If they fire Granato who is interim HC?  I don't think they can possibly promote from within. Is Ted Nolan available to come back for 6 months and then get fired again?

Power had an absolutely brutal night.  As did Tage, Tuch, and fourth line.  That was one of the worst performances I have witnessed in this era of futility.

I would bet it will be from within.  Maybe Appert from Rochester or Ellis as the interim.  They will pound their chests at a 14-14-5 finish and remove the interim tag 4th of July week without any real signs of a coaching search

  2. Just an amazing game.

The evolution from 7-3 at halftime to 38-37 was insane.  By the 4th, North Central couldn't be stopped and could score at will.  Boyes always had an answer to keep Cortland ahead.  Then it came down to a gutsy call to go for 2 and Cortland finally stuffed NC.

The jubilation, with some disbelief mixed in by the Cortland players and coaches was fun to watch, contrasted with the crying from the gut of the NC players.

It was really sports at its finest.  Both teams were terrific and fun to watch.

Beat the Bruins at their home, then lose at home to the .500-ish Canadiens. This team is wildly inconsistent game to game. You never know which Sabres you're going to get.

That inconsistency indicates a coaching problem. It's Granato's job to prepare the team and press whatever buttons are needed to get them on the ice ready to play. He's not fulfilling the basics of his job description.

Its like that all over the league.  There is a lot of parity and good teams getting knocked off by bad.  With the loser point, the league is designed to make .500 very achievable and most teams/fanbases feel like they are in it.

This season is basically a lost cause already, and probably will be by New year's.  They need to go in the neighborhood of 32-15-5 the rest of the season and they are incapable of winning back to back games.  They habitually come out flat and spot the opposition 2 or 3 goals.  Ownership sits there because of 'communication, authenticity, family, wanting to be here, and being comfortable'.

I like and respect Granato's story and all... but this team right now is the definition of needing a coaching change, and it probably should have been done 3 weeks ago.  NHL coaches have a very limited shelf-life.  Craig Berube got fired the other day and he has won a cup recently.  Granato is the 9th longest-tenured coach in the NHL and he has accomplished nothing tangible.

  4. What makes Jerrod Mayo such a great hc candidate for them?

Imo that organization needs a deep cut and face-lift, especially holding a premium pick in decent looking draft.

As far as belichick's next team?  It'll be interesting and a little of talk and hype, but I don't see him finding success.  The NFL has passed him by, and he will probably demand a lot of clout.   He will surround himself with that same tired group because he is comfortable with them and they are the only ones who will tolerate him.

North Central is a monster and to be fair, Cortland had a really soft road to the finals. All the juggernauts outside of Mount were in the opposite bracket. Macon actually played Cortlands first round opponent Endicott in the regular season and Endicott blew them out so the result between Cortland and Macon wasn't tremendously surprising to me. Good team obviously as their only loss was to a good Susquehanna team but Cortland hasn't had to play anyone in the league of North Central yet in this entire tournament. I'll be surprised if Cortland keeps it close.

Macon was undefeated, no?  edit:  They also beat Ithaca 46-0

But yeah, I agree, that the Cortland road was light on the monsters, Mount Union was upset and all the Wisconsin and midwest teams were on the other side.  It would be a pretty huge upset.  I watched the Macon game though and Cortland had a look of a team that was in the zone in all phases.

  6. My alma mater has been on a terrific run through the Division III playoffs.  In the semi-final, they pulled the upset and smashed Randolph-Macon 49-14 (and it wasn't that close) on Saturday

Their quarterback is Buffalo/Ken West product Zac Boyes and he has smashed most Cortland records this season.  He looks terrific

Cortland has never been to the semifinals, let alone the Stagg Bowl.  The last time a New York State team was in it was Ithaca in 1991.

They play a machine though in North Central (Illinois).  They have been to 4 straight Stagg Bowls now and have won 2.  Friday at 7PM on ESPN U.

  7. There was one thrown to Davis on the sideline.  He was covered... but in true Gabe Davis fashion, he just pulled up and made zero attempt to look hungry and go for the ball.

The guy seems to have zero appetite for getting his nose dirty and winning contested balls or balls out of his range.  It drives me nuts and I cant wait for him to be out of here

His mom needs to shut up
