The counter argument to "liberal media"

TPS

Recommended Posts

While surveys of reporters indicate that most are socially liberal (and fiscally conservative), the liberal counter-argument has been that the media are, in the end, corporate-owned and controlled. This study indicates the US media are controlled by a very small group of individuals associated with some of the largest US corporations.

and the counter to your counter is that this very small group of individuals is only concerned with the bottom line and as long as their media outlets are turning a sizeable profit, they don't really care about the bias of their employees or accuracy of reporting

Which should decline over a period of time as viewers turn away from media outlets and toward the internet for the news. That'll cause the news outlets to work harder to turn a profit again.

It'll take years to get this cycle to that point, but I think it'll happen.

That may be true in most cases, but not in all...there is at least one on that list that is known to have an agenda, and is currently the most viewed source for televised news...fair and balanced as they may be...Rupert is not one who is going to change his tune if the political climate changes. But even he won't ever care about the accuracy of reporting! :)

Really? So large multi-national corporations would not have an interest in how the mass media portray (or don't) corporate scandals, the lack of critique of neoliberal economics, the civil justice system, etc.?

Please.
