  1. "This is what you play the game for — to get to Hawaii"....Jason Peters

NO! you play the game to get to the Super Bowl. But most players really don't care about that, it's all about ME, not the TEAM.

So sad, but at least you heard it straight from the players mouth. He doesn't even seem to care that the Bills aren't going to the playoffs again. His butt will be on the beach in Hawaii thinking about his next holdout.

When did he get to be so cocky? Even last year, I just remembered hearing a humbled and quite southern kid. Then after his horrid start, he said "i'm playing ok." Then the guy started screaming at fans after that one terrible home loss. Now, he's pretty much saying F the fans. And the fact that you play to get to Hawaii? Man, that is a statement right there.

The only thing that I've heard or seen this guy do that I stood up and clapped all year is when he called out the Toronto game. I thought that was cool, especially since he was the only one out of 53 that actually showed any emotion, unlike Stroud's "everybody's happy playing indoors," or Kawika's "if they make money i make money." But at the same time, you knew he probably had a personal reason to be saying that stuff, another chance to take a shot at an organization that "slighted" him.

You know that him and his agent are going to demand a top contract this year. He's gonna claim that he was promised, and a Pro Bowl vote is "all that matters" in his mind, regardless of how the organization or fans "only point out his bad plays."

This is the supposed OT FA 2009 class. http://profootball.scout.com/2/816325.html

I think if Peters doesn't hold out and has a full offseason of training, he probably can be the most dominating tackle in the league. But i think this relationship is past repair. I think the Bills should take any money they spend on Peters and give it to Jordon Gross. Since the players and coaches supposedly know his value, we should grab as many draft picks as we can for Peters. I think we might be able to get more than 2 first rounders for the guy. Gross is going to get heated interest all over the league, especially from hometown Carolina. But remember: Peters wanted 11 mil a year last year, and with another pro bowl and rising salaries, it will only go up every year.

I know its tough losing yet another player that we've created, regardless if you think its peters, the organizations, or a combination of the two's fault. But getting Gross or a top rated OT and some high draft picks would go a long way to fixing this problem.

  2. Alpha dog your logic is laughable. Not only a first round pick, but also Trent, or a third? Where is the precedent for such a high price for a guy on decline? You will argue that the qb's below are of lesser talent (which is true), or in Favre's case, significantly older. But a first and a third? Come on man, you are forgetting one thing in all of this: salary. Daunte signed a 100 mil deal back in 2002, and he's making 10-12 mil until 2013. If Philly got rid of him, it would probably be because they feel that his salary doesn't match his performance anymore, and they would dump the guy, most likely for cheap.

I couldn't imagine Philly getting anything more than a 3rd or a 4th for McNabb, maybe a package of picks, or at most, a second if they got lucky.

29 yr old Daunte Culpepper = traded, 2nd round draft pick

32 yr old Steve McNair = traded, 4th round pick

39 yr old Brett Favre = traded, 4th round draft pick

26 yr old UNPROVEN Matt Schaub = traded, two 2nd round picks

Oh and by the way, do you still think that the Bills were up by 4 instead of 3 when we ran that play with 2:06 left?

  3. Did anyone see his face after we got McKelvins kick return called back? It actually had emotion on his face....angry but at the same time he looked like he was going to cry. It was the face of a man coaching for his life.

I did feel sorry for the guy. But the thing is, he can't hack it at this point, and as sad as it is, he's gonna walk all they way to the bank with a couple mil. So he can't be that sad.

  4. Worst case scenario with two running plays that fail to pick up a first down.... Time outs are utilized by the Jets, so they are left with the ball, and the need to advance the ball to the Buffalo 35 yard line realistically. The Jets offense had fizzled in the 4th quarter and didn't have a first down to show for nearly 13 minutes of football. I still maintain that with Moorman punting and the Bills coverage units doing what they usually do, the decision should have been run the ball, and the likelihood is the Jets would have had 1:10 or so (maybe less) to matriculate the ball down the field. I like the Bills chances of winning with this plan. No question the wrong call was made!!

Especially with the fact that they didn't get a first down the whole quarter! And the fact that when they did get the ball back after JPs pick, our D stuffed them 4 times and got a turnover on downs. There was absolutely no way they could have scored any offensive points on us unless Leo Washington had a nice return

  5. if jp dumps it away it is the 2 minute warning any ways, so the clock stops. But it has to be on coaching.

    A. Give it to a running back who has 2 fumbles in his career?

    B. Give it to a quater back who has proven he can't hang on to the ball? :wallbash:

As I've posted on here, and others have, check this video:

    http://www.nfl.com/partner?partnerType=plays-defense

JP was hit betwen 2:03 or 2:02 left. If he had thrown the ball away at 2:03, there would still be 3 seconds left on the clock. A third down run would have then again stopped at the 2 min warning, and we would have to punt the ball to the Jets with 2 mins left and 2 timeouts because they didnt have to use them.

Enough of this talk...this conversation is over about if it was a good call or not...it was obviously a bad call...some people in the media even comparing it to the Miracle in the Meadowlands with idiot Herm "We play to win the game" Edwards.

  6. You know another time when Lynch had the hot hand? Against Cleveland. Remember when he couldn't get a first down after 3 straight carries then?

I'm sorry, but this play properly executed results in a first down, EVERYTIME. One first down would have been the dagger in the Jets' collective heart.

It was NOT a poor play call.

Yea so we call a play for a pass to McIntyre, a guy that has all but 3 balls thrown to him all season? A dagger in throat? The Jets had a dagger in their throught all quarter...again, they DID NOT HAVE A FIRST DOWN ALL QUARTER...when was the last time a bills defense did this?

The cleveland game was different...Lynch had just run 4 running plays and gained 17 yards. The Jets D was beat. It was over.

If you remember, we got the ball back TWICE after that, which is remarkable in its own. And the Jets Offense couldn't do anything even after their D came up with picks. Our defense even held them on FOURTH DOWN. And you're saying that they probably could have drove and kicked a field goal?

Usually you have some good comments big cat...not today

  7. You are missing the point of why this call was bad...it was only 2nd down and 5 and we are up 4 not 3, meaning the Jets need a TD to win not just a FG. They had 2 plays to pick up the first, so give it to the hot hand on 2nd in Lynch. If he gets stuff, so be it, then you can argue throwing on 3rd to try and seal the win, or running again to take the clock down some more if you dont get it. With our excellent punting team, you run with Lynch here on 2nd and 3rd and take time off the clock or timeouts out of NY's hands because even if we dont get the 1st, we will pin them deep with little time on the clock and them needing a TD.

If we are up only 3pts or less, then we run on 2nd, then pass on 3rd if its any more than 3rd and 2 to seal the win rather than risk a punt a couple of quick throws to lose on a FG by NY. But it wasnt, they needed a freaking TD to win, so run the ball, run down the clock, if we dont get it, we pin them deep and make them go 90 yards for a TD with little time and one or no timeouts. Just that simple...

Not to mention, the way Lynch was running, there was a good chance he can get the 5 yards for the first with 2 chances at it.

Alphadog...you are mistaken...the score was 27-24 at that time and we were up by THREE points not TWO.

Check the Play by Play http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playbyplay?g...20&period=4

Secondly, there was absolutely NO REASON WHATSOEVER why we should have passes the ball, on 2nd or 3rd down. Absolutely no reason. As you yourself stated, Lynch had the "hot hand," and even though LosTman was pretty adequate on the last scoring drive (4 for 4), you dance with the one that brung ya, in this case, Lynch.

Third, we wouldn't lose on a FG if they scored on the next drive...it would have tied the game up and gone to overtime...that is after McKelvin gets another shot at a kick return. Also, its good to note that our defense hadn't allowed a first down in the entire 4th quarter.

I would be hard pressed to think that the Jets could have mustered a first with 1:30 left and one timeout (that is if we ran on both plays and made the Jets spend their 2nd).

  8. The call was not that bad. They were trying to win the game. The whole concept of calling the play time because there was 2:06 left was acutally a good idea. If its incomplete the clock is going to stop anyway and if it works then can run some more time off the clock.

The problem with the call is who they entrusted to execute the play. Everyone in the stadium, watching the game and basically anyone who has ever seen Losman play knows he is a turnover machine. Losman botched the play not the coaches. All he had to do was not fumble or throw a pick and he did. If the play is successful everyone is sitting here saying "oh what a great call". But i guess that comes with the territory.

In the Cleveland game the coaches were criticized for being too conservative on the final drive with 3 straight runs. Now, when they are agressive and playingto win the game and not playing to lose it they are killed for it.

Nope. Watch this video, first provided by Lori. http://www.nfl.com/partner?partnerType=plays-defense.

Lostman was hit with 2:02 or 2:03 left on the clock. Even IF he threw the ball away (still to much to ask of the 5th year veteran who professes he's still learning from his mistakes) right before he got hit, there would have been at least 2:03 or 2:04 left on the clock. Then we would have run on third and hit the two minute warning, without the Jets having to waste ANY of their timeouts.

Now, if we had run on 2nd and 5 (after Lynch had run four plays for 17 yards and the last for 5), we would have probably got a few more and hit the two min warning. Third down, even if we didn't get the first, we'd still force the Jets to call their 2nd timeout.

They'd probably get the ball back with 1:45 left and 1 timeout on their 30 yard line....all the pressure on Brett Favre and an offense that hadn't got a first down the ENTIRE FOURTH QUARTER! As miserable a game that was, when was the last time our defense didn't allow a team to get a first down in a quarter...on top of that, IN THE FOURTH!

Another thing I noticed on this drive: JP Lostman, game clock extraordinaire, usually lets the clock go down to 1 or 2 seconds on every other play (if he even gets the ball off), allowing the defense to know precisely when they should get off their blocks on every down. But on the last drive, instead of milking every second of the play clock that was ticking down from 4 mins, 3 mins to 2 mins, he was calling plays with 5 or 6 seconds left on the clock. Inexplicable. If we had punted with under 2 mins and Favre had scored on them, I think this would have been the talk of the town today.

  9. Here is what Dickie said about that play:

The Jets were surprised the Bills were passing in that situation, expecting Buffalo to try to run out the clock. After all, Marshawn Lynch gained 127 yards on 21 carries and New York was struggling to stop him. Instead, coach Dick Jauron overruled offensive coordinator Turk Schonert.

"Clearly the responsibility for the last call, the play-action pass, that was mine," Jauron said. "That goes right on me. It backfired clearly and caused us to lose the game. ... It's one of those times in a game that's pretty good for a pass, right before the 2-minute."

Even when he put the blame on himself, he still thinks it was a GOOD PLAYCALL!

  10. Donovan signed a 12 year 115 mil contract in 2002 with 20 mil guaranteed. Unless he has restructured, he is under contract until 2013. Usually, those last few years of these contracts are pretty bloated too.

If we get Donovan, I expect a steve mcnair type guy at this point in his career, especially if he has to learn a new playbook on a new team...something hes never had to do.

I also expect quite a few bounce passes to receivers...

  11. Moulds looked like the worst player in the league his rookie and sophomore years, and I remember all the flak he got about it in the papers and on the radio. The guy had hands like Robert Royal...would drop every other pass.

  12. I've said in several posts I think Ralph gives DJ another year regardless. However, I think Ralph makes him overhaul the offensive staff and requires a high powered OC to come in who is then likely to be the next coach if DJ falls on his face again. I think the extension was real and no way does Ralph eat the cost of it now. The only way this scenario changes is if DJ resigns at the end of the season.

Ralph gave himself an out when he pointed to the lack of talent after the Miami game.

I like your optimism but every "high powered" OC in the league makes more money that Juaron....and what high "profile" OC would want to come to buffalo to let his career die?

  13. Heh, I just looked. You'll never guess who one of the Chargers 5 wins was against that year.

    http://www.databasefootball.com/boxscores/...=SDG&lg=NFL

Yep...that year they were calling the Chargers the Buffalo Bills of the West because John Butler and AJ Smith took Dougie over along with Marcellus Wiley and a bunch of other bills.

And they beat us by three points i think i recall...also that year i remember the Bengals started out by beating the future SB champ Pats and good Baltimore team to go 2-0 (i think?) and pundits were saying that the Chargers and the Bungles finally got out of the Dark Ages...and then they both fell on their faces the rest of the year.

  14. The NFL needs an majority owner that owns at least 30% of the team, and there cannot be more than 24 different interests.

So if the Bills are roughly sold for a billion, the majority owner would need at least 300 mil. Moreover, the NFL has rules on how much debt a team can carry.

From what I've heard, Jimbo has a lot of extended family (a few of them with some serious cash) in Pittsburgh that will make up the group that will bid for the team when Ralphie croaks. Hopefully this might mean that Tommy will join the equation.

  15. Note that not one of those quotes actually calls McKelvin a bust, though.

what, and saying that the bills "blew" the first round and calling mckelvin an "illiterate stuttering project" doesnt qualify as labeling the guy a bust? And those were thread titles not quotes.

And, oh, by the way here is a quote from Virgil1528:

"He got absolutely abused last week against the Chargers and hasn't done a thing on Kick Returns. As of right now, he is an absolute bust. "

  16. I'd trade Fins for Avery straight up. Regardless of his shenanigans, he's still awesome at what he does on the ice and I think the fans would love it.

Sabres need something, anything to get them out of this lackluster play.

    EDIT:

By suspending Avery, the NHL turned an irrelevant game in December between Dallas and Calgary that people probably would have watched (to see what Dion would have done) back to where it was originally, irrelevant.

  17. I always see these posts "for all those that were calling him a bust." Did people actually say that? Just because someone was criticizing the team drafting McKelvin, doesn't necessarily mean they called him a bust. I don't remember seeing that at all.

Um, yes plenty of people did. Here ya go:

http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...871&hl=bust "Bills blew the 1st round of the draft...."

http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...867&hl=bust "Dominic Rogers-Cromartie..2 picks today, we drafted a illiterate stuttering project."

http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...074&hl=bust "Defend these players to me, Leodis McKelvin and Robert Royal"

http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...758&hl=bust "Is it still to early to call, Leodis McKelvin, James Hardy and Chris Ellis busts?"

http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/columns/story/493112.html Jerry Sullivan:McKelvin provides little help"

This is only a sample of what was said about McKelvin on this board. I never believed he was a bust because he's still a rookie. And to tell the truth, I was pretty surprised he won Rookie of the Month honors in Nov. Obviously, he's been sick as a punt returner, but I thought he only had the one great game against the lowly Chiefs, a few good outings, and some pretty terrible coverage on a few key plays in Nov (that early SF TD last week). Maybe its more of the fact that there really werent too many other rookies out there last month that played stellar on special teams while also having a career game on one side of the ball.

But again, he's a rookie, and rookie years don't really determine all that much for how they will play the rest of their career, save a few exceptional players every year. I think he'll turn in to a great player, but I wouldnt read too much into how he's performed this year. And hopefully he can top that career game time and time again.

  18. That info is incorrect. The game will be televised in Buff and Roch even if nobody shows up to the game. It has already been "sold out" from the Bills perspective for many months. Not sure about how it will work in Toronto...

Is it though? I understand the logic that Rogers Co "bought" all the seats, and now theyre just reselling them. But where have you read this, where is the proof? This toronto article is the only proof I've seen anywhere about a blackout situation,

While those in the journalistic field obviously do not have a monopoly on the truth and facts (especially a Toronto paper which probably doesnt understand the intricacies of the NFL blackout rules), it is still a better source than yourself.

No offense, I just wanna see proof one way or the other that future TO games won't be blacked out if they dont sell.

    EDIT:

I am inclined to believe that this reporter is wrong because I haven't seen it reported whatsoever in any Buffalo paper or news source...but its not like they havent dropped the ball before so I dont know.
