This fan base is hangry after a win.  Tells me things are trending in the right direction.   😎

Not just any win; a win over the team that lorded over us for 20 years, a win that put the team at 6-2 and 4-0 in the division, and gave them pole position for a home playoff game for the first time in 25 years.

yea we will agree to disagree about your first statement.

As far as the second, you have valid concerns about the amount of TD passes the last 4 weeks. I would say there are a lot of factors that have went into that (weather, game plan, three TD passes being dropped, defenses adjusting for sure) aside from just "Allens regression". I dont think it was the coaching staff not having a clue how to change their gameplan though. But we will certainly find out over the next few games.

4 TD passes the last 4 weeks...and of course that’s to say nothing of Davis’ drop, Kroft getting turf monstered, or Diggs lining up wrong and nixing another Davis TD.

    Regression my left kidney.

It sounds like cap space is a huge sticking point though........which is I believe what the OP meant.

Not going to get much done for 5th-7th round picks if you want the other team to eat $3.5M of some expiring contract as well.

Beane has been clumsy and careless with cap space.........$3M too much here,  $5M too much there..........and that certainly limited what he could do now because the big motivation to trade most of these players is to save money and create cap space.

While you’re correct about the cap situation, I’m fairly confident that they could get the numbers to work if they could acquire the player(s) they’re after.

I would be very surprised if that happens at this point.

I've seen similar data online and it's truly baffling how Allen has had such a major regression after the first four weeks.

I still think it's a combination of poor coaching and gameplaning being exposed (Daboll/McD) and teams figuring out that Allen can't read defenses and is only looking one players (diggs) way on most snaps.

Also on what few deep throws we've seen the last 4 weeks they have been wildly off target shades of Allen's deep ball issues the last four weeks. This is why I maintain this team has serious issues beyond coaching and all the holes on defense. QB is quietly becoming a major offseason need which means this team will be right back to ground zero again if that's the case.

A major regression? You have to watch more than the stat sheet. It’s quite easily explained: teams are taking away the big play, and Allen’s supporting cast hasn’t been good enough to turn the short passing game and run game into points.

How is that baffling in any way?

They are MCDERMOTT TEAMS! He wasn’t the hot dog vendor. And, he’s just as bad, post the 0-7 year. Is McD morphing into a Marv Lewis? Can get his teams into the Playoffs, but can’t do anything else?

And the question is, are they a better team now? At QB- yes, but obviously the NKOTB- Burrow, Herbert, Murray appear as stars and Lock, Minshew, etc. are very close. And the Sunday Beer League... can’t tackle, can’t cover, can’t press, can’t get off the field D, is a Train Wreck!  They have a genuine Star at WR1, WR3 is decent, but WR2 has been MIA and the entire collection of Stone Hands TEs are not markedly improved.

They are up against 4 SB contender and/or Playoff likely teams in the next 4. Win TWO and I’ll be convinced, there’s been a change,

Lock and Minshew are “very close”?????

    This can’t be serious.

It was not a statement game.

Show me where the statistic “statement game” is tracked and then we can debate it. Until then it’s some nebulous metric that you’ve set with no real concrete parameters attached, which allows you to (as Hapless said) move the goalposts to suit your position as you see fit.

Also...... is gettting the ball back down 3 with 3 minutes left back in week 3 vs a top 5 defense, and winning the game as time expires not a statement?

The 8-8 Cowboys is Allen's statement game? 231 yards and 2 TDs is a statement game? I rest my case. For me it was good to see him play well vs Cowboy, Steelers, and other teams but we're waiting for that game that says Allen has arrived as a top QB.

Allen has yet to have a statement game. He's failed in every attempt.

Ah yes. We have to marginalize the fact that the dude threw a grand total of 5 incomplete passes and looked like a bona fide franchise QB against a top 10 defense in a nationally televised game because yardage and stuff.

  8. Not that it’s a huge deal, and it certainly shouldn’t affect his decision, but if he has to retire due to injury, that would presumably activate another $1.3M in guaranteed salary for 2021 (that amount is guaranteed for injury only), which means that his dead money hit would increase from $5.5M to $6.8M. The team would still save ~$3.5M off the current hit.

The OL situation will be very interesting moving into 2021. Of the current starters, only Dawkins, Ford, and Morse are under contract. Winters is the only backup returning. I believe Bates is a RFA. Nsekhe, Mongo, and Williams are UFAs. Not good considering that the cap is going to drop.

That's why the second half of this season is SO very important.  IMO, how we fare in these last 8 games will ultimately reveal the Bills for exactly what they are.  And what they are remains to be seen, because so far this year, we have beaten the teams we were SUPPOSED to beat.  Now its time to take it to the next level and start getting those "signature wins".  Beating the teams heavily favored against us.  And until we do, can we call ourselves anything more than a decent football team?

All any of this does is change perceptions; it actually has no bearing on the outcome of the season.

“Signature win” is a made-up term with no real definition.

It looks to me like no matter what way you slice it, these Bills HAVE had wins over good teams.

What is lacking in most of these discussions is a comparison to other teams when they go up against top 10 teams or playoff teams or what have you. Here’s the catch: top 10 teams don’t lose very often by definition.

    Thank you.

Wins are wins. Period. Ask the 6-2 Buccaneers, who narrowly escaped with a 2-point victory over the 1-win Giants last night.

Have you looked into a NUCCA chiropractor? Many times the longer-term effects can be related to upper cervical impingement...speaking from experience.

So do we finally see Tre follow someone this year?   Tre on Lockett and we double metcalf?

I don’t think so... I think you’ll see Tre stick to one side and the coverage roll (the sky/cloud defender—kind of like the 2 in a cover 6) go to the other side of the field.

That really lets the safeties key a bit easier since they don’t have to swap assignments based on pre-snap motion/adjustments.

I’m trying hard to be low key/‘whatever’ regarding a deadline trade. Do I think we need to? Absolutely. We’re the current beneficiaries of an upside nfl world and have garnered a nearly unbelievable lead in our Division at the halfway mark! Yet we desperately need defensive help now to help this magic season in the making deliver in the end. I think Brandon et al are doing their level best, but...

I just don’t see it playing out well for us.

Diggs looked to be taking responsibility for the INT.  He ran up to Allen pointing to his own chest like "its on me".  I'm no lip reader, could be wrong.

Looked like Allen asked Diggs if he (Allen) mis-read the DB’s leverage, and Diggs replied with “no that was my bad”

  15. 2 minutes ago, whatdrought said:

Yep. It's actually a good throw if they're on the same page. My question would be what triggered the miscommunication? My guess is it's a route option dictated by the coverage. Allen saw the coverage do one thing and assumed Diggs would go inside, Diggs didn't see it and went out. No idea though as I'm not an X's and O's guy - it just felt that way. Also could have been just straight up the wrong route.

I believe it’s an option route where both Diggs and Allen are reading the DBs leverage. Simple miscommunication —best thing about it was that both players went straight to one another and got on the same page with absolutely no animosity whatsoever.

Bandit I get that a win is a win is a win. Keep stacking them. I am not only a die hard Bills fan I am also a fan of football and I see a defense that couldn't stop a pop warner offense. That's the concern. I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment .

    No doubt my friend.

I view it a bit differently. Pile up wins while you continue to work on ways to optimize your defense. I don’t think anyone is fooling themselves into believing that the D will become dominant, but it’s entirely plausible that they’ll figure out ways to limit what each opponent does best just enough to give themselves a fighting chance each week.

So I tend to approach it with the attitude that you keep putting check marks in the W by any means, and do your best to improve the lagging areas.
