It's a subjective argument, therefore it elicits a differing opinions. When you look at guys like Adrian Wilson, they're impact players without having all the supporting elements.
I will admit players like Polamalu and Bob Sanders are better, both in reality and statistically, because they've got the supporting cast. But when you draft a player eighth overall, you're looking for someone who doesn't need everything around them to be successful. A fine player makes players around them better. And that's more difficult to do from the secondary than it is from the defensive line.
Whitner is not spectacular. He's not a liability either, but falls somewhere in the middle of the pack. And when you're the eighth overall pick, being pushed over to FS after your third season doesn't qualify as being a standout.
Totally agree. Those career stats, except for tackles, look like Ed Reeds or Polamalus would be in about 4 games. A safety in the 8th spot should be a stud, not adequate. Ed Reed and Polamalu make players around them better. I dont think you can say that about Whitner.

If the front office is set on keeping our current group of DE's and a TE or center isnt rated high enough to draft in the 11 spot, I find Taylor Mays the 6-3 230lb safety from USC whos supposed to run a sub 4.4 40 a very tempting choice. They say you have to be strong in the middle and this guy certainly brings the wood every time he hits. As a Bills fan down here in Steeler country I certainly know what Polamalu brings. Thoughts?

Mid 40s living in PA and Im seriously pessimistic but with their could be a silver lining in the doom to come next season. If we couldnt put together a winning season with the second easiest schedule this year what do you expect next season with a much tougher road to hoe. The silver lining may be that we tank next year, ensuring DJ is fired, and get a top 5 pick in the draft. These 7-9 seasons just keep teasing the fans that there is hope, yet were not terrible enough to get the blue chip QB. We werent bad enough in the year JP was drafted to get Eli, Rivers or Big Ben, so we traded up and got the worthless Losman. Personally, Im hoping for 2-14 next year, DJ gets fired and the top under classmen QBS dont come out this year and we have a crack at them in the 2010 draft. Sorry Im not sold on Edwards, his production or durability to be a top QB in this league. Bills have too many holes to fill in the off season in the draft and free agency. Think about our needs for solid starters---OC-TE-DE-OLB. Then think about other positions where were weak--a solid starter at DT opposite Stroud, another QB, a solid second WR, Safety will be thin if Wilson goes and Simpson just got arrested. I dont think were solid at G and Langston Walker is a sloth at RT. Im also hoping after next season Modrak is fired and we get a GM who's actually willing to live in the city he works in. There are two people holding this franchise back....tightwad Wilson and Modrak whos drafts and personal decisions have been horrendous. We werent willing to show Pat Williams the money but were willing to show Kelsay and Shobel the money. We werent willing to show Winfield the money but we were willing to show Dockery and Walker the money. We werent willing to show Clements the money but were willing to pay Roscoe 4 million and Spencer Johnson 3 million. So we over pay for marginal talent, and then let bonifide blue chippers go so we can use draft picks maintaining the status quo, instead of improving.

Not every one. Just the liberal media and those that take thier word for fact. Taking prisoners to other countries is called rendition. Its been done since WW11 and maybe longer. What the liberal media doesn't say is what information was extracted from the prisoners. Of course any informatiom received from the prisoners of thier operations would not be released , to the public. Also note that several of the terrorists that were released where found on the battelfeild fighting our troops again and that is totally unacceptable. The only way to stop a war is to win it.
Hmm.....funny we prosecuted japanese officers in WW2 for water boarding, which we considered torture.

Thank god we didnt get Ngata and Marcus McNeil, man those are some pitiful stats on Whitner for 3 years and well what can you say about McCargo.

I love thinking that we traded UP to get Losman and McCargo. Theres some brilliant front office work there.

Your right.... doesnt make it any better. Rodgers and Sanders for JP is just as bad. I think the average Bills fan with a few scouting mags could do as well as the Bills. 2003 we could of had Jason Witten in the 2nd round, a need for the Bills. Dallas got em in the third. Another DE we passed on over for Kelsay was Dwyane White. I hope the Bills learn not to trade up, Id rather have more picks not less.

The JP Losman pick sets us back for years. The 2nd round pick we traded could of been Bob Sanders S Colts and the 2005 first round pick we traded for JP, Dallas turned into Demarcus Ware. Think of that trade now and you cry.

I think there is the perfect mix of veteran leadership and youth. If the Bills bring in a vet receiver who do you suggest they cut?

Why any bills fan refers to Reed as savy is beyond me. Im a Bills fan down here in steeler country and reed wouldnt even make the steelers roster. His stats the last few years scream journey man yet we pay him a few million to post 4-500 hundred yards receiving. Why i dont know. Start Hardy, get him the experience, Parrish in the slot. Its not rocket science. How many fades have we thrown to Hardy in the redzone? Isnt that what we draft this guy for.
Bills should draft another QB in say the 3rd round, see if you can find another Edwards, JP sucks and his contract is over. Draft a QB dont bring in a journeyman. Im not sold on Edwards, so if we draft another Qb in the middle rounds we have a backup and maybe QB for the future.
It sucks we stuck with Shobels, Kelsays, Denneys, and Langston Walkers contracst. We over paying for Shobel who is past his prime and never was a factor in run defense. And to think we wouldnt pay Pat Williams 12 million but we will over pay for Kelsay.
I agree with drafting a center, Polian made the line a priority. Get rid of these rejects like Preston, Walker. An NFL quality guard would be nice too.
For godsake draft a NFL quality TE or sign one in the off season, to think we passed on Jason Whitten a few years ago make one cry. Kind of like when you look at what Dallas got for the picks we sent for JP. The mismanagement in the draft over the years is the reason were in the hole we are. Whitner over Ngata, JP Losman, Josh Reed in the second, Kelsay in the 2nd.
Quit the recycled coaches, again look at the steelers, Cowher wasnt a head coach before, neither was Tomlinson. Just great Defensive coordinators--hmmm dude from the Giants is looking better and better.
