I wouldn't have even watched it if HBO wasn't running it and I couldn't sleep, but when I did, WOW! I expected a lame story and some good but predicatable action. The action was good and not totally predicatable, but the story was great. It went deeply into the culture of the Predators and gave a very plausible theory for the pyramids on Earth. I rented it with a bunch of friends 15 years ago, after a wedding. It may well be the best "creature feature" ever made. The acting is well done, especially Michael Gross and Reba McEntyre as the husband/wife gun nuts. I realized that Reba could more than hold her own in a movie. The giant tunneling worms are original as far as monsters go. The whole movie is effective and even believable in a certain way. Very well done. The concept of the "pretty ugly girl" was well done. Basically the school nerd is this ugly girl who is ugly because she wears overalls, a hat, and glasses - and by dressing like a normal teenage girl and leaving the glasses off, she's suddenly a ten. Pygmalion 1 is the king of Cyprus who fell in love with a statue of his own making, kissed the ivory statue, and thought the kisses were returned. Besides all this, he also draped it with robes, put rings upon its fingers, and a necklace around her neck. PG-13 tale starring Ron Perlman - monster-like, son-of-devil turns out to be hero - decent effects, heartwarming story. Local tv guide gave it 3 1/2 stars; YMMV. Everyone writing about this movie seems to hate it and of course, there's the Affleck Factor, so I was ready to write this one off going in. I think the movie rocks. Michael Clarke Duncan was a great choice for The Kingpin and Affleck wasn't too shabby. Farrell nearly steals the film as Bullseye. Jennifer Garner is always good eye candy. Never, ever thought I'd like it, but I laughed my ass off at the dryness of it, and by the time Lafawnda showed up, I was laughing so hard I think I peed myself a little bit.
