Obviously we need immigrants who are willing to work hard at providing the services our families need.

And this kind of nursing home/home care job is, unfortunately, one that we really can't seem to find native-born citizens to do.

Yes, banning legal and illegal immigration will drive up wages, and maybe some native Americans will apply, and maybe some will do a good job for a much higher wage. And then we'll all pay a lot more for old age care.

How do you support minimum wage laws when you take this stance?  Immigrants won't drive up labor costs equally?  Or is that why you want them to remain "illegal", so you can pay them under the table?

Well, for one I don't support minimum wage laws.

I don't want illegal immigration, but I do want substantially more renewable work visas.

That actually squares up, but I differ with you because I think we have the citizens that will do this work.  I haven't just washed my hands and assumed half the nation is lost forever like you have.

I don’t know where you think a million extra new care givers are going to come from. We need expanded legal immigration to care for our elderly or else who will be wiping the baby boomers a_ses? That’s a reality America is not prepared for.

The United States is facing a larger population of adults over the age of 65 than ever before, primarily made up of baby boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964). This demographic group grew rapidly, exploding from 41 million people in 2011 to 71 million in 2019 — a massive 73% increase. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates this number will keep rising, projecting it will reach 82 million by 2030.

Seven out of 10 of these Americans aged 65+ will eventually need long-term care. Therefore, by 2030, the demand for home health care is anticipated to grow by 46% with more than 1 million new home care jobs needing to be filled.

Do you think every immigrant is illegal? We need expanded legal immigration.

The ones who will work for cheap are illegal.

The ones at the home health care agencies are expensive. But, they're there for the hiring.

Sure, anyone - citizen or illegal, working on their own will be cheaper. We ended up using agency care givers. What I do know is that the retention rate for workers in the field is low. The agency isn’t paying them much. Walmart might pay better. We experienced constant turnover of Americans willing to care for our low maintenance father. Anyone with basic job skills are looking for other work opportunities. Hence, immigrant women may be more willing to do this type of work. If your loved one needs care, you aren’t asking what their immigration status is.
