What the Bills should do before Draft Day

The most likely scenario is the first seven picks go as expected (Bush, Leinart, Williams, Ferguson, Hawk, Young, Davis). That would leave the Bills in a position to draft about 7-8 guys of similar caliber.

In a situation like this, it is always best to trade down for two reasons:

1) Pick up additional draft pick(s) without losing quality

2) Later first-round pick = cheaper. #8 overall commands a big salary.

What the Bills should do:

Make the best pre-draft day deal possible with teams that want a QB (Minnesota maybe?). The deal: if Brick and Hawk are off the board (probable) and Cutler and/or Young is still there, the trade gets executed; if by some miracle Hawk or Brick fall (b/c Cutler and Young were taken), the Bills select them and there`s no deal.

This would ensure the Bills get value in their draft without giving up the dream of a stud falling. The (Vikes) would like the deal because the would have the knowledge that a deal is guaranteed if their franchise QB is still there, but there wouldn`t be a deal if their QB was gone.

Logical for both sides. I`m a genius! <_<

It's great from Buffalo's standpoint, but don't see it as an advantage to another team. As the draft is played out, all of sudden, they (other team/trade partner) may be able to get a better deal trading up to lets say # 6 as whomever #6 was targeting gets taken. So they are willing to trade down and take less in return. Or the opposite. Lets assume both Young and Cutler are available at #8. Whomever the Bills trade partner was, could have instead then only needed to trade up to #9 or maybe even #10 and given up less in return to only have to move up to say #10. Or something else happens totally unexpectedly that makes the Bills want to stay at #8, but now are locked into a trade.

So from perspective of other team, I doubt anyone would ever make the trade ahead. The Bills may talk with people and agree on deals, but don't see advantages in making even tentative deals prior to draft as too much can change.

Having some deals on the table and talked through as possibilities makes sense so negotiating isn't at the last minute. Having an official conditional deal locked in seems a little hard to do before Draft Day. Anything to get the most value from this draft, and if a Cutler or Young-happy team will give us more value, I love trading down, and talking through the possibility before draft day as well.

Unfortunately Huff, Justice, Ngata and Bunkley will be off the board by the 17th pick which automatically would make the Bill's draft a complete disaster. The only way I could stomach a trade down was if the Vikes gave us a 2nd AND a 3rd. The talent of the first round drops way off around pick 14 or 15.
