  1. What was that all about anyway? Well, since you didn't read the post that I replied to, here it is from jboyst62: "Plus, his attitude would be a disruption to this team. His "me" first BS is pathetic. Stop with the Brees threads, he's a douche." Who gives a rats ass if Brees has a "me first attitude" & is "a douche".

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::worthy:

    Well said!

Montana took the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game vs the Bills. Favre took the Vikings to the NFC Championship game vs the Bounty Hunters...excuse me...Saints.

"What was that about anyway?" was referring to Jauron and Levy. Thats why I followed it up with a few sentences about how they drafted character guys. I read your post.

  2. I'd rather have a team of pompous azzes that are winners, compared to the good character softees that Levy/Jauron wanted.

What was that all about anyway? I understand why you want guys with good character on your team, and seems like the current Bills squad is full of talented guys with good character. In retrospect, it really does appear they made alot of draft picks solely on how nice a guy was. They dug a deep hole that Chan seems to be climbing this team out of.

But back to the topic, Breese is amazing but not the piece the Bills are looking for due to what he would cost. Drafting a franchize qb will be the next step if this team proves to be solid on the field this year. And I truly believe if the Bills stay healthy this year, they will be a playoff caliber team. Finally, a roster with enough NFL talent to compete..its been so long.

  3. This is exactly where you lose me.

Just because a person assumes the risk doesn't suddenly make them defenseless.

I get no thrill from a 250 pound linebacker launching himself into a 190 pound receiver who is concentrating only on catching the ball. To me that's gratuitous violence.

    It's savagery, IMO.

If you eliminate this type of play from the game FOR BOTH TEAMS, you'll still have numerous plays in a game where the play or game is decided by a monumental hit like the one you described. All things being equal the more physical team will still win.

Even without gratuitous violence there will still be smashmouth football… a linebacker and a fullback meeting in the hole… the nutcracker, the Oklahoma Drill, all these things will STILL EXIST IN FOOTBALL.

Teams will still impose their will.

Teams will still be making "statement drives."

It'll still "be about attitude" in goal line situations.

But you won't have bigger men trying to maim smaller men who are trying to catch the ball.

You won't have defensive linemen with full running starts smashing into defenseless, yes, defenseless smaller men.

I love a good, hard sack. But when the attacker is going full speed and hitting a stationary target who he outweighs substantially, I see no reason to spear the quarterback for good measure.

    Violent football? Always.

    Intimidation? Always.

    Gratuitous savagery? Never.

I dont think I'm in too much of a disagreement with you. I dont think a guy spearing a qb should be legal, I dont think guys should go after knees, and I even agree with the no launch rule in th secondary. But I think if a receiver comes across the middle and concentrating on the football, he should be lit up within the rules of the game. Like the Nigel Bradam hit that was floating around here for a while.

The hit I saw on colt ny James Harrison was dirty in my opinion. He stuck his crown right into colts helmet. The Nigel Bradam hit was clean in my option. Full force, used his shoulder, didn't leave the ground. How do you feel about the Bradham hit?

  4. Thanks.

The takeaway for me was that no one in any profession should have an "old school" "traditionalist" bias against changes that make their job safer.

That's why James Harrison is such a moron, IMO… because the rule changes make the game safer for him too but all he wants to do is bellyache about how he can't drill defenseless people smaller than himself.

I saw the hit on Colt, I didn't see the other hits. If he didn't lead with the crown if his helmet and used his shoulder, would you feel the same way? Again, I'm just referencing that one hit.

Because I haven't seen video of his hits, I cant really comment on Harrison in particular. But i would like to comment on the game as a whole. I played football from the time I was 7 until I had a career ending tare my sophomore year of college. And the biggest part of the game was the physical part. Let's say your toughest linebacker takes on a star runninback in the hole and got plowed. It affects the team mentally. Oh ****, this team is tough roles through the back of your head. Conversely, if your linebacker crushes the guy, or crushes their fullback, it can get you pumped and ready to play.

The physical part of football separates the game from any other. And the physical part of football has a huge impact on the mental part. I am ok with equipment changes, even not allowing DBS to launch themselves and leave there feet. But I wouldn't consider any of these guys defenseless. They chose to play the game and know there could be a price to pay. All of these guys suing the league over concussions, implications that football had something to do with jr Seaus death, it's all BS. People need to be responsible for the decisions and choices they make.

I had 3 shoulder surgeries, and two surgeries on a flexor tendon in my hand. I am not supposed to put more than ten pounds of pressure on the replaced tendon. I've never been paid to play football, and I wouldnt trade that experience for the world. Limited mobility and all. These guys are living out a lot of people's dreams and getting paid for it. If they can't handle it, they should choose to be accountants or teachers.

  5. You lighten up buddy

Who the hell do you think you are bashing one of our high profile posters? There was no reason for a response like this, jw's entitled to express his opinion.

As is chandler81. I dont think anyone should make condescending posts. Even "high profile" posters. Are you trying to earn brownie points or something?

  6. Who the hell do you think you are, bashing posters for their views? A pen in your hand is NOT mightier than the sword, scribe. Obviously, your 'insights' don't serve you well because, yes, your cohorts jumped all over VY's Dream Team comment to the point where even the lowly Bills were stoked to measure themselves against the media-hyped Super squad. Every team the Eagles faced brought their A-game. Here's another reality check for you: Young has all but ruined a pro football career through carelessness and belligerence to authority figures. Then he walked out on his team and reportedly -probably by you- tried to commit suicide. Yet another failure on his part. Neither you or I are in his head, so we don't know specifically what his intentions are or where he's 'at'. But we know he considers himself a starter and that, coupled with consistent immaturity, has many Bills fans wary. IMO, giving the 'backup QB' face time with the press is a questionable choice.

    Lighten up.

Haha! Bring it dont sing it! I love when condescending posts get torn up.

  7. I think there is approximately 1% chance of it happening, but if (god forbid) VY gets a lot of PT this season and performs well, he would very likely want to stay and sign a new contract. Unless it just happened to be that Fitz was playing very well, too, and then got hurt, but is projected to be back and being the starter next year with VY going back to back-up.

That scenario, of course, would be the least of the Bills problems, because that meant that Fitz played well and is a solid starter, and the team is good enough that a decent QB can come in and play well and win with Gailey and Lee as mentors.

I think you've summed it up. Fitz is here to stay until the Bills draft the franchise qb. And then there is the 1% chance Fitz gets hurt, VY resurrects his career and Disney makes a movie about a former champions battle w depression who finds his way back to mental stability and winning.

  8. I agree with you. But there are a lot of people who think no competition for the QB position is what's best for the team.

I think a qb competition is situational. In the Bills current case, I dont think an open qb competition is what's best for the team. For example, if Gailey decided to leave the starter position open on the depth chart in the locker room during training camp and split reps. The guys on the team believe in Fitz and believe he's their leader. He's earned the spot and should only get better this year with a full offseason under his belt. (Disclaimer: I am not implying anything. This is just for the sake of conversation on the topic)

However, nothing would be better than VY having a good camp and pushing Fitz to keep his performance up. I doubt Thigpen pushes Fitz in any way.

If you took Fitz out of the equation, an open qb competition would be great in that situation.

Some people might disagree. They might believe an open qb competition w VY and Fitz is a good thing.

  9. People watch ESPN because they think it's "cool" and "hip" to watch anything sports related. And the poor guys doing anything NOT sports related (comic books, video games e.t.c) are deemd "uncool" by this caveman-like, barbaric society.

Ha. I love video games. But I watch espn because I don't have much of a choice if I want to watch a sports program. And to be honest, with all of the crappy reality tv out there, ESPN is a much better alternative to that garbage. When it comes to the Bills, I like to come here though. If posters didn't try to correct grammar or constantly flame people to see who has the bigger "Internet" balls, this sight would be close to perfect for a Bills fan.

  10. And that one thing missing for a good long run is to have a Franchise QB. I hope the Bills will find that soon.

    That would be really great.

In the meantime, I like that he's building a solid team. The Bills have ruined some rookie qb careers over the years. A lot of the qbs that have become franchise guys, (rothlesberger, e manning, flacco) were drafted into teams with a great run game and a great defense. I am not saying JP or Trent have the talent of the afore mentioned, but it's hard to develop a qb when he's getting crushed or on the run most of the time. Edwards showed some flashes of being a good qb, but he got scared after taking some big hits and dumped the ball to marshawn every other pass play.

If last year was Fitz' rookie year, would you feel any different about him? The guy has a lot of years left to play qb. This will be his make or break year.

  11. Free Clue: the Bills didn't hire the King of the Wildcat as their QB coach because they plan on scrapping the Wildcat and cutting the guy they acquired to run it.

Ok, then why did they pretty much stop running it last year? Some games, they didn't run the wildcat at all. Eat your free clue for breakfast.

The wildcat is not a winning formation. It's a gimmick for teams that don't have the talent to run a pro style offense. Not one team in the AFC or NFC championship games used the wildcat last year. What does that tell you?

It's arbitrary whether you agree with me or not. Facts are facts. The Bills barely ran the wildcat last year, and brad smith didn't return many kickoffs. Why pay the money for a guy that can give you maybe 3 plays a game. Now, you've got a clue.

  12. Who would be willing to pay B Smiths over inflated contract, especially with his putrid numbers last year? Just cut him.

He's a talented player, but I'm not sure how he fits in the offense. He made a couple big 3rd down conversions last year. But he also should have thrown the ball a few times to wide open guys. The bills didn't run the wildcat very much at all. So if brad smith is not returning kickoffs due to the new rule change, and he's not running the wildcat, maybe they should coach him up on becoming a better receiver. Otherwise, look for a trade.

  13. The fact that you, some anonymous Internet Bills fan, thinks that Buddy is actually making a mistake (and by extension, that you have a better grip on the state of the franchise) is laughable at best. Why more people don't have you on ignore is beyond me.

How do I ignore this guy? He complains about everything.

The Bills just seriously upgraded the number 2 qb position. If Fitz were to go down, the Bills would have a really hard time winning games. Even if you believe Fitz isn't the guy, this is still the best option available and a good move. Some people will never be happy

  14. Shh...there are some realists lurking around here who will tell you the Bills haven't done anything yet. They need to remind us the results will only show up in the W-L column.

    Shh...

    Love it.

The Bills have eaten ass for more than a decade.

    But yeah, I'm excited too.

Hahaha. No more tossed salad for the Bills!

  15. Never understood posts like this, and never will.

I don't either. Why not just go with it. I would not enjoy being a fan if I had that type of attitude. There is some truth to the OP's content, but as a fan, there is nothing wrong with being hopeful. 1 Collin Cowherd in this world is enough.

The Bills have addressed a lot of issues and had a great offseason. There is reason to celebrate. If you can't be happy about this offseason, I'm not sure you can be happy about anything the Bills do. Just enjoy it.

The OP acts like the last 12 years just happened because it's the Bills, as if decisions and outcomes are based on bad karma. Look at any year honestly and you can see a combination of good and bad moves that resulted in our playoff drought.

People are optimistic now because anyone with a sense for the game can see the logic of the moves by Buddy Nix. Now there are still intangibles that can affect our season that no one can control: injuries, bad refs calls, etc. But of the things we can control there is a sense of competency we have not had in a while.

    PTR

Also, there is a great vibe coming out of the locker room. The players feel like they are on to something special. Team chemistry is a very important part of winning. Call me optimistic, naive,whatever...but something feels different this year. I believe the Bills are building a playoff caliber team.

  16. Completely unfair characterization of Marshawn. He did his share of foolish things on the field, but to suggest that he wasn't a team player is off base.

You are putting words in my mouth. And he did foolish things OFF the field not on the field as you said. And those decisions affected the team. How is that unfair to say he only cared about himself when he made so many bad decisions. Choosing to carry an illegal gun and blunts led to his suspension which affected the team. He didnt think twice.

  17. Um. Apparently the NFL and the Buffalo Bills think Fred was discovered 5 years ago.

    http://m.nfl.com/players/stats/JAC173789/fred-jackson/

And for the record, SOME of us here were big believers in Fred the first time we saw him. OTHERS here thought his success would interfere with Marshawn Lynchs overrated body of work.

    Just sayin

I was one of those who thought Marshawn needed more carries. I thought he had more potential then Fred because of what he did at Cal. I was wrong, and I'm happy I was wrong. Marshawn only cared about himself. The current roster seems to be full of guys that want to build something. Fred thinks they are on the brink of something special. I hope he's right.

  18. I did receive a paycheck. I was paid as a Scout assistant, not a scout. You thought I spent 13 years of my life reviewing film for free?

No, coaches are not good film evaluators. That's why there are seperate titles for scouts and coaches. That's why coaches aren't GM's. That's why owners are reluctant to give GM powers to even the best of coaches.

I never said a scout is not a good evaluator.

Ok, so if coaches aren't good at evaluating players, then why dont scouts put the starting line ups together and coaches just stick to calling plays? Ridiculous.

  19. As I was saying, ignorant fans...

I have no sour grapes. At the time of the fiasco I was firmly on Peters side. However, after a few years, the Bills really did get a fair deal. Peters is playing a little above average in Philly and the Bills got a good center and didn't have to pay $60 million to a tackle that doesn't play as well as a $60 million tackle should.

As far as a few people go, how many GM's have you worked with? How many years have you been a scout? Didn't think so.

What's with the chip on your shoulder? You claim to have been a talent scout, but now you are posting like you are the ultimate authority on a fan board. Why? Either you weren't goo enough to move up into a front office position or you weren't good enough to keep your job. Or, you are just lying.

Get off your high horse, and come back down to earth. You may disagree with people, and you probably are better at evaluating talent then 90% of the board. But you dont have to talk down to people In order to make a point. Relax bro.

  20. If Revis played for the Bills the past two seasons he would have sucked too. When QBs can hold the ball for 5,6 or more seconds it becomes a lot harder on the corners. Don't like the move. Florence provided veteran leadership. If you have to make a cut then cut the weak link (McGee).

With that said, I think there's more cuts coming.

Good points. Hard to play corner in the nfl without a pass rush. Seemed to be a great leader and team guy. Does anybody know the difference in his CAP number from Mcgee's? McGee might be on his way out as well. How many cb's have the Bills kept on the roster in the past?

Even though Florence didn't have a solid 2011, I can't help but like the guy. He was a team player.
