2004 and 2005 Draft - Losman / Rodgers

There are many "what if" scenerios and the true meaning of this post is not to beat a dead horse but to hopefully shed some light on the thought process currently at One Bills Drive. I am sure it has been posted 300 times, but I honestly dont recall this one. Maybe, hopefully, they dont want to make the mistake below twice.....

In 2004 Buffalo went into the draft with both WR and QB on their mind. Rumor has it that they were interested and made an attempt for Rothlesberger who was eventually taken 2 picks before Buffalo's pick of Lee Evans. For whatever reason it then seemed as if panic set in and Buffalo "needed" to get the #4 quarterback on the board even with Bledsoe slated to be the starter. They traded up with Dallas to #22 to select Losman. Many thought it was a "reach" and Loseman threw 5 passes all season.

Anyway, assuming we kept that pick and didnt trade up to select a little known, marginal, happy-footed QB....Aaron Rodgers would have been there for the picking in the 2005 draft at #20 which would have been Buffalo's pick. He was drafted by Green Bay at #24

Really nothing changed these circumstances other than the picks were swaped. SO, if Buffalo would have been patient we all could be watching Aaron Rodgers suit up every Sunday instead of the product they continue to put on the field.

I do hope that the lack of moves they have made at the QB postion is so they dont make the same mistake twice and are truely waiting for their man.

Good post! You've presented your case well. Any time you go into a draft thinking you have to address a certain position, you greatly increase your risk of getting a Losman or Whitner or McCargo. The key with the draft is not to force things, and above all to resist the temptation of convincing yourself that some player is the answer just because you'd love it if he was.

Heh.... or we could stick to the 2004 draft itself. Besides the rumors of trying to trade up for Roethlisberger. What if instead of panicking and sending Dallas picks to trade back into the 1st. We had still picked Lee Evans at 13, Dwan Edwards in the 2nd rd instead of Tim Anderson in the 3rd. and than had drafted Matt Schaub in the 3rd, giving us our franchise qb, and a good wr in the same year. What could've been
