Blake Bortles: QB prospect watch

Watched the UCF vs Ball St. game and sophomore QB Blake Bortles really stood out. Good size at 6'4" 225 with room to grow and a live arm and great feet. Kid can really runs hard too, on one TD he plowed through two defenders and just kept driving till he powered his way into the Enzone. If we don't get a QB this year or one that needs competition Bortles could be one to keep an eye on next year.

"8.9. Average yards per carry for UCF quarterback Blake Bortles. As I said in the game preview, the UCF coaching staff puts a lot of trust in the sophomore, and the trust has paid off for the most part. Despite throwing a disproportionate amount of the time on passing downs, Bortles still completed 63 percent of his passes for the season (he was 22-for-33 for 272 yards and three touchdowns on Friday night [ plus one running]), but his ability to extend plays with his legs improved as the season progressed.

Bortles killed Ball State with two particular runs. On the third play of the game, UCF faced a third-and-12, and Ball State got decent pressure on Bortles. But he escaped the pocket, extended the play toward the sideline, then found a lane and burst forward for a 19-yard gain. UCF would go on to score on a grueling, seven-minute drive. Then, after Ball State had survived an early surge and cut UCF's lead to 13-7, he plowed into two Ball State tacklers at the goal line on third-and-goal from the 6, fell forward, and scored. If Ball State makes stops on these two plays, the game plays out in a completely different fashion. But they didn't."

He is a very good Qb. Have known him since he was 6yrs old. Am very good friends with his dad and have seen him play many times. Tough as nails and has a cannon for an arm. Extremely confident andcool under pressure. Is a gym rat and watches film all the time. Will be a good one and would be awesome to have him in our red white and blue!!

I can see what you are saying on the field.

Do you feel you may be biased being that close to him?

Not really because when he went there, there was another freshman qb they brought in and was pretty good but he kept saying he wasn't afreaid of the competition and that all he wanted was a fair shot. He was redshirted his first year and then last year replaced this guy at the end of year and now has taken over and improved each game forward! Also is a good and smart stdent!!

fair enough, can never have enough QBs ... wonder what I'm going to do when we actually get one, guess I'll start focusing on TEs of the future

Right on the money. Big strong mobile playmaker (Does that eliminate him right away?) Have to wait at least a year though. Maybe they'll give Tebow a spin for a year, or draft another stiff and we'll be ready for Bortles with the number one pick in 2014.

Manziel could be out then too, looks like we have to tank the next two years
