Draconator Posted Saturday at 02:49 AM Posted Saturday at 02:49 AM Let's say a band decided to do a special tribute show, where they did The Cars first two albums (Cars and Candy-O) in their entirety, would you go to see it? Quote
Buffalo716 Posted Saturday at 03:41 AM Posted Saturday at 03:41 AM I'm sure there's people in Buffalo who would enjoy that I'm on the road a bunch but when I'm home I try to catch shows Quote
US Egg Posted Saturday at 04:07 AM Posted Saturday at 04:07 AM Will Paulina Porizkova be there? 1 Quote
AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted Saturday at 06:41 PM Posted Saturday at 06:41 PM I generally like tribute bands. Some are really good and some are meh, but I’d check out a Cars tribute band 14 hours ago, US Egg said: Will Paulina Porizkova be there? Rick Ocasic really knocked it out of the park with her … like Lyle Lovett and Julia Roberts 2 Quote
US Egg Posted yesterday at 05:00 AM Posted yesterday at 05:00 AM I think playing sets of the best stuff from bands that have similar styles would draw a wider crowd. 1st set: all Cars 2nd set: all Cheap Trick 3rd set: all Police A killer combo be 1st set: all Depeche Mode 2nd set: all Bowie ……if you need a spoon player or wax paper comb musician, my cousin Virgil Lee Henry is the best. Let me know. Quote

I was in college when "Heaven Tonight" and the Cars 1st album came out and me and my roommates played them almost everyday. We saw Cheap Trick in December 1978 at the Stanley Theater in Utica. It was general admission so we got there 3 hours early to get great seats. When we got there, there was about 7 other people already there. One kid was dressed up just like Rick Nielson... baseball cap, red cardigan sweater buttoned up with a bunch of things pinned to it like buttons and other stuff, just like Rick used to wear back then. He even looked like Rick must have looked when he was 15. The door opened and Robin Zander and Bun E Carlos walked out. Robin went up to the kid dressed like Rick and said: "Hey, Rick, great to see you. You're lookin' great" and he shook his hand. We asked them for an autograph and they were both happy to give them. Bun E said: You guys are standing in this freezing cold to see us. We appreciate that. Then they walked to the McDonald's down the street. Edited 4 hours ago by Bills4everNY 2 Quote

That’s a great story, I can see Bun E Carlos sitting, eating at McD’s. Never saw them. They didn’t catch on with my circle back then, I think it had to do with Rick Nielsen and Bun E’s look, but, I too listened to that album a lot. 1 Quote

The other people there, unless they know Cheap Trick, would never in a million years think that he is a rock star. We have the same taste in music. The 3 albums you mentioned are in my all- time favorites. Cheap Trick’s "In Color" is an awesome album too, imo. I bought Cheap Trick’s first album but I didn't get into it like the other 2. The only song on it that I really love is "Oh, Candy." 1 Quote

First I heard ‘In Color’ was at my friends house where we parked for Bills games. His older brothers were biker types and always there with their pals, they apparently liked the album since they played it every game. The irony being Zander and Petersson on the album cover are sitting on Harleys, so maybe that was why they liked them? Being younger we didn’t say they weren’t cool, for obvious reasons. But that was when I started liking them. 1 Quote
