Don't forget Rice's agent brokered this deal. He wanted to play with a coach he has a releationship with (Holmgren) and he wanted to go to a contender. The Bills do not qualify under either point. It was probably a kind gesture by Seattle since it would be embarrassing for Rice to get his outright release.
