Hamilton repoting Evans wide open all game...

Edwards has thrown for two or more TDs in a 2008 game exactly zero times this year. At no point in the season or his career would he have carved up those opportunities. Maybe he will get better but he sucked last year, he sucked earlier this year and he sucks now. I detect a trend but I could be wrong.

pooh pooh on you.

When the Bills were 4-0...I posted here that I would rather have Edwards than Cutler...Not because I thought Edwards was more skilled than Cutler...Rather it was because I THOUGHT Edwards was the smarter, more poised, and more accurate QB...I was wrong...I admit it...

I'd rather have Cutler now no question...And missing on a QB of that calibre hurts...It really does...I still think Trent can snap out of this...growing pains and all...But Cutler is the better Pro and probably will be for the rest of their careers...

To me it's not even a matter of which will be the better QB.

To me the bigger issue then was...just take Cutler because a QB like that has far more value.

SanDiego took Eli even though they had Breese and it worked out beautifully.

There is no law that says you cannot make a trade downline.

Trades happen all the time.

I hope by now these people that were so boldly saying how correct it was for the Bills to take Whitner now see how mistaken they were.

Largely and not coincidentally they were they same fans that bitterly defended Losman.

In his 3rd year Whitner has all of 2 career picks.

I hope those people are starting to realize that they know next to nothing.

NOTHING!

they could have got Haloit Ngata who has 2 picks as a DT this year which equals Whitners career. Ngata is like 380 and a run stuffing beast... thats the kinda player u take 9th, not a no name safety. and ya, Trent is as dead as his head coach.. im pretty sure both Trent and Dick like boys

Unfortunately, open on TV and open from the press box (Hamilton is a tool and has no clue, stick to hockey fat boy) dosn't mean open from the eyes of the guy standing behind the line. If you drop 8 into coverage and have 2 WRs and a TE (who sucks and no one is afraid of) that means no one is open. It's been four weeks in a row with the same defensive game plan. Drop 8 back to cover.

And why is it working? Simple: this team does not have a second WR that threatens anyone and I'll say it for what seems like the 15th year in a row, they lack a TE and need to draft one that can stretch defenses and keep them honest. Royal sucks, he should be cut now.

So, explain to me then what "open" means? Guys look open in zone coverage but with 8 defenders, "open" tends to close real quick. I'm not saying there weren't times Evans was open, but he wasn't open constantly.

And let's talk a little game planning here from the so-called savior, Turk Schonert. The last 4 games he's faced the same defensive scheme. And what's been the solution? Where has the offense adjusted? Lining up your QB at WR and your RB at QB in the so-called "wildcat"? Really, that's the best he's got? That really perplexes the defense. I really bet the Browns thought Lynch or Jackson was going to pass from that formation right?

Draft time kids, draft time. This team has major holes. They need a center badly, an outside LB, a CB, a TE, and maybe most importantly, they need to cut Denney and Kelsay and start over at that position.

STOP MAKING EXCUSES; especially for night! Trent sucked; BOTTOM LINE! That game we actually had a commentator Jaws and more camera views that showed the WHOLE field and you could see open WRs and Trent looking at them but holding the ball. Some who sit in the stands or watched these camera shots had complained the previous games about Hardy, Evan, etc being open and Trent just not finding them. I use to think it was just as simple as us having Lee and no one else (always felt that pass blocking more than not has been sound) but that is not the case. Royal has been getting open this year and besides a few drops and a fumble really hasn't played as bad as some think. I think we have a deep receiving corp; we just don't have a QB to consistently get them the ball. Maybe and hopefully Trent can develop but the targets are not the blame.

He was shellshocked last night. The first interception was a lucky play by the defense and could have haoppened to any QB. The second interception looked like it was fairly accurate with a good play by the defense. The third pick was another good defensive play. After that Trent was scared to throw another and his confidence was shot. I could see it and feel it. He can bounce back from this....

ZONAB makes a very good point - "open" from the press box doesn't necessarily translate down to the field. Evans did appear open on the TV coverage feed a few times, but it's unclear to us whether the throwing lanes, etc. were available to take advantage of those situations. We can't see what Trent sees, which is what Jauron was trying to say post-game. (Did I just defend Jauron? Yikes.)

However, the basic point is that when the QB is delivering the ball - particularly against a "Tampa Two" or similar coverage - the receiver will rarely appear "open." In fact, if the receiver appears "open" when before the ball is delivered, there's a good chance that the throw will be late. The throw, as our beloved Pillsbury doughboy Jaworski accurately pointed out, must be delivered before the receiver breaks into the "open" area of the field. Thus, the QB must trust his arm, his instinct, and his receivers to be in the right place.

At this point, Trent is overthinking everything and trusting nothing, and against zone coverage that is a recipe for a disaster. No confidence + 7-8 men in coverage = trip to pick city.

Evans was open all game. Stevie Johnson was open all game. So was Parrish. Just like EVERY OTHER game in this losing streak, there were plenty of plays to be made downfield, but the Bills got terrible quarterbacking.

Anyone at the game who had the full view of the field will tell you... guys - especially Lee - were wide open all game, Trent was terrified of throwing downfield and it cost the team another win.

Period. Quit making excuses for Trent, JP would have gotten KILLED for the same performance. Trent was disgustingly awful, and has been the primary reason for the 0-4 slump. Good quarterbacking and the Bills are 3-1 over that stretch, 2-2 at the least.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. Guys were wide open all game. There were plenty of plays to be made. Just like every other game during the four game skid. Trent has been awful for a month now, and it has cost the team dearly.

Is he the primary reason for all four losses? By no means. But he's the common thread. He's been terrible for a month, been outplayed by guys like Matt Cassell and Brady Quinn, and has been the 2nd best QB on the field four games running which - not coincidentally - the Bills have lost.

There were some key points in that game, when open meant wide open, and Trent was apparently the only person in the stadium that didn't see it. It wasn't a play after play thing with Evans just running around uncovered, but there were some opportunities that could have resulted in game changing plays with what would have been relatively easy throws to make that Edwards just plain missed. Either he stopped looking downfield altogether, or just didn't have the stones to pull the trigger, but from any seat in the house, he missed some opportunities with WIDE OPEN recievers.
