  1. there's also a huge difference between the NFL and the NHL. An NHL team struggles to even make a profit, with the NFL its just a question of how much profit you want to have.

Yea but not in Boston. It is the 6th largest market, and they consistently are in the bottom of the league in attendance (I think I saw the numbers like 12-13,000). Even with poor attendance and fan apathy, Jacob's Bruins are in the top ten revenue every year. Jacobs doesnt even have to try in Boston (which he obviously doesn't), and he still makes money. Can't necessarily say the same in Buffalo. Damn these big market teams!

  2. I can see where Ray Finkle is coming from. The Bruins used to be THE team in Boston all those years back with Bobby Or. Red Sox were terrible, nobody cared about the Pats* until they won a Superbowl (always #4 team there), and they hated the Celtics cuz they had, uh oh, Black Players! Racist bastards...

Nobody cares about the Bruins anymore in Boston because Jacobs has never much cared about the team. Obviously, there are other factors: 1.) Boston is the worst bandwagon city in all of sports, and 2.) all three other major teams winning championships in the past 5 years has drowned any publicity the Bruins may get.

Now Jacobs has made some strides in recent years, but it is probably too late for the people of Boston to ever forget his 35 years of terrible management. He is consistently voted one of the worst owners in all of sports (I guess there is one way Buffalo's been consistently saying FU to Boston!) Him getting a fresh start may be best for both Bruins fans and himself. Like any owner, I'm sure he's learned from past mistakes, but at the same time views himself as a "savior" of his team, and that fans should just be happy they have somebody like him to run a team. Call it a owner/rich person ego trip.

If he did buy the Bills, it would be bittersweet. We would know that the team's future in Buffalo would be on solid ground, but we'd also know that we would never be active in free agency/retaining players ever again. But, IF he did buy the team, we have no idea that he'd be a cheapskate or not. Hey, you never know?

But, one thing to add is that any owner who buys the bills will be saddled with a ridiculously high debt, and I'm almost positive we'll hear the same moaning and groaning about how high the cost of running a team in this city will be.

That being said, anyway, anyhow we can keep this team in this city is probably a good thing.

  3. (supposed to say "ahead of ourselves")

I have been on a team like this, and all we did was fall one game short of winning everything. Talent wise we had no business being there, but we played/lived as team. Best team I have ever been on, ever. I got that same feeling being around the Bills for 2 hours on Sunday. These guys are focused: it was almost like they couldn't wait to tell me what they did right/wrong, and who blocked for who, and who the unsung guy was, etc. They have fun with each other, and are perhaps the most positive group of people I have had the pleasure of being around in years.

So you were on a professional football team before? Just kidding guy, you just came off a little pompous with a line like that. I am very happy though that there are plenty of fans out there that are showing so much excitement and enthusiasm for this team. It's great, especially since I haven't seen such in a loooooooong time. But as today's injury to Roscoe shows, anything can happen in the next 14 weeks. One of those two sack/fumbles JP let up on Edwards on Sunday could have easily been a knockout blow, a la Tom Brady. We just don't know what will happen. I am loving every minute of the past 3 weeks, but at the same time I am waiting for the floor to fall out. Three wins doesn't guarantee us anything, other than the fact that we'll be drafting no higher than #3 next year!

And what do you mean "one statement and I could dispel all Marshawn" stuff? Was he there, and did he say anything to you? What? I'm lost...

  4. I hate this injuries that come out of nowhere. I don't recall seeing Roscoe get hurt, nor did I see anything reported about him having any sort of injury and suddenly the guy is going to miss extended time - WTF?

Just like the Crowell injury - guy goes from practicing and being the starter for the opener to needing minor surgery to being on IR within a few hours and as a fan you're wondering what you missed (I know Angelo's situation is a different thing and I'm not implying that Roscoe's injury is the same scenario).

I'm excited to see Leodis and Hardy, but Roscoe just has that special ability to make a play when needed - that's what we're going to miss.

Woah buddy, nobody says he's been put on IR. He's not lost for the season. Obviously, it sucks to lose any player, but this next stretch of games is probably the best time to lose the kid, IMO. With St Louis, Arizona, a BYE and San Diego, Miami and the NYJ, we could expect him back for New England (if everything goes to plan).

We saw last week what a difference it can make without Roscoe's great returns. Last year, this would have been another terrible loss to our doomed season, but because of the 2008 draft, McKelvin and Hardy are now going to be asked to step up. Chris Brown also said Justin Jenkins is going to take over some of those slot plays, which is also good to finally see if this kid can do anything when it counts. From what I remember, he's six foot and lightning fast - it can't hurt to have another big body out there. Hardy should get some more plays too of course.

It sucks, but at least he's going to come back. What's more, at least its not an injury that is going to affect his speed (although it might affect his catching ability). We'll be alright.

  5. You, my friend, are so wrong it is sad. Freedom is what the colonists were after and that is what we have here. The Hands off approach the republicans employ is far better than the over taxed, over programed, borderline socialist strategy of the left. I like getting more money back each year and I like my borders are safe I like that I do well because I get up and go to work every day. Corrupt, thats funny. Wild Bill Clinton was seriously corrupt. Do know who was a huge backer of the KKK in the 40's,50's and 60's? the Democrats. Al Gores father was a Klansmen. You are nothing more than a sore loser who is watching as your selfish agenda to get a Lib/Dem Prez elected goes up in smoke. Much like the Dope that Obama has openly admitted using. I know what is being done and not only do I like it , but I live very comfortably in it. Safe and secure and affluent in America. Sorry you are so unAmerican.I do not feel guilty about how well i live in this country, why should you. Try putting the needs of this country before your own. realize that you don't have to believe everything you hear from the drive-by media! God bless America. P.S. Who is our king?

The things you say in this post are completely ridiculous. I grew up in a Republican household, went to school in Washington, and realized that both parties were pretty much full of themselves. I consider myself moderate in almost every sense, though I probably still lean a little to the right. One thing I do know is that this past administration is probably the worst one in the history of the United States. Hands off approach? Hands off when were talking about illegal wiretapping? Hands-off when the Justice Department hires only those whose beliefs are in the same line as the Republican Party (one of the guys that lost out on a job, by the way, was a Buffalo Attorney with 20 years of experience whose wife was the Erie County Dem Chairwoman, compared to a 3 year Bush partisan). Hands-off to the administration avoiding PUBLIC GOVERNMENT EMAIL that belongs to the PUBLIC and instead using a RNC email server? Hands-off to not giving $7B to people that cant afford heath care and giving $700B to wall street? I can go on and on about this crap, but I wont because this is a BUFFALO BILLS thread not politics. Politics makes sane people go insane.

First, I'd like to refute the statements you said above in your post. Our borders are not safe. I think you can blame both parties for that. Neither one wanted to come to ANY compromise on immigration policy, and now we'll leave it alone for another 10 years while 3 million illegals come into our country undocumented every year. How safe is that? Obviously I believe the Clinton white house was pretty corrupt too, but the Bush white house is unrivaled.

Dems as KKK backers? This is pretty funny. If you knew anything about history buddy, you'd know that as the two parties became more and more ideological based, all the southern democrats ran to the REPUBLICAN party because they hated the liberals in the Democratic Party. Yeah, the Dems may have the history when it came to the KKK and anti-civil rights, but all those bastards ended up in the Republican party. Think Strom Thurmond. Al Gore's dad as a KKK member? Buddy, this is just laughable. Do you know any history whatsoever? At all? I hate Al Gore as a narcissistic jerk as much as the next guy, but his father was one of only THREE Confederate Democratic Senators who didn't sign the Southern Manifesto. Do you even know what that document is? Did you even go to school? Obama drug using? Are you serious about this too? Georgie Bush had a serious coke addiction. Obama was man enough to admit it, because I think most Americans do not care about this issue anymore.

The reason why I stopped believing (or believed at all, for that matter) in the party of my parents is because the Republican Party has been hijacked by neocons and religious fanatical Christians. The neocons have ruined everything about the party - a party that used to be about fiscal conservatism is now spending more freely that FDR. I think it was Pat Buchanan that once said that neocons were former communists back in the day. The religious right has turned the party into its champion for things that don't belong in the government sphere, like flag burning, an anti-gay agenda, and death to anyone who doesn't believe in Jesus. In my opinion, the Religious Right is a bigger threat to this country than radical Islam any day of the week.

I don't know who I'm going to vote for in September. I haven't decided yet. But I do know that people like you spitting out very stupid, immature, and sophomoric statements isn't going to help McCain get elected.

  6. Trent Edwards said in a post-game interview that the Raiders were attacking all day and that the offense hadn't prepared for that so they were thrown off. Then the Raiders stopped attacking in the 4th, allowinfg the Bills to execute the plan they had developed all week.

Yea so youre saying they did stop blitzing in the 4th right? That's what I remember. They obviously did blitz some, as I mentioned on the Roscoe TD and as somebody said on a few Marshawn runs. But I remember them for the most part playing prevent, having a nickel and a dime back in, and giving our receivers serious cushion a the line to allow Trent to throw the ball at will.

  7. I know Easterbrook is from Buffalo and I love reading the guy's stories. But I noticed something he wrote about the Bills. Its in the Kiffin sent to detention section:

But Kiffin doesn't call defensive signals. Rob Ryan does, and it was Ryan who called too many blitzes in the fourth quarter, practically sending the Buffalo Budgies an engraved invitation to stage a comeback. Buffalo gained 152 yards on its first 10 possessions and 221 yards on its final three possessions.

Anybody else notice this? From what I recall in the game, the raiders blitzed the hell out of us for three quarters and then all but stopped in the forth (save for a few plays, like the Roscoe TD where we countered their blitz). I know I've read all over the Buffalo News this week that the Raiders supposedly lost because Ryan DID NOT blitz buffalo in the 4th enough and they played too much prevent D, which we all know never works.

I can't find any Buffalo News articles that back this statement up, but I did find an Oakland paper that talks about changing from man to man to Prevent.

    What do you guys think?

  8. Does anybody know (or think) that there might be a chance that the Toronto game would open the dome? I would feel a lot more comfortable about the game if they at least kept the weather as close to Orchard Park as possible. I mean, Canadians are Canadians after all, and they know cold just like us. I am assuming it is Rogers has the final say. But does anyone remember the preseason game? I am pretty sure I read all over that it was Jauron's decision to close the dome to prepare the team for the same environment come December. You think he might have a say for the Miami game?

  9. Somebody above mentioned that we should raise prices for tickets - if we can support the sabres than we can support the bills too. I feel everybody that complains about the high prices already, but we do have the lowest prices in the league. The Pats are the highest ($117) and the Bills are the lowest with $51. The thing is though, if the Bills raised every game ticket price about 10 or 20 bucks (on average), we would be in the middle of the pack. Think about it - 8 games (with preseason) with a ticket raise of anywhere between 80 to a 160 bucks. I know how bad that might sound, and it screws over those fans that spend every once of savings on season tickets. But if you want to be with the Big Boys in the Biggest League there is, you gotta shell out the bucks. It really is the only way we can think (in my opinion) of keeping this team without corporate support.

Tampa Bay this year is the second highest ticket in the league at 90 a game. Obviously, Tampa and Buffalo are both cities going in completely different directions (not to mention corporate influence) but they are still considered a small market team. I believe they also have a waiting list, and you can't really say they have a die hard fanbase like the bills (Giants playoff game last year anyone? Giants fans filled that stadium).

And the Giants (who historically have had the same families passing seats down from generation to generation) now have to pay Personal Seat Licenses, when their seats are anything but personal! They have to split them with Jets fans! Obviously the Giants play in New York, and those seats will go no matter what, but they are losing out on their blue collar fan base that had gone to games for 40 years. Imagine having to pay $30,000 (or more) to sit in a seat you have sat in for 40 years, plus pay for every game ticket. So honey, do pay for Suzie's college this year or pay for Giants season tickets?

I personally would take a 200 dollar hit a year if I knew the Bills could say. I know a lot of people would disagree. But I would frankly cut off my leg to see this team win a Super Bowl.

Do you guys agree or disagree? The one hole in my argument I can see is IF the influx of 10-20 bucks a seat would do any good WITHOUT solid corporate support. Dallas is selling their suites at 250,000 a pop, while Buffalo is lucky to get 8-10,000. It seems like Dallas and Washington and New York could make more money than the bills in one year on 200 corporate suites alone compared to 10 years of 71,000 paying fans.

  10. There was an article in the Buffalo News last weekend about Josh's blocking skills. He said that him and Evans love to block, and Evans joked that they spend more time in practice on blocking than running routes. Josh said in the article that he knows if he crosses the middle and isn't looking, a DB won't hesitate to take his head off. So he feels that if he gets physical first, it will throw the DB off/make him angry/take him off his game and will work to his advantage. It has obviously worked the past three weeks.

I have honestly never heard this type of attitude displayed by a WR. A guy that wants to block? No way. What a thought.

  11. Thats what was so weird for me, I really NEVER doubted we were winning that game, even after the TD and old fool Criqui saying thats game!!!

    Different team this year

    6

Did criqui really say game over? I must have missed that. Was that after the higgins TD? There was still 6 and a half mins left in the game. He really is a Buffalo traitor.

  12. I think this whole notion of drafting Edwards in the 2nd round is silly by the Raiders. Granted, some draft prognisticators said Edwards could have been a late first or early second rounder, there were still 5 quarterbacks ahead of Edwards (Russell, Quinn, Kolb, Beck, Stanton). I still understand that they might have had a keen eye on Edwards because he's from the area, but this is still splitting hairs, and hindsight is always 20/20.

Edwards in Oakland - come on. I love Trent Edwards and I hope he's going to be a great Pro Bowl caliber QB in this league, but he would have sucked. The reason why Edwards has been good so far in Buffalo is because of the way we have developed him (crazy thing, right?). We've got an O line that can pass protect with the best of them, and we didn't push him for greatness last year. Instead, we let him grow at an acceptable pace. If he played in Oakland, he would have been toast before he even started a game. With that O Line, trent would have been sacked on every other play, just like at Stanford, and hurt himself way to many times before he would have ever gotten a chance. Thank GOD we drafted the kid!

Another thing too, when Russell was coming out, I thought it was going to be a pretty stupid pick to draft him in the top ten. Sorry, I'm no "TFG" jerk with a website that "failed," so you're just going to have to take my word, like it or not. I've always thought it was pretty dumb to pick a QB #1 or #2 overall, especially these days when you have to give out 60 mil (20 guaranteed) to a guy that's gonna have to sit a year or two and not actually produce until year 3 or 4 (at which point you have to give him another rediculous contract off of 1 or 2 years of work). It's silly. I figured him as a huge quarterback with freak skills that probably wouldn't make it on the next level. But the thing is, they drafted him and now they have to support that pick.

That's what I don't understand with Kiffin. You go out and say "If we didnt draft Russell we would have drafted Edwards." Really? So what does that say to your confidence in your QB after 2 games? I don't like you? Obviously this is a shot against Davis. I know everybody says Russell sucks right now (me included), but it still has been only 2 games. He's only thrown the ball only 40 times in 2 games, and only completing 53% of his passes, but the kid has still thrown 2 TDs and zero picks for a 84.9 QB rating. As I said, I don't think he will pan out (especially in Oakland with continuous turmoil, and another 2-3 coaches and 5 new coordinators the next few years) but you still gotta give the guy a chance. We have no idea how this season (or next) will turn out. Russell could go on an get the system this year or next and make Edwards look second rate in comparison (HE BETTER NOT!). But, we literally have no idea.

This is why I question the way Kiffin is coaching. He knew going in what Al Davis ran the Raiders, and now is so befuddled at the way he is being treated. You were hired when you were 31 years old, and you didn't think Davis would try to turn you into a puppet? It's the way it works over there, Davis' way or the highway. Of course you will have little say in personell, of course you can't hire/fire your assnt coaches.

He obviously saw this job as a stepping stone to greater things. Okay, I get that. I thought he probably was a good coach with a good future in this league, but the past two weeks have changed my view on the guy. Him speaking out against Davis the way he is makes him look like an impetulent player, not an NFL coach. When you signed up for the job, you understood that it comes with all the weight, scrutiny, and criticism. Most NFL coaches get that, and if they don't they gone pretty quick (see Mike Mularkey). He needs to act like a coach, and take it gracefully (wrong word, more like a man) until he gets fired. He's not doing himself any favors by snapping back at Davis. Why would anyone want to hire a guy that speaks out against his employer, even if it is Davis? He has the entire United States and the sports media on his side championing his case; he doesn't need to put his two cents in, it just makes him look bad. I read an espn blog the other day (looking for the link right now) that said basically this point.

    GO BILLS!

  13. Who is "The Swami?"

You only hate the third person when the third person really is... what the name states...

I normally don't jump into these pissing contests, but this is one where the line needs to be drawn. Please see Raimius' comments above to show that you are no draft genius. No one else on this board claims to be a draft guru or know all the answers. None of us watch hours upon hours of tape of prospects, or sit in the interview rooms with these guys. Neither did you. You're not even in the media (yes I know, these guys do an even crappier job of projecting prospects than fan posters). You spend your time championing these guys to make your draft projections from 3 years ago look good. You made some third-rate website that "failed." I wonder why it failed. Maybe we should ask carpenter and lendale white. And your defense of how "I had Leinart below Cutler" was pretty weak. Please stop the self-aggrandizing, its getting old....

  14. Amazingly enough, the site failed. I had by far the most accurate Draft assessments each year 04-06 and "fans" just hated hearing how their FO FUed each year. The hate I got for panning Gallery the night he was Drafted was worthy of a Smithsonian booth on the intelligence of football fans. My actual Raiders grade that year included a big swipe for Jake Grove being a dirty player and Stu Schwiegert being a drunk. Them Raider fans love TFG... And yes, I did make a few errors too - recommended a few injury and head cases, panned Lofa Tatupu, Trent Cole, Robert Geathers - those were the three biggest errors. On the big issues, I got those right every year, and "fans" who didn't want to hear that Youboty wasn't very good or trading up for McCargo in a deep Draft was a mistake, well... they hated me and never came back.

You can search for "TFG's NFL Draft" and find some evidence it existed, but your best evidence is all the nonsense about King and Justin that appears each time I show up here with a point for Bills fans.

For the record, two other second day "Recs" in 05 besides Justin and King were Darren Sproles and Tyjuan Hagler.

Looks like you made GREAT picks on matt leinart and michael huff!

  15. I read in the Buffalo News that we are wearing the 1960s throwbacks for the Oakland game. Obviously this is superstition and will play no role in how the game plays out, but does anyone know what our record is when we play in our throwbacks. I remember last year reading in the paper that we had a pretty bad record in them - one of those being the Dallas game last year. I don't want any curses for a game we should be winning!
