Team Canada. Best Ever?

Ive watched all the international hockey tournament games involving Team Canada since the 72 series with Soviet Union. I honestly think that the team that is participating now in the World Cup of Hockey may be the best ever canadian team and quite possibly the best team ever assembled anywhere. From top to bottom the team speed is unbelievable. Last night Slovakia played a pretty good game in the first period. Trying to play the trap but they simply could not contain Canada for three periods. They were eventually overwhelmed by pure talent. Ive never seen a team so quick and that can play the transition game so well. The defense also looks solid despite missing, arguably, the two best dmen in the league in Jovanaski and Pronger. Anyway, just my thoughts. The American team is also finding thier legs and are becoming better and better every game I watch them. They have the heart and the talent to push Canada and quite possbile beat them in a one game elimination tourney like this is. In a 7 game series however I dont think they could handle them. I know football/Bill season is upon us so this post is out of place a bit but I think the two semi final games of this tournament(US Friday and Canada Saturday) might make for great pre Week 1 sports viewing!

Almost as boring as watching Bledsoe on his ass all season last year? Team Canada far more exciting that the Bills the last 5 years.

Well I think I am. I guess. What problem do you have with my response? Surely you cant argue the fact that the Bills have sucked the last 4 or 5 years? Don't get me wrong. Im a true Bills fan since the OJ days but I can't be a "hide my head in the sand" fanboy either and if they dont get some sort of respectable O-Line together, you can count on this season sucking ass as well.

I don't think its a matter of Canada being that good, but that so many NHL players take half the roster spots on the Euro teams. This makes it difficult for the Euros to play to their true style of play, half NHLers meshed with half Euro league players doesn't mix well. Back in the day when Euros didn't play in the NHL theri teams were that much better. Remember the Soviets and how great they were before players started fleeing for the NHL.

The reason that only half the euro teams are NHL'ers is because they are not good enough to be in it. All of the Team Canada players are in the NHL. Hence, they are better. The soviets had good teams because they kept the same players(their all stars) together all year. Canada slapped a all star team together in a couple weeks to play them and we still ended up beating them most of the time.

Ummmmm, hell no. First of all, I love hockey. However, it doesn't compare to the NFL. That being said, I'd take a Canadian team of Lemieux, Gretzky and Messier in their primes anyday over anything out there now!

As far as the NHL not comparing to the NFL I guess it all depends on what level you are talking about. As a sport and the people that play it? It far surpasses the NFL. As a promotional vehicle for advertisers and networks. Hell no. The NFL is a cash machine. Nothing wrong with that. Man they jam commercials in wherever possible and the atheletes themselves make it unwatchable sometimes. Now since im in a couple fantasy pools it makes the NFL interactive and as a result much more interesting for me. If not for that I would only watch the Bills game and turn the TV off. As for the NHL and hockey in general its not that way. I can watch jr games, NHL games or international matches no problem without having to have money on it or be involved in any way. To each his own
