  1. .500 in hockey is not .500 as we have come to know it any other sport.  Some games are worth more points, and more wins are awarded than losses (if you don't count the otl as losses) so the actual mean point amount in the league is higher.

Right now only 7 of the 32 teams are .500 or below.  .500 is not any sort of accomplishment by a franchise in year 13 of a rebuild.  It is like being 7-10 in the nfl or losing 90 games.

  2. I thought it was terrible.  Unpopular opinion, but I thought the show was sloppy and unfulfilling for the final 4 seasons, while the first 2 seasons were fantastic and worthy of the acclaim the show receives.    I only hung on through the finals seasons wondering what was going to happen at the conclusion.  Then to see a blank screen made me feel like I got hit with a pie in the face.  I hear all the breakdowns with how the perceptions changed in a certain order, and what Tony said earlier in the season and all... but that doesn't make me feel much better.

  3. He really wasn't my thing on the radio.  Seemed like he was full of hot air and hot takes.  Always negative for the sake of it, even when things were going OK.  Had an army of people who felt the same.  Didn't seem to really back his opinions up with anything substantiative, especially with hockey where he was clearly far out of his depth.

But regardless, he was a personality forever engrained in our sports and sports media history here, and I commend him for that.  RIP

  4. I watched it last week actually for the first time.  My 10 year old kid did too which was awesome.

I thought it was pretty great.  It framed the entire thing in a very positive light.  It was pretty thorough for the length of the episode.

It's crazy to look back on.  I was 12 for wide right.  It was a great ride

  5. I thought the Super Bowl OT was equitable.  SF got the choice and wanted the ball (wouldnt have been my decision).  They drove down and took a FG.  KC got their chance and did better and got a walk-off touchdown.

As far as wondering if a 3rd possession is fair.  I think that is far enough down the trough that we can say tough luck.  If you win the toss, you can choose the ball 1st (which IMO is a disadvantaged position) and get that 3rd possession.

The team with possession 2 has the gift of knowing the result of possession 1.  They can be in 4-down territory if need be.  They can decide not to settle for a game-tying field goal and go for it.  They can go for 2 instead of the PA to claim the win.

If the 3rd possession is in a scoreless game, I think we have had enough plays and movement in field position to let things fall as they may.  Team 2 did get a chance.

  6. Im not sure Im a gamer.  I go through fits and starts.

    My kid has a PS5.

I bought an XBox to play Starfield.  That was OK, but didnt keep my attention for too long.  Went on to Baldur's Gate, then started playing XCom on it again.

Im a big fan of retro gaming.  I have all my old systems and games.  I also bought all the mini consoles released...

But what I really like is creating the Raspberry Pi/Retropie system.  My recent build has everything pretty much ever made from Atari through PS1.

  7. I got into collecting baseball cards a bit during Covid, but stopped.  Too much clutter, and the industry in general is very cumbersome.  There are great products out there, but also, just too many variations, and so many base-cards to get to any sort of keepers.

I morphed that into vintage baseball cards.  Love that.  Cards from the '50s and '60s.  Would love some older stuff, but that's high-roller territory.

I also have a bunch of autographed stuff.  Mini football helmets and pucks mostly.  Best helmets I have are a nice Herbert, a Barry sanders, and a chrome Drew Brees.  I have a full sized Ricky Williams ravens helmet autographed and inscribed with 'smoke weed every day!".   Also have a full sized autographed Ozzie Smith Cardinals and Freddie Freeman braves helmets.

In my garage I have a bunch of old pennants from when I was a kid in the 80s and early 90s.

  8. I hate to say it because it is a loser way to go, but I will chalk it up to bad luck... at least the past 2 seasons.  Last year, they had a lot of adversity with the schedule and a traumatic on-field event.  Injuries too.

This season was especially bad with injuries.  It is understated, but they also had a scheduling disadvantage vs the Chiefs.  They had a short week, Chiefs a long one.  Plus the Chiefs got to rest starters an extra week.

The 13 seconds game was a coaching/program error.  I do think McDermott is a good NFL coach and has his teams motivated and ready to play.  It was proven this season.  Things could have gone south quick at 6-6 and instead the team came to play, and especially when McDermott came under attack.

Overall, I think the Bills can/should beat the Chiefs.  They have done it repeatedly in the regular season.  The last 2 times in the playoffs should have won, and I would err more to the side of coaching than I would the Chiefs being too good in both of those instances.  The Bengals seem to be a worse match up than KC.

So its generally a combination IMO

    Lots of luck

bad coaching/execution at a few critical times

The Chiefs/Bengals are good (but the Bills should beat them if healthy and we dont have to postpone games and people dont die on the field)

  9. I hate them, just by way of they are our main rival in terms of winning the AFC and Superbowl.  It's tough.  I also think Mahomes is a bit overinflated by the media.

It is nowhere near the Patriots though.  They were there for so long.  They were insufferable and boring.  I never liked Brady and always thought Manning was better.  You had the cheating scandals too.  Plus they were in the Division.  To think I was kind of pulling for them in Brady's 1st Superbowl.

The Chiefs, as a franchise is always one I considered a cousin to the Bills.  Old AFL rivals, great fan bases, a lot of lean seasons, 2-sport midsized cities.  Their fans enjoying a dynasty is almost like us being blessed with one.  I cant hate their fans as I think they deserve it as much as we do.

Andy Reid is a coach who I am happy for.

The Chiefs havent really dominated the Bills either.  Just the 3 playoff losses.  1 Was given away, and this year's was right there for the taking if only the team converted on bleeding the last 2 minutes and moving the ball 28 yards.

Also, the Chiefs going through a gauntlet made it feel like they earned it a bit more.  Had to play a WC game, then won in Buffalo, then Baltimore, then beat the NFC's best team.  Respect.
