Man, I can’t imagine what he could do w a TE who gets coverages to leave a safety down and a QB with an arm like Allen or Maholmes, can you?

I don't know who Maholmes is. Perhaps you're referring to Mahomes. Regardless, I think Allen has more pure talent than him so yes, I do imagine how Hill would do here.

Jason Kelce is complaining about how Jordan Phillips charged offside when the Eagles were lined up for a tush-push play.  I think this is exactly backwards.  I think all teams should do what Phillips did, whenever the Eagles line up for that play from close to the goal line.  ALL the defenders should charge offside as soon as the Eagles line up, and not just a little love tap, either.  If possible they should put a hand on Hurts as well, just letting the Eagles know that this play of theirs is putting their QB at risk.  Of course there will be a half the distance penalty.  Big deal.  So they cut the distance in half, and if the Eagles line up again in that formation, the defense immediately charges ahead, offside, again pushing through as violently as possible.  And the defense should keep on doing it.  Half the distance, half the distance, half the distance.  Who cares?

Trying to steal Brad Riter's thunder?

  3. I had a bit of a different approach to overtime. The loser of the coin toss picks a yard line. The winner then chooses to take the ball from that point or have the other team start from the corresponding yard line on their end of the field. No kick-off. No ties. First score wins.

The equilibrium point would be different for different teams based on which side of the ball they felt stronger about.

Josh is still right there with Mahomes and one of the best players in the league.  Dorsey ruined him for half a season, but Brady has brought him back.  He is a generational talent and will hold multiple NFL records when his career is done.

I have no doubt Josh Allen will hoist a SB trophy at some point in his career.

Josh is better than Mahomes. I'm sure I'll get called a homer for that but you give Allen one year of Andy Reid designing plays for him with receivers running wide open on every play, he'd break every QB record in the books.

It really can't be overstated how much of a coaching disadvantage Josh Allen has had in his career. Daboll and Dorsey aren't exactly offensive geniuses. And more importantly, he's had to deal with his idiot head coach constantly crapping all over himself at the ends of close games.

His defense is predicated on making a team take the short stuff all game in hopes they eventually make a mistake.  Odds say that a mistake will happen.  The problem shows itself in the playoffs because elite QBs dont make many mistakes.  It shows itself at the end of games because its based on mistakes throughout the course of a game and not just in an individual drive.

It works when the offense is blowing the other team out.  Not so much when its a close game as you can see in McDs record.  It only takes one mistake free drive in a close game.

Even look at the playoffs.  Colts game... we won because they turned the ball over after marching the entire field.  If not for that mistake its a loss.  Ravens game... we won because Lamar turned the ball over in the endzone and it became a pick 6 then Lamar was knocked out of the game.

This defense isn't made to make plays.  It's made to take advantage of the other team making a mistake.  It's covered up by one of two things... our offense is insane and blowing the other team out or the other team makes a mistake and turns the ball over.  Lastly, the other team is just playing like crap and dropping wide open passes.  Good teams sit in the big zone holes and complete easy passes all game long.  A year or two ago that was ok because our team could fly to the ball and gang tackle.  Now they are old and slow and half the time can't tackle either.

The D did a great job against Philly in the first half.  Philly made adjustments in the second half and McD didn't.  Par for the course.

Not sure I agree with this. They were covering up the short passes just fine up until late in the game. Orlovsky makes a valid point here.

The biggest adjustment Philly made in the second half was getting those stretch runs working. That opened up the deeper shots to Smith.

  6. If I had to guess, I think that catch and run by tyreek hill in the 13 seconds game (right before the final Davis TD) has given McDoormat PTSD. Ever since then he is so terrified of giving up a long TD that he concedes yards at the ends of close games to the point where he's willing to give up a field goal attempt and take his chances. Granted, yesterday's kick was borderline miraculous, but it still shouldn't have gotten to that point.

No, think you’re missing my point. There are times when he needs to be more aggressive because he can hear all the criticism but there are times where this has led to him making bad decisions. He doesn’t have an internal compass on when and where to pick the correct spots on being aggressive. I know the Eagles made a 59 miracle fg. But without knowing that maybe it wasn’t a great idea to potentially give the Eagles good field position on a 50/50 kick that doesn’t really change the outcome of the game. By all means he should have been aggressive with 20 seconds and if needed a 60 harder then take it. In a weird way it’s like he doesn’t trust his offense still and doesn’t want empty possessions. Also if you keep playing good defense you make them punt get a first down or two and get in better range for a fg or potential touchdown.

I see your point. And it does make sense to a certain extent. But a 48 yard field goal attempt for Bass..you have to think that's almost automatic even with the rain.

The result of the play was a backbreaker but not the decision, imo.

This would be good landing spot for Mcdermott.  Carolina is dumpster fire that Bills were when Mcdermott took over.  He’s a good ‘get you out of the basement’ guy.

No he's not. The Bills were 7-9 the year before he took over, not a basement-dweller. Let's not re-write history here.

We have too many of those guys on the roster to ever win a championship.  If we’re being honest, our QB is included in that group but is too talented to ever give up on.

First part, agreed. But give Allen a competent coach and we've probably already won a super bowl. I can't see how you can include him in that conversation. How many times has he left the field after giving the team a lead in the final minute only to have his idiot coach and his soft defense give it right back?

Let's be honest...that's what McDermott is.

All the coaches we've criticized never had the talent McDermott has.

Put Allen on the Mike Mularkey 2004 Bills - that team possibly wins the Super Bowl. Put Allen on any Jauron teams that went 7-9 every year with Losman/Edwards - those teams make the playoffs annually. Doug Marrone's 2014 Bills that went 9-7 with a lights-out defense and Kyle Orton - that team goes deep into the playoffs. Rex Ryan took Mark Freaking Sanchez to the AFC Championship twice. What does he do with Allen?

Why does this guy continue to get credit for turning the team around when it's clearly a case of him simply getting a HOF QB by chance? How many games does his defense have to blow? How many more stupid timeouts? How many more?

This is so patently obvious to anyone who doesn't have blinders on. People make it look like McDermott inherited an expansion team.

They were 7-9 the year before he took over. He won a couple more games than Rex with a creampuff schedule and that team was actually worse than the team before it by many metrics. They proceeded to blow up the roster and rebuild and then lucked into a dynamo at QB.

McDermott would be back in Carolina coaching defensive backs if it wasn't for Allen.

  11. Anyone have any advice on the ideal place to watch a game while staying in Manhattan now that McFadden's closed? Heading out there in a few weeks.

I've read the Penn 6 is the new spot but there are other options as well. Kelly's? Redds? Anyone here been to these places?
