This is a technology tht they are promoting as an innovation with regard to our movie watching experience at the theater. Some pretty big names are on board and supposedly this new 'polarizing' technology is amazing. In terms of why the walkie talkies, according to http://www.classicsondvd.com/et.htm Spielberg claims that the idea of the agents chasing the kids with guns bothered him but agree with the writer who quipped What I find absurd is the idea that federal agents would chase what they believe is a hostile life form with walkie-talkies.
