  1. It's not a joke. I was having a fit last year when they kept trotting O'Neill out there to play DE.

Yes I remember, but I would hardly call it a "rotation." I watched every game last year, and I don't remember him on the field for more than 5 plays. Could be wrong of course.

  2. I like Schobel. He's a high motored guy, usually pretty good against the run, and when he's hot, he's hot. Last year, him and Kelsay played almost every snap of the first eight games because we didn't have any backups. His stats were low for a reason. And just because he isn't getting sacks doesn't necessarily mean he's not getting pressure.

That being said, I don't think I would put Schobel up there in the top 5 DE category; I don't know if you could put him in the top 7. The top guys consistently get pressure on the quarterback game in and game out. With Schobel, it is a lot of streakiness in his game.

I consider him more of a Phil Hansen guy, but obviously better. I've been saying for years that I think the Bills need that crazy, big and nasty compliment to Schobel that terrorizes quarterbacks and allows him to not be doubleteamed. Granted, you have to give a lot of credit to the guy for being the only name on that line the last couple of years.

My other criticism of Schobel is leadership. There's a reason why Chris Kelsay is a captain and Schobel is not. You can pass it off that Schobel is a soft spoken guy, but you expect the guy that was the highest paid player on your team (that goes to Lee now) to at least take some sort of leadership role.

I've never once (correct me if I'm wrong) heard Schobel shoulder any blame in one game over the past eight years. What I do hear is jaded talk and a defensive attitude about his play. I'm not quite sold on the fact that the other players on the defense like the guy too much. I think sometimes he can take a petulant childish attitude towards the game.

I'm not sold on the fact that he wants to be in Buffalo either (other than the fact that he's making 7 mil a year (who would turn that down). He's seen so many tough years, I wouldn't blame the guy. I wouldn't be suprised that when the two sides do (if they do) part ways, Schobel might take some cheap shots out the door (a la Miro Satan).

  3. I wasn't sold on Bush when he came out. To me, guys that weight under 200 pounds won't cut it in the NFL. I'm sure not everybody would believe that I wouldn't like Reggie Bush with all the hype coming out of college (no I'm not giving a LaDaris I told you so comment, don't worry).

I'm a guy that has always hated a Westbrook player - I still hate the guy! I just don't think a player like this is an everydown back, and you always need to compensate by having a smash mouth running back to go with him.

But he did impress me his rookie year. The guy can catch the ball - he had 88 catches, as a RB and as a ROOKIE! He already has 38 this year. That is crazy, and he is an X factor. He did grow on me.

I would love to have a guy like him on my team. But I wouldn't want to waste a number 2 overall pick on him. Nor would I want to give him 10 million a year (6 years 62 million). That's just absurd, especially since you would need to pay another 2-3 million or high draft pick to find a guy to compliment him. For everyone that complained about paying Lee 9 mil a year (which I think was totally worth it), paying Reggie Bush that much more is too much.

Overall, the cost is just too much for a guy like that. Still love to have him on the team though, haha.

  4. What a bust he has been.

We had two high 1st rounders and as it stands now we ended up with a decent safety out of it.

    I'm not impressed.

So first you called Lynch overrated and now youre saying that Whitner is a "decent" safety. Donte is one of the best and most respected safeties in the league and he's the leader of that defense. All 24 years of his age - after playing 37 games.

You talent evaluations are a little strange buddy..

  5. Obviously it was strange to see JP not included in ANY way in the article. It was even funnier (if that's the right word) when Hamdan said "I like to see guys successful, I know not everybody thinks that way."

But the thing is, we shouldn't hate on JP. Sulking? How so? He's not going in front of the media bitching, moaning, complaining how he is mistreated. He's taking this like a man.

And, if by the terrible chance that Trent does get injured, can you imagine the MASSIVE chip on JP's shoulder when he comes in the game? The dude wants a contract somewhere next year, and by channeling all the rage at the Bills he might have a great game if his number is called on.

It was a little scary starting the year with him as a backup, because I'm sure almost all of us were scared of the scenario where Trent doesn't play well or gets injured, JP comes in and plays OK to good, and then bounces at the end of the year with the Bills still not having a QB. But Trent's first 4 games have definitely solidified his role as a starter and leader on this team, and I don't think there's anything he could do in the next 12 games to change that (knock on wood).

TBD needs to stop harassing JP/putting speculation out there that he is sulking. The kid has kept his mouth shut, been a team player, and you really can't ask anything more out of a guy that lost his job.

    My two cents...

  6. My favorite part of this conference was this:

"But what’s his name knew he could run, he’s a friend of Belichick’s. Mike Lombardi."

Anybody that says Al Davis is not senile is senile himself. He can't even remember his own people. Sounds a lot like Ronald Reagan. That conference was hilarious, the rambling, the pauses, the blank stares, the creepy gray turtleneck that was too big on him....I felt like I was (sadly) listening to a great grandparent.

  7. Whats interesting about this case, and what hasn't been said here or on sports media anywhere, is what this is in relation to Jamal Lewis. Henry backed up Jamal at Tennessee, and during his Junior year, split time with the older guy.

Everyone remembers Jamal's infamous cell phone call that sent him to prison over an alleged coke deal before the start of his rookie season.

You guys think that Travis and Jamal might have had a side business at Tenn?

  8. Yeah but everyone knows (at least Bills fans, and those on this board) that the salary cap is unequal. Everyone knows that it will only get worse for small market teams (85 mil to 122 mil in 5 years).

His whole part about teams not being able to keep their players b/c of the cap is crap - the free agent pool has sucked the past few years because big market teams re-upped their free agents. The few good free agents on the market were those that played for small market teams who wouldn't get in a bidding war.

For a kid attending Yale, he's not too bright.

  9. Did anyone see the McGahee screen in the first half? He caught the ball 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage, had 3 defenders in front of him, and decided to step out of bounds one yard before the line of scrimmage instead of fight for something. That was terrible. With the way our OLINE has been playing, Marshawn sees these type of plays develop on every series, and ends up with positive yards 8 out of 10 times. So happy about this switch!

  10. Flowers - excellent football player, limited athlete, cannot play man in NFL without a safety behind him

Cason - overrated - slow, not that good

Jenkins - stiff hips, not an elite cover guy, not even close

Talib - good cover guy, pothead, in NFL Drug Program because of Combine pot test, doesn't have elite wheels and hence needs to play with safety help like in a Tampa 2

DRC - and they say Porter isn't physical... DRC has the potential to develop into something close to what Porter was his senior year at IU

There is coverage and then there are pretenders. Leodis and the above are pretenders. Porter is the shutdown, and that IS APPARENT 4 weeks into the rookie season. You either can cover or you can't...

    As for the Bills...

    JP Losman

    McCargo

    Leodis...

yeah, only the knee case WR from Wisconsin has panned out as a recent first... oh, yeah, you also spend a top 10 on a ....

    Second Round caliber SAFETY....

    LOL!!!!

Lucking out on UDFA is one thing. Whiffing in ROUND 1 is where the MONEY, TIME and SCOUTING are spent...

TFG, at home with VCR tapes, is better than your FO regarding YOUR DRAFT PICKS.

    Sorry if the truth hurts...

You didnt respond to anything I said. How about Bobby Carpenter? Are you actually saying that Michael Huff was still a better pick than Donte Whitner? And you're ADMITTING that Lee Evans was a good pick?

Now, if these other 5 teams picked crappy CBs, why don't you go and tell those fans all about it? You've said enough on this board.

  11. One thing I've noticed in Trent's press conferences after the past two games: He keeps saying that defenses are doing things that he hadn't seen before on tape, and wasn't expecting. Obviously, with only 2 or 3 games of tape on teams, there will be plenty of things that teams throw out which they haven't done in the past. I don't expect that to change, especially with D coordinators finally getting tape on Edwards to figure out ways to stop him and the Bills offense.

Edwards, the O and the coaching staff have done a great job so far at figuring out what opposing Ds are throwing at them and how they can fix it. I'm guessing Arizona is going to be no different

  12. Now I know there are a lot of Jason Peters haters out there, and for good reason. The dude has given up 4 sacks already (by my count), two more than his overall total from last year. But we all know how well he can play, and how well he did play last year. He's been practicing now for almost a month, and he should (no, HE BETTER) get his act together by the Cards game. '

I'm sure Mr. Parker is calling Jason everyday, asking "WTF are you doing?" Our line overall has been poor, but a lot of it has to do with Peters. Our supposed "road grader" in Dockery is just getting used to playing with his old linemate again. Walker wasn't able to play his natural position through training camp, and while he is in game shape, he is still remembering how to play his RT position (this might be a stretch). But these guys will jell again, and we'll see how it fares.

And on Schobel, correct me if I'm wrong, but I noticed yesterday it was him and not Stroud that was getting a lot of double teams from the Rams. He's obviously not living up to the 7 mil a year contract he's making, but he'll come around.

As much as we wanted to see our team dominate all four quarters of the past three games, this wins are definitely great lessons for this team, and only make our guys buy into Jauron's system that much more. Moreover, 3 straight 4th quarter comebacks only help the players on the sideline, when this happens again. They've been in the position before, and they have the chance to say "Remember what we did in Sept." We cannot discount the fact that they are a young team, and wins like this will only help them down the road.

  13. Yeah just like you were right about Bobby Carpenter? Just like you were right about Michael Huff? Thought so.

So if you are harassing bills fans, are you doing the same to the five other teams that drafted corners before Tracy Porter?

    AZ-Cromartie

    TB-Talib

    Dallas-Michael Jenkins

    SD-Antoine Cason

    KC-Brandon Flowers

They were all soooooooooo stupid to draft these guys ahead of Porter. Looks like you can spend some time on those draft boards and harass those fan bases. I'm sure they'll love it. And you didn't seem to respond anymore once Lori gave you the proverbial smackdown. Nice job!

  14. "If he did buy the Bills, it would be bittersweet. We would know that the team's future in Buffalo would be on solid ground, but we'd also know that we would never be active in free agency/retaining players ever again. But, IF he did buy the team, we have no idea that he'd be a cheapskate or not. Hey, you never know?"

Im not sure what team you guys are a fan of...but the team i root fo has NEVER been able to keep players or be active in free agency...why would more of the same be earthshattering all of a sudden?!

If you read my entire post I said "I'm sure we'll hear the same moaning and groaning" about not being able to be competitive - a la Ralph, Galisano, and John Regis. Any guy that buys this team will say the same thing, Jacobs or not. But Jacobs in Boston makes all three look like Jerry Jones. That being said, ANYWAY, ANYHOW, we need to keep this team in Buffalo, even if it means another tight fisted owner.
