cap isn't going to go up enough next year to save him.

Yikes. Von is not going anywhere next year with that massive dead cap hit. Let’s just pray he returns at about 80% of what he was.

    2025 he’ll be gone.

This is a good example of identifying a guy whose skills will work in McDermott defense and then going to get him even when the market was not there.

It’s also a good example of how most fans don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to personnel decisions.

Has anyone changed their opinion of him over the last month?

This will be an emotional weekend. I’m prepared for a lot of McDermott threads Sunday night if things go poorly. I want to see how we’re feeling entering the biggest regular season game of his head coaching career.

Im at where I’ve always been at:  he stays as long as the team is playing hard and winning. We are still doing both of those things. When we have back to back 8-9 seasons then we can start talking about replacing him.

I believe since 2019 or 2020 only Andy Reid has more wins than McD.

Short of a Superbowl, I think they need a change. There's something wrong with the way this team conducts itself. They are flat and unprepared and seem to have volatile emotional swings throughout the season and within individual games. I mean, that happens, but it's too much. The lack of consistency is their biggest problem.

As in my previous post, since 2019 or 2020 (I can’t remember now) only Andy Reid has more wins than McD. That’s pretty consistent.

I just checked - the Bills have the 2nd most regular seasons wins since 2019. The Chiefs are #1.

Yeh, let’s fire McD. Fire Beane too!

Losing Floyd and AJE would be significant and who knows what Miller will be in 2024. With as deep as the WRs are in the draft you may take an edge rusher in Round 1 and still get a quality WR in Round 2.

I disagree. Look at our defense and how many late round picks have turned out to be studs:  Bernard, Milano, Benford, Johnson  And then other players like AJE who aren’t studs but solid players. McD is constantly bringing it on defense. Offense is another story.

We need an infusion of talent at WR for Allen. Diggs is on the wrong side of 30 and Davis may not be back. We need a 1st round talent at WR and then another WR in the draft.

Look no further than Mahomes to see what happens when you ignore the WR position. They are a disaster.

It probably won't happen for a couple seasons because he's a no name compared to Fred Warner and Roquan Smith but I think he's been the MVP of a defense that also has Ed Oliver on it playing like an all pro.

    134 tackles, 82 solo, 6.5 sacks, 10 TFL, 3 INT, 3 Fumble recoveries

Add in the fact that MLB was widely thought to be the team's biggest weakness heading into the season.  Shows what we know.

I gotta say McD has been worlds better calling defense than Frazier. This defense is so much more aggressive.

Defense is not a priority in next year’s draft. We should go with WR round 1 for sure.

No. Going for it from the 2 yard line vs. The 7 is a massive difference. According to next gen stats it's a difference of over 16% win probability.  Campbell deciding to go for it on the 7 equated to a -13.5% probability of winning. I can't think of any coaching decision that ever resulted in more of a negative swing in winning %.

we don’t need nextgen stats to tell us that going for it from the 7yd line was the wrong choice

  10. I agree with the injury theory. Diggs taking himself out so frequently, for multiple plays in a series, for the last 5-6 weeks leads me to believe it’s an injury and not something like Diggs is “losing a step”

Diggs would never come out of this offense in the past. Ever.
