  1. I really did not like his answer about staying in college another year for "the experience of being in college". It reminds me a lot of what Matt Leinart said when he went back to USC. If he had said, I wanted to stay in college because I still have a lot to work on, my accuracy, etc, that would be a differrent story. I think it shows a lack of maturity that he is not ready to emotionally move on from college, even though he seems to think he is physically ready to begin his professional career. (IE, I may have been the first player selected). Seem like he still has some growing up to do and that is not what you want out of a leader. Based on his accuracy, his record, and my perception of his emotional frame of mind, I would take a much longer look at Mallet and other QB prospects.
  2. That's the first thing I thought too. the last thing we need is another corner.
  3. Yes, he can pass the team onto his wife without any tax liability. However, there are two problems with that. 1) When his wife dies, there would be a heavy tax liability to whomever she left the asset to, including family members (assuming both survive until 2011). 2) When it becomes the wife's asset, she can do with it what she pleases. So Ralph's wishes essentially go out the window. If she wanted to leave the team to her lovely cat, she could do so legally, but I am sure the NFL would have an issue with that!
  4. Weo, I think you are confusing corporate ownership with a public corporation. Public corporations (IE, ones that trade their stock on the open market, like McDonalds or Ford,) are not allowed in the NFL. Private corporations are very much allowed. Private corporations are private business strucutres that do not sell shares to the public by way of stock offerings over the market. Much like a family owned restuarant that is structured in a private LLC. Hope this clarifies.
  5. You can look at the Yankees as far as Steinbrennar passing away. The heirs were his two children. They did not owe ANY ESTATE TAXES on this transaction becasue George passed away in 2010. This saved the family around 500 million dollars Once again, Ralph does not need to pass the team to an heir, he can pass it to whomever and the tax liability would be calculated the same as it would for a family member, assuming there is a tax liability. (sans Ralph's wife.) As far as corporate ownership, an individual can pass an asset "which the team is an asset" into a dynasty trust, or a family trust, or any other legal entity they want to. There is no limitation. The idea that an individual must own the team is absurd. I can guarantee you every owner in the league has established their ownership control into corporate structures and or trusts for tax and liability reasons. Now, maybe there is an NFL rule that states an individual must own 30% of the team, if that is the case it is news to me. But, even if this were true, it would not change any of the legal rights Ralph has to pass along his assets as he wishes. It could have been done a number of ways. Probably through a family trust and solid estate planning that kept enough liquid assets in the estate to cover the estate tax liability for the business.
  6. In 2008 I was playing baseball and dislocated my right knee which also tore my ACL, my MCL, my ICL, both sides of my meniscus, and had deep bone bruises on both of the major bones in my leg. Basically my knee was being held together with skin and the PCL. I can tell you it is not a fun injury, but even with that, I was back to athletic activities in 6 months and was fully recovered at 9. And being a former athlete I am certainly not a quick healer. So for someone like Welker, it is not hard to imagine him getting back in time with the right training and people around him.
  7. No, the team is Ralph's asset. That means HE CAN LEAVE THE TEAM TO WHOMEVER HE WANTS. Just like if you had a car and died, you could leave it to whoever you wanted. The inheritance tax issue would have to be settled. This could be done through proper estate planning, setting up a dynasty trust, etc. Also, if Ralph were to pass this year, there would be no estate tax liabiiity. Believe me, there are a lot of ways to handle this if he wants to transfer ownership responsibly. No, the team could be passed through a trust to another company or an investment firm lead by a current employee or a family member, or a dog, or to whomever Ralph wants. The key issue when setting something like this up, is to ensure the estate has enough liquidity to pay the estate tax liability without liquidating the family buisness. Haven't we all been wondering what exactly Jim Kelly's actual job is with this team? Perhaps he is being groomed as the owner as well as being the face of the franchise. Also, I know a lot of you out there think thie Bills are a billion dollar company. In actuality they're probably a lot closer to $500 or $600 million or so.
  8. It depends if there is such an agreement in place, but yes, the other owners would have to approve the new group.
  9. I was a starting tight end, but only played through high school. Baseball was my passion and that is what I played in college. I have to say that before every football game, we were so pumped up and could not wait to get out there, that getting "into" the game was never a probelm. It was 100% go from the opening kick-off. However, there were times when I know some guys on our team just packed it in and stopped playing. Ususally, if we were getting beat late (usually the linemen), but never at the begining if I remember correctly. Even today, I still hear some songs that we would play during our games and the hair on the back of my neck stands up and I am ready to go. I have not played an organized game since 1997, but you are right, that is very true.
  10. That's not true, they could have a buy/sell agreement in place through a trust that would allow Bills ownership to pass to key Bills employees or an investment group. The value of the franchise would be settled by a business appraisal and the investment group would have the first right of refusal to purchase the team for the price agreed upon by the estates heirs. I am sure Mr. Wilson has done the responsible thing and taken care of his estate planning needs.
  11. I love how these rumor pages always seem to have an undertone of criticism for the Bills because they have the audacity to not just give away their good players for the greater good of whatever team the article is stumping for. Unbelievable.
  12. It just seems this has been the same circular reasoning that has plagued the Bills offense for a decade. Hopefully, Gailey will find a way to get the ball downfield.
  13. Per ESPN Link http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5572144
  14. Anybody know what happened to Chad Jackson? I though cutting him was strange. Looked good all pre-season.
  15. I think the answer is we just need to commit to taking more shots down field 15 to 50 yards in the air. At least 10 times a game to spread the defense out.
  16. Wow, great investigative journalism! You should work for a news station. Seriously, I think you did more work on this than I have seen from most reporters on their stories in like 10 years. See my thread about The Buffalo Catch-22. The answer is to seriously throw deep or long range passes (15 to 50 yard passes in the air) -at least 10 a game. And when I say 10 a game, I mean 10 that are actually thrown, not just called and the QB ends up on his back or checks down. We have to spread the defense in order to win...simple as that.
  17. So I have been thinking about this since the game sunday. The offense is in a catch-22 position. We need to have the offense focus on our great running backs. But, we can't have full use our stable of backs because the opposing defense stacks the line of scrimmage with 8 guys. So in order to allow our backs space, we need to spread the defense by having our QB complete mid and long range passes. But Gailey's offense is built around short range passes to running backs and recievers in order to create space. This is done because the line has trouble giving the QB time, and the QB has trouble looking down field. However, the recievers & backs can't create in space because there are 8 guys on the line of scrimmage and the field shrinks. The Buffalo Catch-22.
  18. Why are there no threads to trade Jackson? I love the guy but he's on the wrong side of 30 and Lynch is only 24 or 25. Also, Spiller and Lynch would compliment each other better than Freddie and Spiller. I have a better idea, let's keep all three of them...Which is what we are going to do.
  19. I didn't notice McGee getting benched. Actually, the way I am remembering it, most of the catches Marshall got were in front of Florence, not McGee. I thought they went to McKelvin because he is a bit more physical that Florence is. At any rate, I though McKelvin looked terrific. I can't wait until he and Byrd really get in sync with each-other. It's gonna be like having Ed Reed and Dion Sanders in the secondary.....Scary man.
  20. "Mr. 3 and out" JK- How about "The Brohminator."
  21. I have never been a Kelsay basher, but he was the worst defensive player on the field last sunday. Just callin it like I see it. I really hope he gets better, but he looked aweful last week IMO. Hopefuly, he will be able to make the adjustment. You know another play that catches a lot of sh*t here, looked really good last week. Keith Ellison. He was pretty good in coverage and made some tough tackles.
  22. I truly feel bad for the individual, but it couldn't happen to a more arrogant team.
  23. I think we need to force gb into at least 2 turnovers and the offense needs to play ball control and dominate the time of posession battle. With Grant out and with our secondary, I like our chances if we do these two things.
  24. The Bills need the passing game to open up the run. Think about it. Other teams know we have three very good backs, and an unproven QB. So, they key on the running game and force the QB to beat them. I think Gailey figured we will start by establishing the passing game to set upm the running game. the problem was they converted 3 first downs all day and could never get either established. Bottom line, just a bad performance by everyone on offense. If Edwards can keep the defense honest (IE complete some mid range and long range passes and keep 8 or 9 guys of the line of scrimmage) than we will be successful. If not, it is going to be a long season.
  25. I tuned in just in time to hear the announcers discussing it. Yes, apparently, the Giants have a Scott Norwood jersey on their wall of fame. Bunch of classless, ballless, toothless, a**holes.
